Emotional bonds are always complicated at all stages of human life; they are difficult to understand, maintain, and manage. The school years are no exception, and Bokura Ga Ita is the perfect story about social connections. A masterpiece by Yuu Yuki and of shลjo manga in the early 2000s, it offers a perspective rarely seen in this type of story.
Los vรญnculos afectivos siempre son complicados en todas las etapas del ser humano, cuesta entenderlos, mantenerlos y saberlos sobrellevar, la etapa escolar no escapa de esto y Bokura Ga Ita es el perfecto relato sobre las vinculaciones sociales, una obra maestra de Yuu Yuki y del shลjo a inicios de los 2000, muestra una perspectiva poco comรบn en este tipo de historias.
The story begins with Nanami Takahashi, an idealistic student with an open and touching heart, who falls in love with Yano Motoharu, the most popular boy in high school, although he is quite distant and frivolous, even with Nanami herself; nevertheless, Yano reciprocates Nanami's feelings and they begin a relationship.
La historia comienza con Nanami Takahashi, una estudiante idealista con un corazรณn abierto y conmovedor, quien se enamora de Yano Motoharu, el chico mรกs popular de la secundaria, aunque es bastante distante y frรญvolo, hasta con la propia Nanami, no obstante, Yano corresponde a los sentimientos de Nanami y empiezan una relaciรณn.
Their relationship seems like a fairy tale until Yano begins to withdraw and grow more distant than usual from Nanami. She discovers that the cause of his coldness is the sudden death of his ex-girlfriend in a car accident while she was with another man. This traumatic event turns his heart to stone, causing him to develop an irrational fear of forming new attachments and to become distrustful and aloof. Nanami decides to support him through his healing process, showing a deep commitment to being there for him and accepting the presence of that ghost in both their lives. This phase does not last long, however; upon graduating from high school, they part ways and go on to build separate lives in different cities.
Su relaciรณn parece un cuento de hadas, hasta que Yano se empieza a cerrar y ser mรกs distante de lo usual con Nanami. Ella descubre que la causa de su frialdad se debe a la muerte repentina de su exnovia, por un accidente automovilรญstico estando con otro hombre. Este traumรกtico acontecimiento hace que su corazรณn se vuelva de piedra, desarrolle un miedo irracional a la hora de tener otro vรญnculo, sea desconfiado y seco. Nanami decide acompaรฑarlo en su proceso de sanaciรณn, mostrando un gran interรฉs en estar allรญ para รฉl, aceptando la presencia de ese fantasma en la vida de ambos. Esta modalidad no dura mucho tiempo, pues cuando se gradรบan de la secundaria, se separan y cada quien hace su vida en distintas ciudades.
Nanami plans to attend university, while Yano withdraws from everything. Shortly before graduation, his mother commits suicide, intensifying his guilt; overwhelmed by depression, a financial crisis, and his own past, he decides to leave town to see what the future holds, cutting off all contact with Nanami because he believes he does not deserve her.
Nanami busca estudiar en la universidad, mientras que Yano se aรญsla de todo. Poco antes de su graduaciรณn, su madre se suicida y esto empeora la culpa de รฉl, que, abrumado por toda la depresiรณn, la crisis econรณmica por la que estaba pasando y su propio pasado, decide irse lejos a ver quรฉ serรก de รฉl, rompiendo todo contacto con Nanami, por creerse no merecedor de ella.
But, to the surprise of both, fate has other plans for them. Years later, their paths cross again. Yano forgives himself and leaves his past behind, giving himself the chance to be happy once more with Nanami. Meanwhile, she was already living her own life, and this included a romantic relationship with another man named Takeushi (an old friend who studied with her in high school). However, upon meeting Yano again, she realizes that her feelings for him have not changed, and Takeushi agrees to step aside so that they can be together.

This leads to a long, honest, and mature conversation between the lovebirds, resulting in a decision to forgive each other and begin building a future together. The plot of Bokura Ga Ita is one of the most complete I've ever seen. Regarding emotional conflicts, their development in the continuity of the series is quite sequential, something I personally appreciate very much; It touches on very deep themes such as mixed feelings, including jealousy, feeling inadequate for others, emotional shields, and unresolved grief. It offers a unique perspective on the transition to mature relationships, showing that we cannot reach that stage without first working on ourselves; for this reason, I give it a 9.5/10.
Esto trae como consecuencia una larga, honesta y madura conversaciรณn para los tortolitos, decidiendo asรญ perdonarse, empezando a construir un futuro juntos. La trama de Bokura Ga Ita es una de las mรกs completas que he visto. Con respecto a conflictos emocionales, el desarrollo de ellos en la continuidad de la serie es bastante secuencial, algo que en lo personal agradezco mucho; toca temas muy profundos como los sentimientos encontrados, entre los celos, sentirse insuficiente para los demรกs, los escudos emocionales, el luto no resuelto. Muestra una perspectiva diferente de cรณmo es el paso hacia las relaciones maduras y que no se puede llegar a ellas sin antes trabajar en nosotros mismos; por este motivo le doy un 9.5/10.
