The movie is about the youngest daughter of king Triton, ruler of the merpeople of the Atlantic. She is fascinated with the human world despite never having seen it, as the king forbids all merfolk from surfacing there after a human killed her mother.
It all starts One night, She sees fireworks above the ocean and surfaces to see them better. They come from the ship of the prince of a nearby island.
When a storm arrives, the ship crashes against rocks, forcing all to go for the lifeboats. She rescues the prince and brings him to shore and sings with her siren voice to help save his life, and flees before he can regain full consciousness.
After noticing her absent-minded behavior, the king questions his advisor, who reveals that she saved a human. Outraged, he travels to her grotto to confront her.
Meanwhile, she refuses to swear to never return to the surface, he destroys her collection of human objects. She’s later approached by two moray eels sent by the sea witch. The king estranged sister and her aunt, who was banished from the Atlantic 15 years prior.
Furthermore, She went to see the sea witch, and she presented her a deal that she's going to give her human legs for three days, but she must receive a true love kiss to keep the leg permanently.
She was curious about what’s on the other side, she’s ready to do anything to achieve that, in the process, she sacrifices her ability to breathe underwater and her siren voice which the witch will keep in a nautilus shell.
After she accepted the deal, she was given human legs and was taken to the surface by the witch servant, she was recused by the people around taken to the prince's castles.
Meanwhile, the prince has been searching for the woman who saved his life rushes to meet her, however her lack of voice has him immediately turning away.
The prince sightseeing her around the kingdom, when her servant who has followed her realizes that the witch has put a cheat in the spell that is causing her to forget that she needs to kiss the prince.
