The reviews I write are of films I watched quite a while ago; as I have a long list, I start with the oldest ones and, sometimes, I forget what they’re about, but when a film is good or makes an impression on me, just seeing a few stills from the scenes is enough for me to remember the story. That’s what happened to me with ‘Who Am I?’, a German thriller about hackers from 2014 – quite an old one. 😆

Las reseñas que escribo son de películas que he visto hace bastante tiempo, como tengo una lista larga comienzo por las más antiguas y a veces se me olvida de qué tratan, pero cuando la película es buena o me impresiona con solo ver algunas fotos de las escenas recuerdo su historia, así me pasó con Who Am I qué es un thriller alemán de hackers del año 2014, bastante viejita. 😆

Es la historia de Benjamin un joven genio de la informática solitario y tímido que conoce a otro hacker que es extrovertido, divertido y carismático, se hacen amigos y comienzan hacer locuras con sus conocimientos y su grupo, buscaban llamar la atención con bromas informáticas hackeando medios de comunicación y grandes empresas volviéndose un fenómeno viral.

Se meten en problemas al introducirse en organismo público e intercambiar información con otro grupo de hackers los malos, el detalle es que Benjamín estaba en el grupo de los buenos.

Toda la película es narrada a través de Benjamín que está detenido y siendo interrogado, pero él es astuto y fingió ser la víctima cuando en realidad es la mente maestra.

Durante toda esta película se sintió el thriller, un suspenso que iba creciendo y se mostraron escenas de cómo sería un crimen virtual, es una historia con un ritmo rápido que a veces te deja pensando en lo que acabas de ver perdiendo lo que está pasando, yo tuve que darle pausa y retroceso a varias escenas, unas porque no entendía lo que pasaba y otras veces porque me gustaba tanto lo que veía que quería repetirlo.

Esta película es para los amantes de la tecnología, los crímenes de grupos rebeldes y los que les gusta el suspenso, recibió una buena calificación de los críticos, si te la encuentras dale una oportunidad.

It’s the story of Benjamin, a young computer genius – solitary and shy – who meets another hacker who is outgoing, funny and charismatic; they become friends and start getting up to all sorts of mischief using their skills and their group, seeking to attract attention with cyber pranks, hacking media organisations and large companies, until they become a viral sensation.

They get into trouble when they break into a public body and exchange information with another group of hackers – the bad guys; the catch is that Benjamin was actually on the side of the good guys.

The whole film is narrated through Benjamin’s perspective, as he is in custody and being interrogated, but he’s cunning and pretends to be the victim when, in reality, he’s the mastermind behind it all.

Throughout the film, there’s a distinct thriller atmosphere, with mounting suspense and scenes depicting what a cybercrime might look like; it’s a fast-paced story that, at times, leaves you pondering what you’ve just seen and makes you lose track of what’s happening; I had to pause and rewind several scenes – some because I didn’t understand what was happening, and others because I liked what I was seeing so much that I wanted to watch it again.

This film is for lovers of technology, crimes committed by rebel groups, and fans of suspense; it has received good reviews, so if you come across it, give it a go.
