The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (6.5/10)
The story from what I can remember is pretty basic again and more than anything serves the purpose of pumping out as much mario references as possible during the course of the movie. Bowser as far as I can remember was shrunk and captured by Mario and Luigi living in a miniature castle inside the castle of Peach. It gets pulled out of the ground by the son of Bowser who is building some kind of death star planet.
Image SourceMario gets pulled along into space and somehow lands on the space ship of Princess Rosalina who somehow is the sister of Peach was also affected by Bowser Jr, and they go on the quest to get the catle back.
Image SourcePretty much everything in the movie and the Mario Games is in function of bringing the next gimmick, characters, or references. In the case of Super Mario Galaxy this was Princes Rosalina and the cute lumas who as small star like creatures.
Image SourceThe movie pretty much is a rollercoaster ride on once nicely animated scene to another pumping out mario references and different characters from withing the games as there is no tomorrow. I would say it is recommended to have played the Super Mario Galaxy game recently to more enjoy this movie as the overall story was pretty lacking.
Image SourceThe movie also had many references of different Mario games and like the 1st movie which had Donkey Kong as one of the cameo characters, this one had Fox Mcloud from the starfox game. The main purpose though was because a remake of one of those games was released a bit after the movie got in theater.
Conclusion Well, what to say about this movie aside that it mostly is filled with very nice animation and a ton of mario references which made me go 'oh there is that' all the time which kind of was needed to enjoy it as the story ifself was pretty non-existant. So because I put myself in the position to enjoy it the most as I just played the Super Mario Galaxy game I still score it a 6.5/10 but otherwise it is totally skippable unless you watch it with your kids or so who also played the mario games.
