The Letter for the King has been a positive surprise to me recently. It is a Netflix original series that is based on a book written by a Dutch author. It isn't a new story, but they have managed to bring a modern look and life to this book. And my guess is correct, then there will be a second season... after all, the follow-up because it has been claimed to be the best book of its category in the late 20th century in the Netherlands.
Tiuri - the hero of the story
But, let us return to The Letter for the King, a Netflix original series that was released a bit more than a month ago.
What is The Letter for the King about?
A little boy is growing up, and he isn't especially talented. But, he is set to take part in a knight tournament. His father is a respected man, and after some bribery, he gets his son to the final, and to the final challenge of any future knight.
But, Tiuri (our hero) isn't the typical knight hero, so he breaks some rules to help a man in need. That is when he is passed a letter that he needs to bring to the king before it will be too late.
If you have read the story so far, it might almost remind you of poor little Frodo who had to bring the ring to the fire. Well, the comparison is fair, but the story in itself never stands a chance against the original Lord of the Rings.
However, as a short series in seven parts, this is good action for people who want a story about a brave little boy doing his best to save his fellow men.
What makes The Letter for the King worth watching?
I enjoyed it greatly, and it was always interesting to see how the story would develop. The fact that they even managed to surprise me several times when it dealt with the characters of the story, just came as a bigger positive surprise.
Viridian, the bad guy of the story
The series is filled with magic, smaller battles, and chivalry. I like the sound of all of those topics.
What is my conclusion?
So far, I have been mostly positive. And yes, I am positive about this series, because it gave me a good time in front of the screen. But, the ending could have been better, and I wasn't entirely satisfied when the story came to an end.
But, considering that this was a no-name Netflix original series that suddenly just came at me, I was greatly satisfied.
The Letter for the King score.
I would give it 7,5/10.
Have you seen the series? How did you like it? I would love to hear your thoughts. It can be seen on Netflix everywhere, so there is no need for messing up with a VPN to find it.
