Hello to all my dear cinephile friends! It's been more days than I would have liked to be back, but here I am. Today I come with a review of a movie that I watched recently and that I got thanks to the Just Watch app. I talked about it in a post I made a few months ago, you can access it at Link. I don't remember what I was looking for in the app, what I do remember is that movies similar to the one I had chosen came up, and among many I had already seen was this one. Seeing that it was a romantic comedy with a very good score, I decided to give it a try.

¡Hola a todos mis queridos amigos cinéfilos! Han pasado más días de lo que habría querido para volver, pero aquí estoy. Hoy vengo con una reseña de una película que me ví hace poco y que conseguí gracias a la aplicación Just Watch (hablé de ella en una publicación que hice hace unos meses, pueden acceder a ella en el Link). No recuerdo que buscaba en la aplicación, lo que sí es que me aparecieron películas similares a esa que había escogido, y entre muchas que ya había visto estaba esta y al ver que se trataba de una comedia romántica con muy buena puntuación, decidí darle una oportunidad.
The movie hooked me from the very first moment. It has an interesting premise: it's like Groundhog Day, the Harold Ramis movie that starred Bill Murray and Andy McDowell. If you haven't seen the classic 90s movie, you should check it out. In both films, the same day repeats itself forever. The difference with Palm Spring is that the movie, which takes place in the middle of the desert where there is a wedding, begins. This gives the impression that Nyles, (starring Andy Samberg) has already spent many times the same day. For several things that happen in the first few minutes and for all that carefree tone that has the protagonist. And we find out why he's trying to woo Sarah (Cristin Milioti), the bride's sister in front of everyone, including his own bride who is a bridesmaid (Nyles is his +1).
Things get interesting when someone appears out of nowhere, painted all in black and with a bow, and shoots an arrow at Nyles while he is alone with Sarah. He starts running and hiding from the new character, who is obviously the villain. Nyles heads towards a cave, which is obviously the place where everything happens, enters there and disappears, but Sarah chases him and also enters the same place. Sarah has just entered the Loop.

La película me enganchó desde el primer momento. Tiene una interesante premisa: es como El día de la marmota, la película de Harold Ramis que estuvo protagonizada por Bill Murray y Andy McDowell. Si no han visto la clásica película de los 90, deberían verla. En ambas películas, el mismo día se repite por siempre. La diferencia con Palm Spring es que la película, que tiene lugar en un paraje en el medio del desierto en el que hay una boda, empieza y da la impresión de que Nyles, (protagonizado por Andy Samberg) ya ha pasado muchas veces el mismo día por varias cosas que ocurren en los primeros minutos y por todo ese tono despreocupado que tiene el protagonista. Y nos damos cuenta por qué está intentando cortejar a Sarah (Cristin Milioti), la hermana de la novia frente a todo el mundo, incluyendo a su propia novia que es dama de honor (Nyles es su +1).
La situación se pone interesante cuando aparece alguien de la nada, pintado todo de negro y con un arco, y le dispara una flecha a Nyles mientras está a solas con Sarah y empieza a correr y a ocultarse del nuevo personaje, que obviamente es el villano. Nyles se dirige hacia una cueva, que, obviamente, es el lugar por el que pasa todo, entra allí y se desaparece, pero Sarah lo persigue y también entra en el mismo sitio. Sarah acaba de entrar en el Loop.
I like how the movie starts because there are already many movies with the theme of the loop of the day. But the fact that it started as a situation that has been going on for a while and that they included someone new to the loop, is something different and gives a new sense to this kind of story. Personally, I love everything that has a theme of time jumps, loops, ellipses, and time travelers. Besides the one I already mentioned, there are movies like About Time, which is a real beauty, and Dark, which is a mind-blowing TV Show, that I started watching just for the theme. So just by reading the synopsis of Palm Springs, I already knew I would be glued.
This movie is a romantic and fantasy comedy, and when we read that those are the genres we could imagine anything, but we have to remember that we have an incredibly funny protagonist with some pretty racy jokes. I already knew the actress from How To Meet Your Mother, in which she didn't shine as much as she did in this film. I thought she was very funny and an excellent actress.
Now let's think, Nyles has an eternity stuck in the loop, and next to him is his enemy: Roy, who is played by none other than the incredible J.K. Simmons (Whiplash). Now, Sarah, is not exactly very happy about waking up every day on the worst day of her life: the marriage of her younger half-sister, along with family and some friends. So she looks for all the ways to get out of the loop (some very funny). But in the meantime, she starts living with Nyles because she has no choice.

Me gusta como inicia la película porque ya hay muchas películas con el tema del loop del día, pero que haya empezado como una situación que tiene tiempo pasando y que incluyan a alguien nuevo al loop, es una algo diferente y le da un nuevo sentido a este tipo de historias. Personalmente, me encanta todo lo que tenga tema de saltos en el tiempo, loops, elipsis, y viajeros del tiempo, además de la que ya nombré, hay películas como About Time, que es una real belleza, y Dark, que es un TV Show alucinante, que empecé a ver solo por la temática. Así que solo con leer la sinopsis de Palm Springs, ya sabía que estaría pegada.
Esta película es una comedia romántica y de fantasía, y cuando leemos que esos son los géneros podríamos imaginarnos cualquier cosa, pero debemos recordar que tenemos a un protagonista increíblemente gracioso y con algunos chistes bastante picantes. A la actriz ya la conocía por How To Meet Your Mother, en la que no brilló tanto como lo hizo en esta película. Me pareció muy graciosa y una excelente actriz.
Ahora pensemos, Nyles tiene una eternidad atrapada en el loop, y junto a él está su enemigo: Roy, que está encarnado por nada más y nada menos que el increíble J.K. Simmons (Whiplash). Ahora Sarah, no está precisamente muy feliz por amanecer cada día en el peor día de su vida: el matrimonio de su medio hermana menor, junto a familiares y algunos amigos. Así que busca todas las maneras de salir del loop (algunas muy graciosas). Pero mientras tanto, empieza a convivir con Nyles porque no le queda más remedio.

I quite enjoyed the movie, because it talks about changes and who we are if we submit to a single day of our lives for the rest of our lives. On whether we will change who we are or if we will just leave our life like that, unchanged, without changing our mentality, our life and how we relate to the people around us.
It is not a very deep movie, but it leaves us with a great learning experience. What it left me with was a big doubt, and I would like you to answer the question: If you lived the same day for an eternity, what would you do? I have been thinking about it and I would do three things that I never have time for: I would watch all the movies and TV shows I can, I would read all the books I can, and I would study everything I can. That way, if I ever got out of the loop, I would have a lot of new things in my head and a lot more time to enjoy life.

Me disfruté bastante de la película, porque habla de los cambios y de quienes somos si nos sometemos a un solo día de nuestras vidas por el resto de nuestras vidas. En sí cambiaremos quiénes somos o si, simplemente dejaremos nuestra vida así, sin cambios, sin cambiar nuestra mentalidad, nuestra vida y como nos relacionamos con las personas que nos rodean.
No es una película muy profunda, pero nos deja un gran aprendizaje. A mí lo que me dejó fue una gran duda y me gustaría que me respondieran la pregunta: Si vivieran el mismo día durante una eternidad, ¿Qué harían? Yo me lo he estado pensando y haría tres cosas para lo que nunca tengo tiempo: vería todas las películas y Tv Shows que pueda, me leería todos los libros que pueda y estudiaría todo lo que pudiera. Así, si algún día saliera del loop, tendría muchas cosas nuevas en mi cabeza y mucho tiempo más para disfrutar la vida.
Espero que hayan disfrutado de esta pequeña reseña. Si quieren ver la película, que les recomiendo muchísimo, se van a reír bastante, es una hermosura de comedia y se merece todas las puntuaciones que merece. La pueden conseguir en Star+.
