Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.
L'arte è anche fatta di fallimenti?
Vi pregiate di essere degli "intenditori"?
Adorate Nicholas Winding Refn?
Un paio di anni fa, Amazon Prime Video ebbe la brillante idea di affidare un progetto seriale a Nicholas Winding Refn. Per chi non lo conoscesse, Nicholas Winding Refn è un cineasta danese che in molti, forse esagerando, hanno da tempo definito il Quentin Tarantino europeo. Il regista è stato l'artefice di gioeilli come Solo Dio Perdona, Neon Demon e Drive ma non è esattamente il regista più conosciuto del globo. Resta un regista abbastanza di nicchia. L'operazione di affidare a lui una serie tv era, dunque, molto ambiziosa e rischiosa e va dato merito a Bezos e soci di averci fatto un pensierino. Bravi. Da quella idea nacque Too Old Too Die Young (che già nel titolo racchiude un qualcosa, a mio avviso, di potentissimo ed elegante), serie tv che fu cancellata dopo una sola stagione, complice uno scarso successo di pubblico ed una critica che apprezzò senza, tuttavia, esaltare granchè quel prodotto. Oggi voglio riesumarla e lo voglio fare solo per coloro i quali cercano davvero l'arte in ogni sequenza, che mettono da parte clichè e cose facilissime e mirano a trovare la bellezza nella fotografia, nei colori, nell'eleganza delle singole scene partorite da questo genio tutto europeo.
Nella comprensione di Too Old Too Die Young è da qui che bisogna partire. Da lui. Winding Refn è il modello dell'artista controverso, dell'artista che non si culla sugli allori, che non cerca di ripetere costantemente il suo stesso stile (già di per se eccezionale) ma di rendere quel suo stile sempre nuovo, sempre possibilmente migliore.

Do you adore Nicholas Winding Refn?
A couple of years ago, Amazon Prime Video had the brilliant idea to entrust a serial project to Nicholas Winding Refn. For those who don't know him, Nicholas Winding Refn is a Danish filmmaker that many, perhaps exaggerating, have long defined as the European Quentin Tarantino. The director has been the creator of such gems as Only God Forgives, Neon Demon and Drive but he is not exactly the most well-known director on the globe. He remains a fairly niche director. The operation of entrusting a TV series to him was, therefore, very ambitious and risky and credit must be given to Bezos and associates for having thought about it. Bravo. From that idea was born Too Old Too Die Young (which already in the title contains something, in my opinion, very powerful and elegant), a TV series that was cancelled after only one season, due to a poor success with the public and a criticism that appreciated without, however, exalting much that product. Today I want to revive it and I want to do it only for those who really look for art in every sequence, who put aside clichés and easy things and aim to find beauty in photography, in colors, in the elegance of the single scenes created by this all-European genius.
In understanding Too Old Too Die Young it is from here that one must start. From him. Winding Refn is the model of the controversial artist, of the artist who does not rest on his laurels, who does not try to constantly repeat his own style (already exceptional in itself) but to make his style always new, always possibly better.
