Through the amazing review on THRILLER by my friend @blackavalon, I remembered the movie community is currently hosting a Halloween contest for writers on the hive blockchain.
So I had to jump on it. My entry for the contest would be a review of a 2019 horror movie titled THE PRODIGY directed and written by Nicholas McCarthy and Jeff Buhler.
The prodigy tells the story of rebirth and reincarnation, a concept that I still find strange and intriguing. Do rebirth and reincarnation still work in this 21st century or is it one of those myths we have been told that's still yet to be proven? Well, this is actually what drew me closer to the movie and got all my attention. The screenwriting and storytelling involved in this movie didn't require a whole lot of characters but a few that played crucial roles and did an excellent job at it as well.
The movie revolves around the rebirth and reincarnation of Edward Scarka, a serial killer that was assassinated by the police after tracking his exact location. A suspense spice added to the storyline of this movie is while Edward Scarka was in his final moments of life, he experienced some deep knowledge which I like to call dark matter. This allowed him to be reincarnated into a newborn baby:s born, in the person of Jackson Robert Scott who plays the character of Miles, the possessed child. It will be so unfair if I didn't talk about how outstanding this young boy was in the movie.
To date, I'm still marveled at how a young boy of that age can put up a brilliant acting performance in a role that surely required him to display strong emotion not only with his spoken words but his gesture. Damn! I have to say it out loud, the boy gave me the creeps. After the birth of Miles, the young boy began to display some extreme genius attitude, like being able to speak before fully developing into a toddler, his quick understanding of things, and the weird one of them all speaking gibberish in his sleep.
This got his mother extremely worried and scared. At first, she felt he was a born genius but after encountering her child speaking some kind of language that she probably hasn't heard before, in his sleep. She knew it was time to seek help. She contacted her psychiatrist who referred her to another psychiatrist named Arthur, who specializes in rebirth and reincarnation. Through the involvement of Arthur, ther was able to find out that the body of her child was possessed by the serial killer, Edward Scarka, who came back to carry out his revenge on Margaret, one of the victims that escape and wrote a book about him and also helped the police to track him down.
Throughout the whole journey of discovering what's going on with her son, Sarah Blume begins to realize that the injury on Mile's babysitter, the attack on his classmate, and the death of their dog wasn't all a matter of an accident but an evil act orchestrated by the spirit in Miles' body. I will add that the tough scare that hit Sarah Blume was when she discovered the transcription of the gibberish expression Miles has been altering in his sleep, which means
I will cut your eye open and watch you die, whore.
In an advert to provide a solution and get her child back, Sarah takes matters into her hand and does something drastic but I will leave it to you to find out when you watch the movie.
Hope you enjoy it guys, it's a must-watch for Halloween.
