Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller (oggi vi parlo di Vikings Valhalla), il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org. Si torna nei paesi nordici e si torna dai vichingi oggi. Nostalgici di Vikings accorrete dunque per questa preview
Se avete sottoscritto un abbonamento a Netflix avrete sicuramente già divorato la prima stagione di Vikings - Valhalla, serie sequel della più famosa ed iconica Vikings, ideata e sceneggiata da Michael Hirst qualche anno fa su History Channel e conclusasi poco più di un anno fa con una buon epilogo che ho provato a raccontarvi in questo post. Ebbene quest'anno c'era molta attesa per questo ritorno sotto mentite spoglie della saga di Ragnar Lothbrok e la sua prole. Come sarà andata? Come sarà stato? Che sensazioni avrà lasciato? Scopriamolo insieme senza andare mai troppo nel dettaglio.
Siamo nell'epoca di tante cose ma se c'è un trend seriale che sta spopolando è quello legato alle serie prequel e quelle sequel di grandi successi contemporanei. Il più celebre (e riuscito) è sicuramente Better Call Saul (qui trovate una mia analisi sullo show di Vince Gilligan), serie prequel di Breaking Bad che è riuscita a mantenere intatta l'anima della serie madre ma senza togliere nulla alla "nuova serie", alle nuove storie ed ai nuovi (e vecchi) personaggi. E vale la pena anche citare The Good Fight, serie sequel di The Good Wife che, pur restando ancorata alla serie madre, è riuscita ad emergere prepotentemente come una delle migliori serie degli ultimi anni (qui trovate una mia recente recensione). Ho voluto citare questi 2 show poichè, a mio avviso, rappresentano il meglio che uno spinoff possa regalarci, ovvero novità e freschezza all'interno di un universo noto e con precise caratteristiche tecniche, narrative e stilistiche. Nel parlarvi di loro riesco meglio a farvi capire il mio giudizio complessivo su questo Vikings:Valhalla. Buona/ottima serie di cui non si sentiva assolutamente il bisogno. E' possibile? Si, lo è ed il motivo è proprio nascosto tra le righe precedenti. Lo show di Netflix affonda pienamente le radici nella serie madre. E' ambientato 100 anni dopo e sin dal primo istante gli autori vogliono fortemente ricordarci che la serie che ci accingiamo a guardare è una serie tratta dall'epica di Vikings. Ci ricordano di Ragnar e delle gesta dei suoi figli, ci ricordano dove i vichingi avevano messo radici e dove (e quando) il racconto inizierà. E' un chiaro manifesto d'intenti ma soprattutto una strizzatina d'occhio palesissima verso i fan della serie madre. Nulla di male se non fosse che ogni scena sembra una scena di Vikings. Nuovi personaggi, nuove avventure, nuove battaglie, nuove diatribe eppure sembra di guardare una stagione di Vikings in cui la famiglia Lothbrok aveva deciso di andare in vacanza alle Maldive, per poi ritornare alla stagione successiva. E la domanda che mi sovviene è la seguente: che bisogno c'era?

As usual, today I bring you a new Preview of an article that in a few days or weeks you will see in the Mind of a SerialFiller (today I'm talking about Vikings Valhalla), my blog entirely focused on the world of TV series and of which, for some months now, I have decided to give you constantly, in advance of what I will publish, most of the posts you will see on www.serialfiller.org. It's back to the Nordic countries and back to the Vikings today. Vikings nostalgic, so hurry up and watch this preview.
If you have a subscription to Netflix you will surely have already devoured the first season of Vikings - Valhalla, sequel series to the more famous and iconic Vikings, created and written by Michael Hirst a few years ago on the History Channel and ended just over a year ago with a good epilogue that I tried to tell you in this post. Well this year there was much anticipation for this return in disguise of the saga of Ragnar Lothbrok and his offspring. How will it have been? How will it have been? What feelings will it have left? Let's find out together without going into too much detail.
We are in the era of many things, but if there is a serial trend that is depopulating is the one related to prequel series and those sequels of great contemporary successes. The most famous (and successful) is certainly Better Call Saul (here is my analysis of the show by Vince Gilligan), prequel series to Breaking Bad that has managed to keep intact the soul of the mother series but without taking anything away from the "new series", the new stories and new (and old) characters. And it's also worth mentioning The Good Fight, sequel series to The Good Wife that, while remaining anchored to the parent series, has managed to emerge strongly as one of the best series of recent years (here is my recent review). I wanted to mention these two shows because, in my opinion, they represent the best that a spinoff can give us, or novelty and freshness within a known universe and with precise technical, narrative and stylistic characteristics. In telling you about them I can better make you understand my overall opinion about this Vikings:Valhalla. Good / excellent series that was absolutely not felt the need. Is that possible? Yes, it is and the reason is right hidden between the lines above. The Netflix show is fully rooted in the parent series. It's set 100 years later and from the very first moment, the writers strongly want to remind us that the series we're about to watch is a series based on the epic Vikings. They remind us of Ragnar and the exploits of his sons, they remind us where the Vikings had taken root and where (and when) the story will begin. It's a clear manifesto of intent but above all a wink to the fans of the mother series. Nothing wrong if it were not that every scene looks like a scene from Vikings. New characters, new adventures, new battles, new diatribes and yet it seems to watch a season of Vikings in which the Lothbrok family had decided to go on vacation to the Maldives, only to return the following season. And the question that comes to mind is this: what was the need?
