I took a day off yesterday and decided to watch a movie on Netflix. I just checked my to-watch list and decided on ***Under Paris***.
I'm not a huge fan of shark movies, but I do watch them once in a while. This particular movie made me curious because, from the trailer, the shark in the movie was seen swimming in a river which is quite rare. I know it's possible for specific kinds of sharks to survive in freshwater, but the majority of them need saltwater to survive. Anyway, let's talk about the plot.
Three years before the movie's main plot, a group of scientists went to the "garbage patch" in the Pacific near Hawaii. They were observing a certain shark they named Lilith and how it's coping with the environment. Unfortunately, it ended in a tragedy when Sophia's (the main character) colleagues were attacked.
Three years following the incident, Paris was about to hold the World Triathlon Championships on the Seine river. They've been trying to clean and the government has spent a lot on the preparation.
However, a young environmental activist named Mika informed Sophia that she and her team tracked the shark, and is currently swimming in the river.
With the triathlon coming, Sophia, Mika, and the Seine River police tried to join forces to prevent a bloodbath. Although she was still coping with her trauma, Sophia returned to her work to stop the shark.

Here's the trailer of the said movie above.
I personally enjoyed watching the movie. Although it's kind of a typical shark movie, it was oddly entertaining for me. I have some reasons for that.
One thing that I like the most in the movie is its message regarding climate change. We are facing heavy environmental issues right now, but it's difficult to address them. It's always a matter of environment versus economy or convenience. The movie made a great statement on this, especially the ending.
It also showed a representation of how people (especially some government officials) deal with such problems. It's annoyingly accurate in certain cases. xD
Another thing that I find satisfying is when foolish characters get the end that they deserve. hahah These kinds of characters can be so annoying, so you probably know how it feels when you see them struggling or the like. Yes, I can be mean... but it's just a movie. lol
Despite the movie's predictability, I kind of enjoyed it. It's less than two hours long, so it was doable and I didn't have a hard time finishing it. More than the story and the cinematography, I appreciate the message that lies within the film. It's an eye-opener.
If you're into typical shark movies, then you may enjoy this one as well. I couldn't say I highly recommend it, but if you have some time to spare, then why not give it a shot?
That's it for this post. Thanks for reading and see you around!
