Why the fuck should you watch “Mortal Engines”? • You pick movies like you pick women – only looks matter and none of that personality-crap. • You are addicted to steampunk fantasy worlds. • You want to brainwash your wife that the world can end any time so you could finally build that End of the World Bunker in the backyard that you have always wanted. • You like the terminator movies. You’ll get some nice bloodthirsty robots.
Mortal Engines is a postpunk fantasy movie that takes place 1000 years in the future in a post apocalyptic world, where people live in moving cities and try to survive as they can. The setting is interesting and the visuals beautiful. And yet…the movie just doesn’t work.
The dialogue only exists to explain something for the viewers and not for interaction of characters. People in the movie make decisions that are usually very illogical. This movie suits perfectly well for a bedtime movie for children – they would understand things that thinking adults would not.
What this movie gets right is portraying strong female characters in a natural way. Heroes in movies should always have flaws – even the female ones (Not like the certain unbelievable Rey in the certain Star Wars movies) otherwise you just don’t care about them.
Another day has passed and another big budget movie has underdelivered. That’s a good thing I quess, because it means the world’s end (aka Sharknado) is still not coming.
Why the fuck you shouldn’t watch “Mortal Engines”? • You are mr. Glass from the movie Unbreakable and can’t facepalm because you’ll break your hands. • You don't drink alcohol, so you really don't have any way to make this movie better for yourself. • You hate getting blasted with absurd plot tools, which make you cringe long after the absurdity has ended. • You like the Mortal Engines books and don’t want to ruin that world for yourself.
