This was stupid. But it was enjoyable.

I did watch it all but I’m fighting a cold.

This fifth instalment takes us back into the world of Captain Jack Sparrow and goes back to one of his earliest enemies, Captain Salazar, a dead type who wants revenge and has partnered with Captain Barbossa while the son of the cursed Will Turner and Carina Smyth, a women seeking her father, have enlisted Jack to find Poseidon’s Trident and the British are also in pursuit. Johnny Depp is back as Sparrow, Geoffrey Rush is back as Barbossa as are some of the original crew, though I did wonder how they all seem to not age. Javier Bardem is the dead, vengeful Salazar and he seems to enjoy himself. I don’t know the names of the young actors who play Henry Turner and Carina Smyth.

It was kind of bad but it was watchable bad. It had a lot of action and good F/X but it was lifeless and rather joyless as well. It was better than the last couple in this franchise, but the fun of the first is not here.

Watchable.
