Hello friends, I'm here with another interesting movie title Mortal Engines and I would like to share you with here.

The movie is about, In a post-apocalyptic world where cities move and consume each other to survive, two strangers come together to stop a sinister and destructive conspiracy.

It begins when set more than a thousand years in the future following a cataclysmic conflict known as the Sixty-Minute War, the remnants of mankind regroup and form mobile cities, called “Traction Cities”.

Under a philosophy known as “Municipal Darwinism”, larger “predator” cities hunt and absorb smaller settlements in the “Great Hunting Ground”, which includes Great Britain and Continental Europe.

In opposition, settlements of the “Anti-Traction League” have developed an alternative civilization consisting of “static settlements” in Asia led by Shan Guo (formerly China), protected by the “Shield Wall”.

Relics of 21st-century technology such as toasters, computers, and smartphones are valued by historians as “Old-Tech.”

The City of London captures a small Bavarian mining town called Salzhaken, absorbing its population and resources, under orders of Lord Mayor Magnus Crome.

Tom Natsworthy, an apprentice historian, arrives at London's “Gut” to collect Salzhaken's Old-Tech for London's Museum.

Hester Shaw, a masked twenty-something woman among the Salzhakens, attempts to assassinate Thaddeus Valentine, Head of the Guild of Historians, but Tom intervenes, pursuing Hester to a chute.

Hester escapes, but not before telling him that Valentine murdered her mother and scarred her face. When Tom informs Valentine of this, he pushes Tom down the chute.

Tom and Hester are forced to work together to traverse the Hunting Ground, surviving Southwest.

Scavs on a night hunt, and find refuge in a vehicle called Scuttle bug, but the owners lock them in a cell, intending to sell them as slaves.

Hester confides that Valentine killed her archaeologist mother Pandora after stealing a piece of Old-Tech she found in a dig in the Dead Continent of the Americas, while young Hester escaped with a necklace her mother gave her.

Meanwhile, Valentine frees Shrike, a reanimated cyborg known as a “Stalker”, from the offshore walking prison Sharkmoor, to find and kill Hester.

At the slave market of Rust water in the Outlands, Tom and Hester are rescued by Anti-Traction League agent Anna Fang.

During the chaos, they are pursued by Shrike, whom Hester reveals she knows.

Hester explains that Shrike had found and raised her after escaping Valentine, and Hester promised to let him turn her into a Stalker like himself.

She left after discovering that London had entered the Great Hunting Ground, giving her a chance to kill Valentine.

In London, Valentine's good-natured daughter Katherine grows estranged from her father, especially after Apprentice Engineer Bevis Pod informs her that Valentine pushed Tom down the chute.

They learn Valentine's energy project in the re-purposed St. Paul's cathedral is more than it seems.

Hester and Tom travel on Anna's airship, the Jenny Haniver, to the airborne city Air haven, meeting other Anti-Traction League members.

After questioning Hester, Tom realizes Pandora discovered a computer core for MEDUSA, a quantum energy-based super weapon used by the belligerents during the Sixty-Minute War to instantly destroy entire cities.

Albeit, shattering the Earth's crust into a thousand pieces that have rearranged the former continents.

The Guild of Engineers has stolen the remaining components from Tom's museum workshop and built a MEDUSA under Valentine's orders.

Shrike catches up with them, resulting in a fierce skirmish that critically wounds him and destroys Airhaven.

Realizing that Hester is in love with Tom, he spares Tom and frees her of her promise before perishing.

As Hester, Tom, and Anna travel to the Shield Wall of Batmunkh Gompa with the surviving Anti-Tractionists.

Valentine kills Crome in a coup and musters support from Londoners by vowing to destroy the Shield Wall with MEDUSA and lead them to a new Hunting Ground in Asia.

Anna convinces Shan Guo's Governor Kwan to launch the Anti-Tractionist airship fleet against London, but MEDUSA destroys the fleet and blasts a hole through the Shield Wall.

After coming upon a stone carving of Medusa, Hester discovers that her mother's necklace hides a “crash drive”, a kill switch for MEDUSA.

Hester, Tom, Anna, and the remaining Anti-Tractionists lead a raid against London, braving the city's anti-aircraft guns.

Find out what happened next as Hester, Tom, Anna, and the remaining Anti-Tractionists lead a raid against London, braving the city's anti-aircraft guns as it gets interesting.

    Thanks for reading my post.

    Mortal Engines

Have you ever had a film that you saw the add for and thought I don't know if I want to watch it but the director and people involved in it's development are good so this might be a good film? We'll for me that is what Mortal Engines is and let's be honest coming off the back of The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings CGI was pushed to all new levels and opened the door for a heap of new awesome possibilities.

Unfortunately that doesn't always transition to the actual feature film on offer and despite it having good backing, the film didn't particularly appeal to me.

image source So What's it about? Mortal Engines is a post apocalyptic world set 1000 years after 2018 where a sixty minute war destroyed the world as we knew it and a new continent was formed. From the rubble people built ginormous cities on wheels and it was survival of the fittest as cities destroyed each other.

The thing with post apocalyptic world themes is that they provide the writer with all kinds of freedom and if we're going to be honest based on past human experiences. Being brought on by a war is probably going to be a reality at some point.

image source In Mortal Engines that weapon is a relic of the past that is some form of fusion canon which one of the cities manages to rebuild and then tried to take on the East to conquer more of the new world.

Unlike the west? I am not sure if that's what it is but it appears to be that way. The east still remains in static homes surrounding a wall which is undestroyable until of course Medusa is built and it pretty much gets destroyed. Some heroes save the day rah rah rah.

Lucky I didn't pay money to see it

I only know the story line because after a number of years it was finally screened on T.V and I watched it with the kids who didn't seem to mind it. Which already indicates to me that it is a crap film.

The thing with apocalyptic films is that they have an endless infinity of what you can dream up but within limits. Things to do with space, really good they have always been good films because they push our imagination and get us thinking.

Wastelands, Zombies even ape take overs all great things but where Mortal Engines fail is that it is completely unrealistic (I know right, planet of the Apes) But hear me out.

Image Source So hear me out, we're 1000 years into the future where it is possible to bring people back to life as Zombie/Cyborgs and even the Cyborgs can make more Cyborgs. We've still got planes also yet we don't have space travel.

The biggest unrealistic crunch is the fact we now have fully mobile cities and that is apparently how everyone now lives. So the first question to sustain this idea is that there must be something wrong with the ground? Well, no there doesn't appear to be there may have been in the past but people survived and allegedly all the advanced tech from the past was lost in the 60 minute war and because of that people do not have knowledge anymore. image source Except for the fact that we can turn humans into immortal cyborgs which is something we can't do now but a less civilized future can. It can also solve all the issues around physics and build moving countries without an issue.

Oh and we can also have floating cities and cities on the sea.

This is kind of the reason why the film flopped and although I am sure the book was good the film just did not connect with audiences in a logical manner.

The film could have been saved if it had a great plot but unfortunately it didn't even have that. As it starts someones mum got killed and the kid was after revenge. Then half way through we learn it was due to a weapon and being thousands of years later I have no idea how this is the first time the weapon has been located.

Then we meet some agents who had been searching for our main character because the mum said look after her and she was the key to saving the world. This plot made no sense as the mum was killed instantly and it all happened off screen.

Without boring you with more irrelevant information the film was a flop because it could never even get off the ground with a proper story.

Have you Seen Mortal Engines? how did you find it?

  4. Mortal Engines - Movie Review@coldsteem2748d

Peter Jackson is adept at delivering films with amazing visual appeal. When I learned he was a producer on Mortal Engines, I decided I would check the film out in IMax 3D. Particularly since there is not an additional charge for the format for members of AMC's A-List. With a budget of 140 million dollars, I was certain that the film would be a visiaul treat, if nothing else. I was right on both accounts. A visual treat. Nothing else.

Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar) is a rebel with a personal axe to grind. Pulse weapons created a post-apocalyptic world where cities have become mechanized. The behemoth metropolis' canibalize smaller mechanized communities as it motors around Europe looking for victims. London is a behemoth, consuming everything in her path. Thadeus Valentine (Hugo Weaving) is the architect of London's destructive existence. His path is about to cross with Hester Shaw after leaving her for dead a decade ago. Shaw intends to take Valentine down. She is joined in her endeavor by Londonite Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan) who thwarts her attempt to kill Valentine only to end up depending upon Shaw for his survival. As London's dark secret is about to be revealed, Hester and Tom will team up with a misfit band of rebels to stop London's destructive rampage.

The one bright spot with my experience is that this film was included in my A-List subscription. So I didn't actually pay to see it. I will also give the film points for the visual qualities of the film, but that is just not enough. The story was contrived and weak. The story is based on a book by Philip Reeve. I am sure the novel must have been better than the screenplay. There wasn't enough time for full character development, creating a sense that the characters lacked dimension and relationships were not fully vetted or changed to quickly. The relationship between Tom and Hester was particularly important but felt rushed. But I was also interested in learning more about Katherine Valentine and Bevis Pod. The plot itself was a bit shallow and predictable. This film ran past two hours, yet didn't seem to have enough time to develop characters or deliver a worthwhile story. The massive budget was wasted on exceptional special effects to tell a story that was mediocre at best. It was a waste of great technology on tepid story telling.

The characters depended on great performances to make up for poor writing. Yet the casting was a mixed bag. The only characters I really thought owned their roles were Weaving as Valentine and Ronan Raftery as Pod. And the latter was a very minor role. Hilmar was okay, but I wasn't fully buying in to her character. I really didn't much care what happened to her or Tom. I was not familiar with quite a few of the British actors that populated this film. The acting was solid, but not exceptional. But I don't want to blame this tripe on the actors. They had little to work with, so I need to find some balance in evaluating their contributions. What I can say with authority is that you won't be seeing any Oscar nominees in this lot.

Mortal Engines is a solid PG-13 film. The movie manages to keep the objectionable material contextual and limited in order to eke out a teen and tween-friendly rating. This is a story geared toward young adults, so that rating was likely forefront in the mind of the producers when they created this slop. The rating was primarily related to violence. There were some intense action sequences and a few battles, although limited single combat. There was also talk of selling humans as sausage meet and other references to cannibalism. Overall, these factors were contextual and delivered with a soft hand to ensure that the MPAA gave this film a rating geared towards the target audience. However, I think the target audience may also be a bit bored with this shallow tale. The film has a run time of two hours, eight minutes.

IMDb is kind to this film. The rating currently sits at 6.5. I think that is based on two factors. Early voting by fans of the book and fans of the visual qualities of this film. The visual aspects of this film are stunning. I would expect nothing less from a project involving Peter Jackson. However, is this a story that really needed to be told? This film was basically Star Wars with an apocalyptic setting. The story was predictable, shallow and lacked good character development. Visuals are not enough for me to give a film a recommendation. I am going to depart wildly from the IMDb rating and give this film a non-recommendation. 5/10.

  7. Mortal Engines Science-Fiction Trailer (2018)@mediaguy3114d

This has some amazing visuals with a weird concept. It feels like something I would have dreamed up when I was a kid. Which I would commend hollywood for having some creativity for once but of course this is a book adaption. I am not really sure what the plot or substance of the film will be, but at least it has Peter Jackson behind it to give us some hope.
