Hay Quienes Creen en el Hilo Rojo pero Preferiría Pensar en el Entrelazamiento Cuántico
Some Believe in Red String but Would Rather Think of Quantum Entanglement
What's up people, I hope you are very well, this time I come with the review to a movie (although you already know what it is about by the title of the post) that I had not seen since its release in 2016 and it is not that I did not want to because I really wanted to see it, I just had not made the time to give it a chance. Your Name, the famous film by Makoto Shinkai, which managed to pass the anime and reach even those people who are not a big fan of anime and, now that I see it, I understand why. Below are a lot of spoilers so for those who haven't seen it, be warned.
As I always say, first things first, and the first thing is to know what Your Name is about. This story introduces us to two protagonists, Mitsuha, a teenager who hates her life in the village and Taki, a boy who lives in Tokyo and dreams of becoming an artist or architect. The lives of these two will be intertwined the night that two stars fall from the sky, giving them the small particularity of changing their bodies for a day, thus developing a strong longing to meet in person.
Your Name, WWWOOOOWWWW!!! The real question here is why I hadn't seen this before, I already knew more or less what the movie was about because I saw the trailer years ago when it was announced but I didn't see any significant spoilers until I came across a video on Tik Tok that referenced that maybe more than the red thread story how about seeing it as the theory of quantum entanglement. I know, I know, no need to look for the five legs to the cat but I read what that theory states and the truth is that I must admit, I was very convinced by the point of view of the person who uploaded that video to Tik Tok but more on that later.
Although I don't know much about the medium, directors, authors and everything else, I can say based on my experience that Makoto Shinkai is a genius creating these stories and making us suffer and die in them. I have only seen The Garden of Words (my favorite) and The Time With You, but those two are enough for me to know that this man has a lot to contribute to the industry, with Your Name it's even clearer.
As always, the story begins by introducing the characters and from the beginning warns us how the dynamics are going to be in this hour and fifty minutes of duration, spoiler: It's worth every minute. As the plot progresses we see how the protagonists get used to this exchange of bodies and how they look for ways to communicate with each other, what they don't know is that they will develop a strong longing to really know each other. I recently reviewed a very good movie about time travel, and when I saw Your Name I didn't expect it to also deal with time travel, but this time in a very interesting way.
The film was already earning a place for its beautiful animation and the story it was carrying, what can I say I'm a little weak to this kind of stories, but when little by little they introduce time travel or an allusion to that ended up hooking me even more. Makoto Shinkai is simply someone who knows how to do things, yes it's a little weird all that connecting with the past and being able to change the course of things by fate but he does it so well and accompanies it with an even better story that all it does is add a plus to everything and improve even more his final product leaving us thinking and with an expression of astonishment because yes, I was surprised by all that, the truth.
The development of the characters, to tell the truth, focused on the main characters, since the story is completely centered on them, let's say that it does not investigate much in the secondary characters such as Mitsuha's friends who have a little more participation than Taki's friends except for those who accompany him on his journey to Itomor but this does not become a point against completely since films like Caddo Lake or The Gorge do the same and it is very interesting.
Now, the theory of Quantum Entanglement explains that it is a phenomenon where two or more particles are connected in such a way that, no matter how far apart they are, whatever happens to one will directly affect the other. Now taking this to Your Name, it makes a lot of sense, because if the legend of the red thread that suggests that a thread connects two people who are destined to be together, as we see the movie that properly talks about threads but with the addition of the time factor, it becomes more “real” (speaking in terms of the movie) because these two, Mitsuha and Taki, are connected but in different times.
Ok, when I got to that part of the movie I was more amazed than in everything I had been watching, the way in which “fate” gives Mitsuha and Taki a second chance to meet each other is simply, apart from being emotional, very masterful. Being directly connected not only despite the distance but through time and influencing each other's lives leaves a great contribution to think about our relationships with our loved ones, without necessarily speaking from the romantic aspect.
Right in that part I remembered that theory and how no matter the overlap of the particle or its state, when they are intertwined, one will always directly affect the other. Without a doubt, Your Name, is a movie that not only takes you through an incredible journey of emotions while you are watching it but it leaves an incredible message about the importance of connections and really enjoying life and doing it in a fulfilling way.
I recommend watching it, and if you can enjoy it in company, believe me it will be well worth it. Perhaps many have already seen it, but I think there is also that small minority that has not had the opportunity to do so (like me until a few days ago). The movie has excellent characters, moments that will keep you on your toes about what is going to happen, a very very nice animation, something that Makoto Shinkai has us used to with his works and not to mention its ending. Everything is simply epic and with a lot of courage.
Thanks for taking your time to read, remember this is my opinion about Your Name, I would like to read what you think and we can exchange ideas about this amazing story. Until next time : )
