Chronology : Saw Movies (2017)

You remember with Saw movies? Well, maybe not with the unyielding mythology, but I'm sure, when you hear the question, you'll immediately see the blood, torture tools, and silly-but-terrible stuff called Jigsaw riding a mini-tricycle. His new film, simply titled Jigsaw , will appear in Indonesia on November 8th. Uncensored.

Mm-hmm. I did not expect it either. Such movies are usually very difficult to pass the LSF sensor (for obvious reasons). According to news from one of the top forums of the homeland, only Saw III and Saw V have ever aired in local theaters. Jigsaw is an exciting news, maybe?

Welcoming that, I intend to refresh our memory of his franchise which has so far released seven films annually without interruption since 2004. Initially I planned to compile a list of Saw movie ranks from the worst to the best.

But we all know that there is only one good Saw movie, while the rest, uhm, just to quench our thirst for bloody sequences (even the creator, James Wan will not go back to the director's seat for the sequels). It will not be an interesting list. So I think it would be more beneficial if we break the revelation of events in Saw . Calculate so that later not so much confused while watching Jigsaw .

You need not be discouraged. Naturally if confused with the story of Saw , let alone the plot is complicated because it involves continued events, parallel, flashback , or all three at once. I am sometimes confused myself. The mythology is increasingly complicated every new movie is released, because the script writer must think hard to find a way to dilate the story considering the original character Jigsaw himself who died in Saw III . Spoiler? Yes, this list will not hesitate with spoilers, so prepare yourself.

For this list, I watched all the Saw movies, checked their plot points on IMDb / Wikipedia, then spent no more than two hours to compile them. The reason is for you, but mostly because I have a lot of idle time anyway. In sequence, the franchise starts with Saw and is followed by a sequel with ((creative)) titled Saw II , Saw III, Saw IV , Saw V, Saw VI , and Saw 3D: The Final Chapter . True, initially Saw 3D was planned as the last movie, but as we know, Hollywood does not know the word "last" while its brand can still be sold.

The basic plot in all movies is actually similar. People wake up in a deadly trap, then a mysterious voice that forces them into a game that will determine whether they will die or not. But most die anyway. The culprit is John Kramer or later known as the "Jigsaw Killer". I will leave a subplot of corrupt police, cruel insurance agents, freak writers, etc. who become "spices" in every Saw movie and will only focus on chronological stories that connect with its grand design franchise.

In the first Saw , we are introduced to Amanda , a survivor of Jigsaw survivors. Then we were taken to a bathroom where Jigsaw locked a doctor named Dr. Gordon with Adam who was a photographer. Gordon was ordered to kill Adam, otherwise his wife and son would be killed.

The origin story of Jigsaw's own character is in Saw IV . John was once a successful engineer whose home was destroyed after his wife Jill miscarried over a drug addict named Cecil. When John was diagnosed with a deadly cancer by Dr. Gordon (from the first film), he saw how many mischievous people wasted their lives.

John attempted suicide ( flashback from Saw II ), but survived and finally realized the meaning of haqiqi from life. Then, it was born "Jigsaw Killer", the killer who designed the latest and characteristic slaughter scenario where always take the puzzle- shaped meat from the victim. His first victim, of course, was Cecil.

Amanda, who thought Jigsaw had changed her life for the better, finally enrolled as John's disciple. When John gets weaker because of his cancer in Saw II , it was Amanda who designed most of the games in an empty house. One of the eight victims of Saw II is Detective Eric. At the end of the film, Eric almost caught John, but was prevented by Amanda who locked him in the bathroom in the background of the first film.

In Saw III , Amanda began to take a turn. He designed a game that the victim could not win, in contrast to John's design that still had little chance to be conquered. Therefore, John tested Amanda with a trick game. Amanda failed so that she and John died.

Who would have thought that John had one more senior student than Amanda. To design the game in the first Saw , he got help from Detective Hoffman . In Saw V it is told that Hoffman murdered his brother's killer and then manipulated it as if it looked like a Jigsaw deed. In return, John traps Hoffman and then brainwashes him to become Jigsaw's successor.

In Saw IV , a game involving police investigating John and Jill, was designed by Hoffman. This event coincided with the events in Saw III . One victim who also co-Hoffman survived. But Hoffman managed to silence him in Saw V. He later became the successor of Jigsaw. Or so he thought.

Hoffman finds that John and Amanda are dead at the end of Saw IV . During the autopsy, John found a tape reminiscent of Hoffman that he would be tested. In Saw VI , Jill (John's wife, if you still remember) sent a box to Hoffman containing instructions on the next game. Some of the police who thought Hoffman was killed in Saw IV , were still alive and are now investigating.

After clearing it all up, Hoffman returns just to find that Jill is mandated by John to trap him. However, Hoffman managed to escape from the game of death.

Saw 3D became a battle ground for the Jigsaw brand between Hoffman and Jill. Jill reveals Hoffman's secret to the police, while Hoffman makes plans to infiltrate the police station to kill Jill. Hoffman succeeded. But when it will run away, he is captured by ... Dr. Gordon!

Apparently, post-free from the first film, Gordon also became a student of John. He has been helping John design some games unnoticed by Hoffman and Amanda. In the flashback it is shown that Gordon got a testament from John to act if something happened to Jill. Gordon then trap Hoffman in a game similar to the first movie! Hoffman was stuck in the bathroom, given a rusted saw, and locked up to die there. Maybe dead, maybe not.

In short: the filmmaker cares about demons with logical reason or logic plots. Stories can refer to and evolve everywhere as long as it gives a twist of a nelect. So, we do not have to bother to guess which direction will be directed by Jigsaw film that takes the time back 11 years after John's death later.
