Okay I saw this today, Though it has been sitting in my player for as long as I can remember, because I saw a review about it here, somehow I didn't get to see it cos I had other movies I was interested in, well now I have seen it and I can make my own review on it.
So Masters of the Universe is basically the He-Man movie we have all been waiting on since forever, Like, this franchise has been trying to make a proper comeback since the 80s and it kept falling apart, one failed script after another, one cancelled production after another, so honestly when I finally sat down to watch it, I went in expecting to be disappointed, I have seen too many of these toy to movie things flop.
The story follows Prince Adam, played by Nicholas Galitzine, who's been away from his home planet Eternia for like 15 years, the Sword of Power calls him back, and when he gets there he meets that his whole world is scattered, Skeletor, played by Jared Leto, has taken over everything and it's chaos, so Adam has to team up with his people, Teela and Man At Arms, to save his family and basically become who he was always meant to be, He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe, classic hero's journey stuff, but they actually did it justice.
And see ehn, I was shook by how much I enjoyed it, Jared Leto as Skeletor was giving pure villain energy, the kind wey make you forget say na person dey act, cos the skull face and the whole vibe just worked for me, Nicholas Galitzine carried the role well too, he had that balance of being kind of clueless at first and then slowly growing into the chosen one energy without it feeling forced or cringe.
What I really liked was that the movie didn't take itself too seriously. It knows exactly what it is, a comic, larger than life, sword and sorcery type of story, and it leans into that fully instead of trying to be some deep, dark, gritty reboot like everybody's been doing lately, there is humor, there's spectacle, there's proper fight scenes that actually looked good, not the type of CGI wey go make you dey squint your eyes and ask wait, what am I even looking at, the choreography for some of the fights was genuinely impressive, like somebody actually put thought into it instead of just throwing explosions everywhere and hoping it looks cool.
The world of Eternia itself was also beautifully done, It felt big, it felt lived in, it wasn't just some flat CGI backdrop, And the soundtrack, chai, the soundtrack was doing a lot of heavy lifting in some of the more emotional or intense scenes. It added a whole layer wey make everything feel even more epic than it probably needed to be, but I wasn't complaining.
I'll admit some parts dragged a small, especially in the middle where they were still setting things up, and there were a few jokes that felt unnecessary, like they were trying too hard to be funny in moments that didn't need it, but honestly those are small complaints for something that could've easily been a whole mess.
At the end of the day, I get why this movie has been sitting in people's watchlists for so long, cos on paper it doesn't sound like something that would work in 2026, but it actually surprised me, it's fun, it's got heart, and it respects where it came from while still feeling like its own thing.
If you have had this one sitting in your player too, abeg go and watch it, It's worth the time, trust me.
