The One (Netflix original) review - This was quite interesting!

Review by @unbiasedwriter · 1913d · of The One

It is strange how Netflix has changed my habits when it comes to watching content. Earlier, I watched on all sorts of TV channels, but now I just open Netflix and it feels like almost everything I watch is Netflix content. In other words, whether I enjoy what I am watching or not, actually depends on the quality of the shows produced by Netflix (since it is becoming a portal more and more for original productions).

I have seen quite a lot of original series lately, but I have got to say that The One must be one of the best I have seen lately!

What is The One all about?

Can you imagine that based on your DNA, that there is one exact match that is the ideal and best partner for you. A couple of scientists have discovered this code, and now they are building a database with DNA samples which makes them able to find the perfect match for you. That is what The One is all about. It sounds quite brilliant, doesn't it?

But, how did they find out that it actually works? And in what way will this affect couples already together, if they discover that there is a better match for them somewhere?

That is the main storyline of The One, a Netflix original series made of 8 episodes.

Hannah Ware plays the role as Rebecca Webb. She is the founder and leader of The One, the company helping people find the match made in heaven for themselves. We follow her company, and we are often taken on travels back in time to learn more about how the company came to being, how they managed to test if their research was correct, and this all leads to the struggles of the company in the present time.

What makes The One so good?

I really liked the concept of the series. There are several characters and simultaneous stories, and to be honest, my favorite part is that in which we follow the couple Mark and Hannah Bailey. They are a very happy couple in love with one another, but one day, Hannah decides to register her husband in the register of The One. The results are returned, and suddenly, Hannah discovers that there is a different perfect match for her husband. This leads to frustration and lots of funny incidents, and I truly enjoyed this part of the story. And I must admit, if they ever decide to continue the story, I am curious to discover how this will progress.

The main story is still the one in which we follow Rebecca Webb and her partner James Whiting (who is no longer an active leader in the company), and we discover how they created the company, and the struggles and secrets they have. And as a dead body is found by a diver in a river, the police is also starting to investigate in the case. Meanwhile investigating, the leading investigator is also trying to experience true love with the person deemed to be her true match by the system.

Once again, there are several parts of the story running at once, and I truly enjoyed the different situations and characters.

It is also about politics...

While watching this as a TV series about love and crime, it is also in part about politics and about the power of those with money. It shows how they can make things disappear and come forth, and how they can herass people using social media and other tools.

All in all, I truly enjoyed The One! The episodes lasted for 40 minutes, something I prefer to the 60 minute episodes, because it is easier to watch one episode without having to spend an entire hour in front of the screen.

Will there be a season 2?

I didn't think about this, but the ones I watched this show together with, immediately said that they have really kept the story open, meaning that it shouldn't be very hard to create a second season. Well, they are really true about that, and if a second season will come, then I am really looking forward to see the future of the relationship between Mark and Hannah (my favorite characters in the show)!

My The One score: 8/10

This was awesome, and I enjoyed it!

I'm a little tired of dystopian topics, but I really like The One, as well as the topic of the existence of a soul mate of each of us. This series perfectly deals with the eternal theme that there is no magic formula for happiness and love! Regards.
