Hello People! I was in no mood to write anything today, although I have been addicted to the routine of writing for some time, and then there are just two days left for tax file return. My procrastination will result in heavy loss, one day. But hey as soon as I read: New York Times forgot "Dark". I changed my mind. Like seriously? Such injustice? I do not even care about the criteria, no "Dark" simply means opinion rejected.
Breaking Bad tops the list for: The New York Times 2025 list of the 100 best TV shows of the 21st century.
The only acceptable justification here is - Dark being outside this timeline.
And for me, Dark is easily top-three, no anime in that list. One final quote, before I start formal reviewing: "What we know is a drop, what we don't know is an ocean." - Bernd Doppler, Dark. And sorry NYT you do not even know the "drop."
The Plot; The Analysis.
The story begins in the small town of Germany named Winden. A child named Mikkel Nielsen is mysteriously missing. And at first it does look like a horror series. Almost four to six episodes just give these creepy vibes. The cinematics and coloring plays a great role in portraying this. Then the trees and all that stuff such as cave, nuclear power plant, strange disappearances. And that creepy cave turns out to be Doraemon's time-machine. Just kidding, that cave is somehow - human intelligence - connected to different points in time.
One point of yapping before I continue forward: I watched the show in 2019, and at first, it felt like "IT (2017)." Funny enough I loved both, the movie and the show. Back to the review.
As I said "different points in time." The story moves between 1953, 1986, 2019, 2020, then back in 1921, forward to 2053, and many other time periods. Mind you, this is not a time-travelling series. The characters lives are connected across generations, and events in one time period affect events in another.
Let me break down that for you, because back in time when series came, it really blow of everyone's mind. And the reason is: Mikkel becomes Michael and fathers Jonas (the protagonist); Jonas fallns in love with his aunt Martha; Jonas and Martha's son becomes an ancestor of Mikkel; and Charlotte is both Elisabeth's mother and daughter. COMPLICATED! Simply put, these events are not merely affecting periods rather causing those events.
The biggest question after all this is: can anyone actually change all this from happening?
The series is so addictive that it keeps us hooked from start to the end. Time, itself, becomes another character. People literally starts to meet younger or older versions of themselves. And past, present, future turns out to be different rooms of the same house.
And by the time, you think you have understood it, the alarm goes off. This is the beauty of the show.
I would not like to spoil the ending for you guys, if you have not watched it, you really should.
Series so good that the plot itself is the analysis.
The Characters.
Usually I skip this part, but not for this one.
Jonas is the protagonis. He begins as a troubled teenager, of course he is dealing with father's death. But the thing is, his curious nature, and the urge for the answer eventually pulls him into Winden's strange relationship with time. As the story moves forward, Jonas is just trapped in the cycle he is trying to solve.
"You and I are perfect for each other. Never believe anything else." - Jonas.
Words so powerful, I never forgot
And then there is Martha, she is gorgeous and Jonas's love interest. One of the most important characters in the story. She belongs to Nielsen family, which is deeply connected to Winden's time travel mystery. And she is the Eva of alternate reality. Just like Jonas being the Adam.
Claudia is one of the smartest and most loveable characters in the series. She has her own aura. She gradually discovers how Winden's timeline works and spends years trying to understand and ultimately break the cycle.
And importantly, Noah who initially appears to be one of the show's major antagonists, but this show has no thing as hero and villain. And the quotes this guy give away, just wow!
The Conclusion.
Bit amiguous and absurd ending from my side. But this is it, dear humans. I get it dark is confusing, complicated, and demands a proof of brain. Also I totally get it from the judges from not getting it; not everyone can understand the worth of a diamond.
Believe me or not, this is a once in a life-time thing. And remember:
"The end is the beginning, and the beginning is the end."

No offense to any other show, and same goes for NYT. Everyone has their own criteria and liking. But Dark, that too Netflix original, come on guys...
