Love By Chance (a Thai BL Series)

Review by @tegoshei · 2359d · of Love by Chance

Hello friends! Shei here. :) In this post, I am going to share about a Thai BL series I've watched recently.
In the past week, I met a student who is also into the BL or Boy's Love genre like me. We mostly talked about anime, manga and doujinshi of the said genre. However, last week, she recommended me to watch a Thai BL series which is entitled "Love By Chance". And since I took some days off, I decided to give it a shot.

Before this series, I have only watched another Thai BL drama called "Two Moons" *(I'll be talking about it in another post.)*, so I don't know a lot of series to compare it with... so my reactions would be pretty raw from a newb Thai drama fan.
In the series, LOVE by CHANCE, there are four different couples as you have seen in the picture above. They're all somehow connected since they go to the same University although they're mostly from different departments. I'd love to react on each couple's story. So, let's get started.
###

Ae and Pete

This is the main couple of the series. Pete *(the guy with the tie)* is a rich kid but is shy and has inferiority complex. He is a closeted gay guy who first fell in love with the wrong person, because his first boyfriend only used him for money. He was threatened to be outed to his mother if he didn't give him money.
Thinking about his situation, he unconsciously and carelessly crossed the road when Ae, an engineering student under a scholarship/Thai Program, accidentally hit him with his bicycle. That was their first fateful encounter.
Ae is a man of his words and is very honest. In their next encounter, Pete was being assaulted by his ex-boyfriend and Ae helped him out. He outed himself to Ae and Ae told him to just be honest with his mother which actually came out really well.
Ae, a straight guy, suddenly felt the urge to protect Pete every time... which later on developed to a deeper feeling.
###

Tin and Can

This is definitely my favorite couple!
Tin *the guy with the tie* is a friend and classmate of Pete. He is also from a rich family, but he has a very sad background which explains his lack of trust to other people. I mean, he couldn't even trust his own family. At first, I found him really annoying that I wanted him to just disappear from the series. xD However, it all changed when he decided to give his trust to Can.
Can, is a friend of Ae. He's from the sports science department. He got to know Ae because they're both from the soccer team. He's a very "alert" guy *(as he described himself)*. He could be very annoying at times, but he's so simple-minded that everyone would find him adorable. He's also very dedicated to his friends.
Their first encounter wasn't the best... it could even be the worst encounter in this series because Tin was being an a-hole while can is stupidly *(in a good way)* defending his friends.
###

Kengkla and Techno

This is somehow a weird and one-sided couple. They didn't have much appearance together in the series. Kengkla/Kla is the best friend of Techno's brother. I don't think they're university students yet because of their uniform. Kla usually bribes Techno's brother with something in exchange for some chances to be with Techno. There was once when No's brother did something with his motorcycle, so Kla had to fetch him in his car.
Their relationship is strange... but hopefully, there will be more of their story once Kla enters the University.
###

Tum and Tar

I need some flashbacks in order to understand this couple more. But from the series, Tar *(wearing stripes)* is currently living in France for his studies. Well, there was another reason for him to leave Thailand. *(which will be a spoiler is I say it here... so yeah)*
Tum, on the other hand, is Tar's stepbrother who is in love with him. They're not blood related but since they're now family because their parents remarried, the situation became complicated.
Tum also had no idea what Tar's past was like, so it was difficult for them to solve their issues.
Well, despite having issues with romantic relationship, Tum is doing his best to be the supportive brother Tar needs the most. It's kind of painful to watch them, though.

The story didn't solely focused on the romantic relationships between these guys, but also in the importance of friendship and family.
I like how every character is portrayed and the story itself is interesting. Several issues were tackled which are pretty relatable in today's society.
I want to know more about Tin-Can, though. Their story is very interesting for me. And when I was looking for photos for this post, I came across a second season announcement which will be focusing on them. It made me extremely happy!

### Personal Thoughts:

We live in a world where gender is sometimes an issue and there are still a lot of people who are not accepting of these kinds of relationships. However, whenever I see families... especially parents who are proud of their child despite his/her gender, I feel so happy and moved!
I have a lot of gay, lesbian, bisexual, asexual, etc friends... and I like them as they are. After all, we are all humans. It hurts to see people treating them as sickness when actually it isn't. I am genderfluid myself. Well, I'm more of a panromantic, demisexual. But hey!!! Gender doesn't define who you are. :) Just be true to yourself! Do what you want as long as you're not hurting others. I always believe that acceptance and understanding are very important. :)

In the end, love wins!

Thanks a lot for checking this post out! Until next time! (^_^)/

I guess that Thai BL series are the new trend now. I watched GMMTV on YouTube before. Dark Blue Kiss. While the world's gone gaga over Tine and Sarawat, there was Pete and Kao, Sun and Mork. 😂

I'll try to watch this. In the end, love wins! 👬
