Have you been to Netflix recently? If you have, then you have most likely seen the title Holidate show up on your front page. This is a brand new Netflix original production, preparing the streaming service for the holiday season. Yes, it deals with Christmas and it deals with the upcoming holiday, but if you want to avoid high blood pressure, I suggest that you avoid this movie!
A perfect sleeping pill...
Of course, everything I write here should be considered as not entirely objective. Do you know why? I only saw ten minutes of the movie! It was so crappy that I simply couldn't bear watching more. And, I actually looked forward to the movie, and I hoped that Netflix finally could create a good romantic comedy. However, this wasn't romantic, and it for sure wasn't funny. If you want something like that, then you should much rather watch The Wrong Missy. It it hilarious at times, and way better than I expected it to be. Holidate, however, just deserve a spot in the toilet.
The problem with Holidate isn't the actual story. It is just everything. From the first scene, you feel as if this is a low-budget B category movie... just a forced production to have something for those who want a movie to watch about Christmas!
I haven't seen the movie, but I will tell you what is going to happen (based on the first ten minutes). The two people who cannot get along well in their relationships or in their families, meet in the store (that is where I stopped watching). The story goes on from here, and they decide to be dates for the holiday, so that they don't have to spend it along. However, they actually get feelings for one another and this all ends up as a fantastic romantic Christmas story.
If it follows the normal procedure there should be a misunderstanding somewhere, which makes them break up for some hours or days, before they get back together in the end. But, since I haven't seen the movie, I am not sure if they included this as a part of the plot of not!
Go to bed, watch The Mandalorian season 2, or The Wrong Missy - just don't watch this one!
I cannot say anymore... this was just so lousy that I who hate not finishing movies, didn't manage to watch more than 10 minutes. Maybe I am wrong... maybe it will turn into a fantastic movie after 15 minutes? If you have seen it, please let me know!
