In season 1, Joe Goldberg has loved Beck, but it did not turn out well for both of them. Personally, the fault lies with both, but in the end, Joe takes the lead and succeeds in killing her.
Introduction
Our protagonist - Joe Goldberg - has escaped from his henious act of killing Beck. Now, he has a new name: Will Bettleheim. He has also moved to Los Angeles. And just like any other good man, he tells himself of starting a new journey - a positive and moral one. He will stop being the obsessive type, and of course, murdering someone is a thing of the past for him.
A fresh start? It means a new job. He is not a book shop owner anymore. Now this handsome man works at a grocery store of good class. The store is owned by the "Quinn Family."
Sounds like a normal new start. But wait, it does not take much for the twist to breakout. Our hero is back again. At the grocery store, he meets "Love Quinn." No offense to any other actress, but she is my favorite from all 5 season.
At first, Joe tries his so-called best to avoid falling in love with Love. But Love is the kind of woman to make anyone fall in love with her. And our boy is also looking for the same kind of love. So, Joe has fallen for her. As he believes, she sees the "good" in him.
With that, one can see a difference, a change actually, in Joe's tone. Rather than thinking of himself as the saviour, as was the case in Season 1. He wants to be saved.
Maybe Beck was the mistake. Maybe this woman is different. Maybe I can be different with her.
The story unfolds
But as they say: old habits die hard. Joe finds someone to protect, and that is his teenage neighbor - Ellie Alves. And as we move forward, Joe starts to feel the same with Love. He starts to think himself as a protector for Love Quinn as well. And just like a good man, he convinces himself that stalking her, lying her is an act of love. With our protagonist back with his doing, everything starts to feel the same as it was in Season 1.
So here is the TWIST
Love has been manipulating Joe since the beginning. Manipulating? Yes. She already knew who Joe was and delibaretely drew him toward herself.
Wait, this is not all. It was just a twist; the bigger TWIST is here. Love Quinn kills "Delilah." Delilah is Ellie's older sister, and an investigative journalist. And Joe has some sort of affection toward her.
This is where Joe discovers that this is not Love's first murder. As a children, when Love found out that a woman had abused Forty (Love's druggish brother.) She killed her, and then manipulated the situation. The blame was placed on Forty Quinn.
Like Husband Like Wife
A couple made for eachother, isn't it? Joe has realised that Love is not just an innocent girlfriend. She is more than that. She is actually the female version of Joe Goldberg. As Love herself says:
“We're dangerously alike. It’s like looking in a mirror.”
By the end of Season 2. Joe is ready to kill Love Quinn, but she reveals that she is pregnant. So, Joe falls in love again with Love. Love, once again, frames Forty for Delilah's murder. And both - the couple made in heaven - starts living into a suburban house. This is where Joe finds another obsession; and the cycle for the third Season begins.
And that my friend is some other day story.
For me Season 2 is way better than Season 1. Of course, Season 1 has its own charm, as it was the beginning of something new. Still, Season 2 has more characters and depth. The best things about this season are the twists. The story does not follow a straight line rather it changes horizontally. Joe is not the only one obsessed here; now Joe is getting the same treatment back.
