Mother! (2017)

a Themovieplace short review and recommendation to the Steemit Community

Hello everyone, I apologize for not continuing this kind of article called Daily Movie Recommendation and it's been two weeks already from my last article where I wrote about the movie Blade Runner 2049 (2017) which I saw in the cinema and that's what I did with the movie Mother! (2017) too. Yesterday in the morning I was at work and I searched for a few minutes if the Romanian cinemas released this movie which was scheduled on October 20th and 3 days ago they did not show it that the movie would run and I was very upset. To my surprise I found that the movie will run in the cinema in Arad the nearest town from where I live and my working schedule was until 19:00 PM and I had two options to see the movie in the hours 20:00 PM and 22:30 PM, and I chose the second option because me and my brother we had to do another hour to the destination and we were not sure whether we were in time or not and it was a good choice choosing the last option. We both got to the cinema where there were already two people and in the meantime have come another six and for a premiere it seemed a very low number. Darren Aronofsky is one of my favorite directors who began his career as a director with the movie Pi (1998) and until then he made a few short movies but the movie Pi was the first feature movie with a very small budget estimate at $60,000 but with a great success of $3,216,970 in the US. I will start to describe this film a little and the reasons why I liked and also I will write below some spoilers in the spoiler alert section and I will only reveal a few things and I will leave you to discover the rest if you decide to watch this movie.

Short Review(Possible spoilers)

The movie starts with Him who is an acclaimed writer which is in the absence of ideas and struggles to write something but it does not succeed and will use a crystal object in a pedestal with which he succeeds to revive the house which looks very awful after passing through a fire but now everything looks like before and during this time Mother wakes up and she try to find Him.

A new guest appears in the life of the two who turns out to be a doctor and a big fan of Him and the two begin to talk about the created works and finally Man is invited by Him to stay with them in the house where is enough space, but Mother does not agree with this proposal and reproaches Him that this is an unknown person and it is not wise to let him stay with them. We notice that Man it feels very bad and often crashes but still do not let go of cigarettes and consumes alcohol too and one night Mother finds him in the toilet being very sick after drinking but it is helped by Him to restore his condition.

Another day Woman appear in front of the entrance door and Mother wondering who this woman is and finally turns out to be Man's wife and she realizes she is not well welcome in the house and Mother try to keep it back to let her do what she wants and prevents her to enter her husband's working room where is the crystal too. Here is the time to finish my short review of this film and I'll let you see what's going on and I will continue to say a few things I liked in this movie. For those who expect this movie to be a horror I tell you from the beginning that it will not be the way you want it although it is categorized as a horror movie is a different genre of horror being a psychological one and it's more mystery in it and I can say it's the kind of movies like The Shining (1980), Rosemary's Baby (1968), The Others (2001), The Sixth Sense (1999) and other. I think it was a pretty risky move to put this movie in this Halloween period and I mean about a few countries including my country who launched the film in this period and the advertisement is like for a horror movie and it's not true and it will make many people to hate it. What I really liked about this movie is the acting which was phenomenal especially from the actress Jennifer Lawrence who is likely to win an Oscar again and also the images were great and how the movie was filmed It was something interesting and captivating what I rarely see in a movie.

Spoiler Alert

I will only say a few things what I think that is about this movie and one important thing is that I don't know if you know that Darren Aronofsky is very fascinated by the Bible and uses almost in every movie made by him things that are found in this book and in this movie presented us the old and the new testament, the old one being more used in this movie and many things can be deduced if you watch the movie being one that will be discussed from now and in the years to come. The film is full of metaphors and you think sometimes that it's a theater play and I noticed that there are times when the society is satirized. Mother! (2017) is a special type of movie who is either loved or hated being one of the most underrated movies of the year and those who want to see something special this movie is a must see.

My rating 9/10(exceptional acting and a very disturbing movie, being one of the best of this year )

Great review, one of your best ones. I still haven't watched the movie, but when I will, I will be prepared. The trailer made it seem like it's a Rosemary's Baby ripoff and it's not even in the same direction or genre.

Great review and post. For some reason I trust peoples opinion on steemit than anywhere else on the web. We are real!!

Everyone I know who saw it hated it, and one of them even saw it for free. I didn't feel like sitting though and hour and whatever being preached at about how terrible man is and how we've destroyed the earth but, after your review, I may give it a look.

    Nice review!

Went to see this one with a friend a while back without knowing anything about it aside from the movie being full of metaphores about the bible. I expected this to be a movie where at the end you have no clue what you just watched (like Enemy from Villeneuve which I loved after reading up). The overall story was quite clear at the end and I really respect this movie despite it not fully being my genre.
