Recently I noticed a movie on Netflix that ended up in my recommended list, and it was called Man on a Ledge. To be honest, I thought it was a brand new movie, so I was surprised to discover that it was made in 2012. No matter what, the story sounded fine with me, so I decided to give it a try.
Man on a Ledge is about a guy who seems to be suicidal, standing outside a tall building in the middle of New York. But, why is he really there? Is he really going to take his own life and jump? There has got to be more to the story, don't you think?
Man on a Ledge - you have seen it before
In a way, the story is quite standard and normal, and it doesn't contain a lot of surprises. I watched it with someone else, and I could mostly tell them quite quickly what was going to happen for the rest of the movie. Of course, some details were hard to foretell, but the large picture could easily be understood.
However, this movie never came to the cinemas in Hungary (as far as I know), so I was happy to be able to stream it on Netflix. I could easily have gone to the cinema to actually watch it. Even though it wasn't a fantastic movie, it was still more than enough for me to bite some nails, eat some nachos, and have a wonderful home-cinema experience in the midst of COVID-19!
The main character is played by Sam Worthington. He is the man standing on the ledge after escaping jail. He is doing a good job in the role, even though it was nothing at all exceptional about it.
What makes this story entertaining to me is the fact that I dislike heights strongly, so whenever he is standing there looking down, my palms start to sweat, and I can feel it again right now, just thinking about it and writing about it.
While our "hero" stands on the ledge, crowds are gathering to see what is going on, and some other people are working behind the scenes to prove that Sam Worthington shouldn't have been sent to jail at all. But, how can he prove that he is innocent? And how does standing up there help him at all?
That is what you will find out if you decide to stream Man on a Ledge or Netflix, or somewhere else.
Is this a movie worth watching?
It doesn't give you something you have never seen before. But, just like I enjoyed The Commute with Liam Neeson, yet another action movie that you have seen many times before, I also enjoyed this one.
Score: 6.5/10
Have you seen it? How did you like it? I would love to hear your thoughts.
