Work, work, work! That's basically what takes up most of our time as adults, right? We're always constantly stressing about how to put food on the table, pay bills or attain certain financial goals. If we're not working then we're occupied with really serious adult stuff like taxes, emails, coffee and so on. Then on weekends, we sit outside sipping martini with our legs crossed and shades on as we watch the kids play and shout "Be careful, John."

People say that "kids will be kids" but that's not always the case. Of course kids will grow up to become adults but that doesn't mean that the child inside a person should die. Beyond the mature fun stuff (like chess or whatever) that we do as adults, sometimes it feels really great to do something that makes you feel young again. The thrill can be really refreshing and can help prevent one from becoming a grumpy adult.

If you have read until this point, you're probably wondering what point I'm trying to make. Well, today I want to talk about a movie that really gets to me every time I see it. This movie is called Tag and it holds a special place in my heart. Read along and get to know more about it.

Based on a true story, Tag is a movie about five adult men who have been playing the game of Tag for 30 years. Just in case you don't know how the game of tag goes, someone chases other players and anyone he catches gets to be the one doing the chasing. Not something adults would typically do right? Well, these men don't think so. This game is clearly a children's game but these grown men have, somehow, kept this game going for 30 years. You're probably wondering how they do that. Well, keep reading.

During the month of May of every year, these guys keep everything aside to pick up their game from where they left off the previous year. They track each other in different locations just for the sake of having fun for the entire thirty-one days of the month. The one who was "it" last from the previous year starts the game and the rest follow (or are followed in this case).

Now, these guys have been playing their game for 30 years but somehow one of them has never been tagged. Throughout the movie, the rest of the guys work together to try and tag this guy, Jerry, but it's not as easy at it seems. Jerry is fast, evasive, smart and all round the best tag player of them all and so tagging him proves to be a challenge. To match Jerry, the rest of the guys have to be really smart. They come up with various plans to trap and tag him but all of their attempts seem to be futile. Jerry's wits frustrate the gang and faced with issues of love, sickness and trust, their relationship begins to strain.

Will these guys ever be able to tag Jerry? Will Jerry see the value of their friendship over his reputation? Can they fix their relationship before the damage becomes irreversible? Well, why don't you see the movie and find out!

I'm not sure how I came across this movie. I think it was just sitting in my laptop sometime in 2018 and with nothing else to watch back then, I decided to check it out. I really didn't know what to think about the movie at first. I hadn't ever heard of it and initially it was just a way to pass time but just as the movie started, I was glued to the screen.

Here are some things about this movie that caught my attention;

Straight up hilarious:

If you're looking for a way to just have a good laugh and unwind, then you should totally check this movie out. The movie is just really funny. Elements like color, sound, flashback, monologue, etc. are properly and strategically used to keep the audience guessing. The characters also complement each other very well with their great dialogues and actions giving the viewers quite the show. That said, I have to mention that this movie has some sexual jokes and references that are inappropriate for a younger audience.

A huge impact:

When I saw this movie again a few days back, it reminded me of a time last year when me and two of my friends just decided to play a Nigerian children's game called Suwe. It was really silly especially with people staring at us like we were crazy or something but it was also really refreshing and great. I had a lot of work to complete that night and so I was really stressed but those short hours of reviving my inner child helped me handle the stress a lot.

Tag reminds us to keep the little child in us alive and kicking. Life shouldn't just be about suits, ties and a 9-5. Sometimes it's ok to do silly things as long as you aren't bothering anyone. The concept of adulthood and maturity can get a bit toxic when you refuse to let loose. So go ahead, let loose! Let your inner child take over once in a while.

Clearly underrated:

When I saw this movie I had one of those "where have you been all my life" moment. Even though I saw the movie the same year it was released, I felt like I should have heard of it earlier. How did this movie get buried? Why wasn't it hyped? I have seen this movie like three different times and it just never gets old. I really feel like the movie, the cast and crew should have received a lot more credit than they did. I won't say it's great but it's just better than what the critics online have said about it.

The Game (A unique plot):

I think it's ingenious that people discovered a way to keep a game going for decades. Despite the fact that they had to grow up, move to different cities and live different lives, these guys figured out how to remain friends for a long time. You can't play a game forever so setting out a particular month in the year when this game would be played was really a smart move. Also, these guys had a rule book that guided how their game was played. The rules in the book can be amended if they all agree and sign to it. It's kind of ridiculous if you think about it. I think my favorite rule is that "the last 'it' from each season will live in shame for one year". It's silly but the way the game is organized helped them maintain their friendship. These guys may have grown up but they never grew apart.

Friendship over everything:

The competition in this movie got really intense that at some point, the game was putting a strain on the guys' friendship. They got too emotionally attached to winning that they started to neglect one another's feelings, health and wellbeing. They even said some horrible things that I find questionable. It got so bad that they forgot the reason they played the game in the first place which was to keep their friendship alive. Sadly, the game was tearing them apart rather than bringing them closer. This really got me thinking a lot.

Ed Helms plays the character of Hoagie in Tag. He's the one who brings all the friends together at the beginning of the movie for "one last game". He is kind of the leader of the gang and is the one who comes up with the plans to trap Jerry. Hoagie is really outspoken and is the type of character that will stop at nothing to be a winner. He takes risks but is a bit more conservative than some other characters. He is simple but very funny to watch.

Jon Hamm has always been a great actor to see in movies. He plays the role of Bob Callahan and is hands-down the funniest character of them all in my opinion. Bob is a successful business man with a great competitive spirit. He is really confident except when it comes to the ladies. Bob is a stand-up guy with morals. His biggest flaw, though, is that sometimes he can get arrogant and that never goes well for him.

Jake Johnson plays the character of Chilli, the junkie friend who doesn't "have a tie". Chilli is a very reckless and tough player. He does some painful stunts that make you go "ohhh" during the movie. He is a divorced man who does not have a job but sits around all day doing drugs. He also gets kind of insensitive but is really confident especially with the ladies. The guy is just the opposite of Callahan.

Hannibal Buress plays the character of good ol' Sable. He is kind of an odd duck but that's what makes him special. Sable is probably suffering from some sort of mental illness or trauma. Sometimes it feels like he's not there but you can always trust him to say something silly to draw your attention. He is smart and dumb at the same time. A great character to watch indeed.

Ah Jerry. This character is played by Jeremy Renner. Jerry is the toughest, fastest and smartest one among the guys. He is the best tag player because he has not been tagged in 30 years. Jerry is a very competitive guy and this quality has made him the champion of the game. However, because he hasn't been tagged, he spends less time with his friends and becomes distant.

And now for the ladies. Isla Fisher plays the role of Anna, Hoaghie's wife. She might be a lady but she is the most competitive of them all. If you think Chilli is reckless, just wait until you see Anna. She is the most intense of them all and would do anything to win. She is really loud and scary but gets soft with her husband.

Annabelle Wallis plays the character of Rebecca Crosby, the Wall Street Journal reporter, who gets mixed up with this whole tag situation. She finds out about the game of tag that has been going on for years and decides to cover the story. She goes on crazy adventures with the gang asking questions and demystifying the situation for herself and the audience. In the beginning, she is clearly confused but she eventually gets the the hang of everything.

From everything I've written, it's no secret that I totally recommend this movie. Except for the fact that the movie might not be ok for a younger audience because of the sexual references, the movie is a great watch. If you're like me, you may find it intriguing that a group of men dedicate a whole month to play a children's game. There is an extra layer of fun and suspense because, unlike on the playground, you can't tell where and when your friend will come out from. It's really easy to get distracted with life and forget that the game is on and then, boom, you're it.

This movie is going to remain one of my all time favorites. The characters are great, the lighting and music are good and the plot is unique. The fact that it's based on a true story makes it much more interesting. So, if you ever have some free time, consider seeing the movie Tag.

No estoy seguro de cómo me encontré con esta película. Creo que estaba sentado en mi computadora portátil en algún momento de 2018 y sin nada más que ver en ese entonces, decidí echarle un vistazo. Cuando volví a ver esta película hace unos días, me recordó una época del año pasado cuando dos de mis amigos y yo decidimos jugar un juego infantil nigeriano llamado Suwe. Fue realmente tonto, especialmente con la gente mirándonos como si estuviéramos locos o algo así, pero también fue realmente refrescante y genial. Tenía mucho trabajo que completar esa noche y estaba muy estresado, pero esas cortas horas de revivir a mi niño interior me ayudaron mucho a manejar el estrés.

El concepto de adultez y madurez puede volverse un poco tóxico cuando te niegas a soltarte. ¡Así que adelante, déjate llevar! Deja que tu niño interior se haga cargo de vez en cuando.

Claramente infravalorado:

Cuando vi esta película tuve uno de esos momentos de "¿dónde has estado toda mi vida?". Aunque vi la película el mismo año en que se estrenó, sentí que debería haber oído hablar de ella antes. ¿Cómo fue enterrada esta película? ¿Por qué no fue promocionado? He visto esta película como tres veces diferentes y nunca pasa de moda. Realmente siento que la película, el elenco y el equipo deberían haber recibido mucho más crédito del que recibieron. No diré que es genial, pero es mejor de lo que han dicho los críticos en línea al respecto.

El Juego (Una trama única):

Creo que es ingenioso que la gente haya descubierto una forma de mantener un juego durante décadas. A pesar de que tuvieron que crecer, mudarse a diferentes ciudades y vivir vidas diferentes, estos muchachos descubrieron cómo seguir siendo amigos durante mucho tiempo. No puedes jugar un juego para siempre, por lo que establecer un mes en particular en el año en el que se jugaría este juego fue realmente un movimiento inteligente. Además, estos muchachos tenían un libro de reglas que guiaba cómo se jugaba su juego. Las reglas del libro pueden modificarse si todos están de acuerdo y lo firman. Es un poco ridículo si lo piensas. Creo que mi regla favorita es que "el último 'eso' de cada temporada vivirá avergonzado durante un año". Es una tontería, pero la forma en que está organizado el juego les ayudó a mantener su amistad. Estos chicos pueden haber crecido, pero nunca se separaron.

Amistad por encima de todo:

La competencia en esta película se volvió tan intensa que, en algún momento, el juego puso a prueba la amistad de los muchachos. Se apegaron demasiado emocionalmente a ganar que comenzaron a descuidar los sentimientos, la salud y el bienestar de los demás. Incluso dijeron algunas cosas horribles que encuentro cuestionables. Esto realmente me hizo pensar mucho.
