  1. A review of "Mother!": a psychotic delirium about love in all of its conceivable, sacred and profane manifestations@aurzeq1335d

    Plot

The married couple at the center of the movie reside in a decaying farmhouse in the middle of a forest. The wife (Jennifer Lawrence), a woman who loves to aid and serve her husband (Javier Bardem), a well-respected poet who is experiencing a severe creative crisis, has lovingly and devotedly rebuilt the home after it was completely destroyed by fire. The man has discovered a crystal among the wreckage of the house, which he closely guards and forbids his wife from touching. Even though she is completely committed to her spouse, the lady starts to experience some envy over his creative fixation and feels cut off from the thoughts of the guy she adores and idolizes. One day, a stranger (Ed Harris) who professes to be a huge admirer of the poet knocks on the door. Despite his wife's objections, the latter chooses to make room for the stranger because the compliments and attention from the enigmatic man feed his ego. The wife is greatly distressed as she feels diminished. Additionally, as the stranger's wife (Michelle Pfeiffer) and the bothersome kids arrive and ruin the home's tranquil ambiance, her concerns intensify.

    Why you should watch it?

Mother! asserts its femininity from the very beginning. Without Jennifer Lawrence, Mother! would not be possible. The picture not only features Aronofsky's (the director) new muse in every frame, but it also radiates her spirit. The author's camera sticks to the main character without ever losing sight of her. Her perspective serves as the sole filter for the story. The viewer is compelled to share her doubts, uncertainties, and fears; from the outset, he is drawn into the woman's escalating nightmare and shares her perplexity over the strange occurrences taking place in her home, the extraordinary residence that serves as the setting for Mother! in its entirety. In his allegory, Darren Aronofsky wants to put into contrast Jennifer's purity with the impurity and flaws of these creatures, who serve as the sources of disaster. In the second half, instead, Lawrence's delicate register of quiet passages and soft tones explodes into uncontrollable wrath. Additionally, the actress' voice alters, frequently becoming a whisper. An almost Botticellian composition is produced when she initially gets out of bed, facing the front entrance with her long ash-blond hair pulled back in a braid and the camera framing her from behind.

In some ways, the image of the movie represents Lawrence's prominence, as her figure is emphasized in colors of ochre and yellow. Additionally, these will be the colors that dominate every room in the house. The pictures are painted in tones that evoke fire and aridity. This decision is evocative of how the house was constructed on the ruins of another house that had been destroyed by fire. The movie has no soundtrack, which is nearly unheard of in contemporary Hollywood productions. Instead, we hear only the sounds that are present during the action. Despite this, the movie never gets dull and succeeds in maintaining the audience's interest. A good, simple story, careful direction, and editing get all of the credit for this.

By no means is the awful and unspeakable violence that we witness at the conclusion an end in itself. The wife experiences both physical and psychological abuse, which the director utilizes as a symbol. A relationship torn apart and torn to pieces also due to Bardem's own selfishness, who is unable to stand by his wife without reservation even in the face of the most terrible of acts. Although it is more akin to appreciation than pure love, the husband feels a protective feeling toward the woman. This is Mother!, a movie about love in all of its conceivable, sacred and profane manifestations. A complex emotion that can affect any person, and perhaps this is why the protagonists are simply referred to as "man," "woman," "husband," and "wife."

    Conclusion

A film that was much misunderstood by critics on release (and continues to be so). We are confronted with a psychotic delirium staged in a (very) theatrical, but nonetheless sensational, manner. Some scenes, especially the final ones involving a baby, were/are considered too excessive, but we are still talking about a movie, and I have to admit that I cannot help but appreciate the originality of Aronofsky, who doesn't give a damn about anything or anyone and does whatever he wants to deliver his message. After the constraints of political correctness and prejudice have been removed, it is impossible to characterize Mother! as a failure, far from it. We are dealing with a piece of work that knows how to be deep and meaningful without sacrificing daring or technical skill.

  2. Cine TV Contest #26 - Worst Movie is Mother!: A nightmare with biblical and ecological connotations/¡Madre!: La una pesadilla con connotaciones bíblicas y ecológicas@neiraurdaneta1413d

    Source

Hello friends, welcome to my blog, I am pleased to participate again in this contest that the CineTV community does every week. Talking about which movies disappoint you, bore you and hate, is not easy because there are many, over the years. You go to see them with great expectations because you like their actors, directors or the plot, but then you feel like you wasted your time watching it and others end up hating them. One of those movies I saw in 2017 was ¡Mother!, a film directed by Darren Aronofsky, in addition to a cast of actors such as: Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domhnall Gleeson, Kristen Wiig, Brian Gleeson , Cristina Rosato, Marcia Jean Kurtz, Ambrosio De Luca, Hamza Haq, Anana Rydvald, Arthur Holden, among others.

The film is about a couple who lives far from the city, Jennifer (mother), is a housewife, in love and devoted to her husband (Bardem), who is a poet and writer who suffers from a block to carry out his work, but he is a somewhat indifferent, egocentric and self-absorbed man. That was more or less what one of my friends had told us about the movie she had read. In addition, that she had actors that she loved, such as Bardem and Ed Harris (male), with this information we decided to go see her. My friends and I are cinephiles, every weekend we watch a movie and every weekend we rotate who chooses it. We have similar tastes, so we usually agree on the films we want to see, although this time it was not like that.

From the moment the movie started, I particularly felt it was slow, boring, but when the madness began to call it something and I began to see the symbolism, that they used and recreated a free version of the Bible and ecological ideas, well, I asked myself: What is this madness? Not only, the story had neither head nor tail; what we were seeing, but the way it was spinning, to call it something, was distorted and entangled from the first moment. Obviously, we wanted to kill (figuratively speaking) our friend for making us see such madness, but since we are one of those who are going to destroy a movie, we see it in its entirety, because we soak up the 120 minutes that the tape lasts.

I must say that the performances seemed exaggerated to me and they did not convince at all in the message they tried to leave, if that was their intention or it was just causing controversy. The tape was a visual torture, although I wasn't offended if that was the intention because of the religious implications, maybe because I'm not religious. But today I think that was the intention, the bad thing is that he wanted to cover everything in 120 minutes, which I consider impossible to digest, he spoke with religious metaphors of the beginning of man, but also of life, death, fanaticism, destruction, love among others that it is too much for a movie. What he did was not understood and that is something that my friends and I discussed when we left.

Whenever I go out with my friends to see movies, we talk about what we don't like or don't like about the film and the actors, in this case we all agree that what the film wanted to generate, create controversy or hatred, it didn't generate it unless you are a religious fanatic or environmentalist. The story is not coherent and goes to extremes in the most visceral way possible, which makes it incomprehensible at times. In short, a total mess of different thoughts, theologies and philosophies trying to say something. For me this is one of the worst films I've seen in my life and I wouldn't even recommend it to my enemies.

("Mother!"), 2017р.

    4.jpg

    Mother! (2017)

a Themovieplace short review and recommendation to the Steemit Community

Hello everyone, I apologize for not continuing this kind of article called Daily Movie Recommendation and it's been two weeks already from my last article where I wrote about the movie Blade Runner 2049 (2017) which I saw in the cinema and that's what I did with the movie Mother! (2017) too. Yesterday in the morning I was at work and I searched for a few minutes if the Romanian cinemas released this movie which was scheduled on October 20th and 3 days ago they did not show it that the movie would run and I was very upset. To my surprise I found that the movie will run in the cinema in Arad the nearest town from where I live and my working schedule was until 19:00 PM and I had two options to see the movie in the hours 20:00 PM and 22:30 PM, and I chose the second option because me and my brother we had to do another hour to the destination and we were not sure whether we were in time or not and it was a good choice choosing the last option. We both got to the cinema where there were already two people and in the meantime have come another six and for a premiere it seemed a very low number. Darren Aronofsky is one of my favorite directors who began his career as a director with the movie Pi (1998) and until then he made a few short movies but the movie Pi was the first feature movie with a very small budget estimate at $60,000 but with a great success of $3,216,970 in the US. I will start to describe this film a little and the reasons why I liked and also I will write below some spoilers in the spoiler alert section and I will only reveal a few things and I will leave you to discover the rest if you decide to watch this movie.

    Short Review(Possible spoilers)

The movie starts with Him who is an acclaimed writer which is in the absence of ideas and struggles to write something but it does not succeed and will use a crystal object in a pedestal with which he succeeds to revive the house which looks very awful after passing through a fire but now everything looks like before and during this time Mother wakes up and she try to find Him.

    mother-2017-1.jpg

A new guest appears in the life of the two who turns out to be a doctor and a big fan of Him and the two begin to talk about the created works and finally Man is invited by Him to stay with them in the house where is enough space, but Mother does not agree with this proposal and reproaches Him that this is an unknown person and it is not wise to let him stay with them. We notice that Man it feels very bad and often crashes but still do not let go of cigarettes and consumes alcohol too and one night Mother finds him in the toilet being very sick after drinking but it is helped by Him to restore his condition.

Another day Woman appear in front of the entrance door and Mother wondering who this woman is and finally turns out to be Man's wife and she realizes she is not well welcome in the house and Mother try to keep it back to let her do what she wants and prevents her to enter her husband's working room where is the crystal too. Here is the time to finish my short review of this film and I'll let you see what's going on and I will continue to say a few things I liked in this movie. For those who expect this movie to be a horror I tell you from the beginning that it will not be the way you want it although it is categorized as a horror movie is a different genre of horror being a psychological one and it's more mystery in it and I can say it's the kind of movies like The Shining (1980), Rosemary's Baby (1968), The Others (2001), The Sixth Sense (1999) and other. I think it was a pretty risky move to put this movie in this Halloween period and I mean about a few countries including my country who launched the film in this period and the advertisement is like for a horror movie and it's not true and it will make many people to hate it. What I really liked about this movie is the acting which was phenomenal especially from the actress Jennifer Lawrence who is likely to win an Oscar again and also the images were great and how the movie was filmed It was something interesting and captivating what I rarely see in a movie.

    Spoiler Alert

I will only say a few things what I think that is about this movie and one important thing is that I don't know if you know that Darren Aronofsky is very fascinated by the Bible and uses almost in every movie made by him things that are found in this book and in this movie presented us the old and the new testament, the old one being more used in this movie and many things can be deduced if you watch the movie being one that will be discussed from now and in the years to come. The film is full of metaphors and you think sometimes that it's a theater play and I noticed that there are times when the society is satirized. Mother! (2017) is a special type of movie who is either loved or hated being one of the most underrated movies of the year and those who want to see something special this movie is a must see.

My rating 9/10(exceptional acting and a very disturbing movie, being one of the best of this year )

  9. Movie Rating Contest #2: Mother! (2017) - GiveAway 100% of SBD from the post revenues@themovieplace3227d

    mother_cartel_jennifer_lawrence.jpg

As I told you last time this contest wants to be accessible to everyone that's why you as a participant you just have to upvote this post and one of the variants which will be under the article. It's pretty easy yes? More detailed, the contest consists of the fact that i will put a movie which is not yet released in the cinema and here I am referring to film festivals as well, not having a rating yet shortly on http://www.imdb.com, and I will add some comments with the rating options under the post where the attendee must upvote one of the options, also he nead to upvote the post. For the contest #2 I thought about putting the movie Mother! (2017) which I honestly expect very much being directed by the director Darren Aronofsky from which I saw some exceptional movies like: Pi (1998), Requiem for a Dream (2000), The Fountain (2006), The Wrestler (2008), Black Swan (2010). Shortly I can say that i seen almost all of his movies except Noah (2014) and of course Mother! (2017) about which I am talking in this article and the movie will have the first release in Spain at the beginning of September at San Sebastián Film Festival and for the contest I will choose September 29th the day of which rating It will count for the winners of this contest. The earnings of the post will be equally divided so you do not have to worry about being the first but you have to worry about your 7 days time in which you can choose the desired option. Let's take a look at some things that can help you to choose the correct rating for the contest :

    • as I said above, the director of this movie is Darren Aronofsky who made great movies and i"m 90% convinced that it will be a very good movie

    • the cast have great actors like Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, Domhnall Gleeson, but also mediocre actors like Michelle Pfeiffer, Kristen Wiig and others and i think they will do well

    • the duration of the movie is 1h 55min being a perfect one, time where the director can describe the story enough, and from the trailer looks like a psychological thriller-horror movie

I will add also the trailer for Mother! (2017), thing that i hope will help you to rate this movie for September 29th.

Don't forget, if this article becomes well-known the chances that the earnings will grow are bigger and if you want to participate in this you can Resteem the post or you can share it(is optional).

    Rules:

    • you nead to upvote the post and also one of the comments from what I will put under the post which will indicate the rating for which you have opted for the movie It (2017) for September 29th

    • You are allowed to opt for one option only, who will opt for multiple options will be disqualified

    • You have 7 days to submit your rating

The earnings will be sent on September 29th when I will announce the winners.

  10. Mother! What a Flawed Marketing Campaign For Darren Aronofsky's Next Movie@readingdanvers3245d

If you’re a horror fan step in. I must admit, I have watched a fair share of horror movies, and this one was on my radar thanks to its star-studded cast. But the combination of the trailer that came out yesterday and the name of the movie made me think about one thing: Rosemary's Baby.

Maybe it’s a misdirect, but so far, I just don’t think so. And another Rosemary Baby's type of movie does not make me happy. At all. But I will give it the benefit of the doubt, or maybe there will be some clever twist. I really don’t want another creepy baby movie. As a woman, I am tired of that trope.

But, with the trailer a new poster for the movie came out. And as someone who really enjoys analyzing movie campaigns and doing movie predictions, these two posters are fascinating.

This is new poster: Mother! New poster.jpg

This is the old one: Mother!.jpg

Why fascinating? Because they only star Jennifer Lawrence. The cast of this movie includes: Javier Bardem (his name is on one poster, but people know his face, he was a Bond villain after all), Ed Harris (now made popular again thanks to Westworld), Michelle Pfeiffer (she’s always famous, but also on the rise again with a role in Murder on the Orient Express and she will be Janet van Dyne in Ant-Man and the Wasp, Marvel everywhere), Domhnall Gleeson (who is now in every single movie nowadays including X Machina, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Revenant) and many more. That’s a lot of famous people. And one not so popular anymore Jennifer Lawrence. Just to remind you, Passengers made just $303,144,152 on a $110,000,000 budget, and she had Chris Pratt to help her publicize the movie. Putting her front and center could turn out to be an unwise decision. Plus, now that audiences seem to blame her for Chris Pratt and Anna Faris divorcing, although there seems to be no basis for these allegations, but that's more negative buzz surrounding her and she already has plenty.

Another thing to consider is Jennifer Lawrence box office numbers outside of the Hunger Games and X-Men (which she now publicly states she returns for only for money). This movie needs to compare to Darren Aronofsky previous big Oscar movie Black Sawn. I don’t see a reason to have such a cast other than to go for an Oscar, for himself. I guess he didn’t hear that Sofia Coppola is really hot this year. Black Swan made $329,398,046. Silver Linings Playbook made $236,412,453, American Hustle made $251,171,807, Joy made $101,134,059.

Passengers is the only movie that came close, because it was a big budget production and it cost a lot a money to make as opposed to the humble $13 million that Black Swan cost to make. Like most actors, she brings in more money within an established franchise. No matter how much she hates it.

It could be that Jennifer Lawrence really is the biggest box office name that this movie has, but this choice could backfire at the box office as audiences are getting tired of her. Either way, I don’t think Darren Aronofsky cares. Just like Roman Polanski won his Oscar for Rosemary's Baby, I think that Darren Aronofsky hopes the same thing will happen to him. I really doubt it.

Mother! Comes out on 15 September.
