The Big Short - a short review!

Review by @unbiasedwriter · 1691d · of The Big Short

A week ago, I finally got to stream The Big Short on Netflix. I have been wanting to watch the movie for a very long time, but somehow, I have always found something else to stream, and truth be told, I am spending less time watching movies and TV series now than before. But, finally, I had the chance to watch Ryan Gossling, Brad Pitt, Steve Carrell, Christian Bale, and several other stars in this movie based on a true story about different groups of investors who were able to predict the financial crisis in 2008, and based on their knowledge, they made a lot of money.

What is The Big Short about?

We immediately meet Christian Bale in the role of a financial advisor/investor. He is a very strange character, but he is just looking through hundreds of papers based on the financial movements, and he clearly sees that the real estate business will fall apart in a short time. The entire idea of mortgage is corrupt, and people can get a loan without any security in the background, and it has just turned into one giant business ran by the banks that give loans against nothing.

Based on this, he is advising his company to go to Goldman Sachs and other banks in order to make it possible to bet against the housing market with the banks. Everyone considers him to be stupid, so the banks gladly enter such a trade. But, what is happening?

He is not the only one considering this opportunity, but it isn't easy at all, because even though the market starts to cripple, they still don't get the profit they should have had. What is causing this?

Should you watch The Big Short?

I have got to say that this is a very interesting movie. I really enjoyed watching it, even though I do believe that many will find the movie a bit too "technical" and hard to follow, at least if you don't find economy and trading interesting at all. They have managed to make it interesting in a Hollywood kind of way, but I still believe that many might find it completely boring and not interesting at all.

I, however, really liked it, and it was interesting to follow the characters and the events of the movie, and then even to read more about it all later, considering that it was based on real events.

My The Big Short score: 8/10

If you like money, economy, and financial topics, I really do believe this is one of the most interesting Hollywood movies worth watching.

Have you seen it? How did you like it?

I really liked this movie when I saw it, it's funny. I'm looking forward to the director's next movie, it's with Leonardo Di Caprio and from what I see in the trailer, it will have a good dose of humor.

Entertaining movie, there are many movies about what happened in 2008, I think this one is the best.
