A few days ago, I bumped into a brand new TV series on BBC iPlayer named Vienna Blood. I have no clue what to expect, but after watching it for 2 minutes, I had a feeling that it was gonna be awesome... Guess what, I was completely correct!
You might not agree with me, and I do know that a lot of reviewers at IMDb don't agree with me. I don't know why, but I simply love the atmosphere, the footage, the characters, the crimes, and everything I have seen of this series so far.
Is this Sherlock Holmes?
Vienna Blood portrays the city of Vienna in the start of the 20th century. We meet Dr. Max, an Englishman who is studying in Vienna to learn more about human behavior from Sigmund Freud. The Police Inspector has to take on Dr. Max for a while, as a gesture towards the father of Max, and even though he hates the task, he does it because he has to. But, it doesn't take the inspector much time to see the value of Max, and thus, they quickly turn into a team solving strange crimes in Vienna.
I didn't think about it first, but the fact that the inspector has to work with a doctor, doesn't that sound a lot like the story of Sherlock Holmes? And once you listen to the music here which is so much like the Sherlock Holmes music from the Guy Ritchie movies, you just feel as if this could be Sherlock Holmes.
And as you watch the first episode and learn about the killing that has taken place, but without any clue and it all seems like magic... well, this could have been a 100% Sherlock Holmes case. And guess what, I love it!

I love Vienna as well
Not only do I love Sherlock Holmes, I am also a big fan of the city Vienna. So, when I see a movie with pictures from the amazing city, with classy background music, combined with mystical crimes and an awesome detective and a doctor... there are few things that can satisfy me that much as I watch something on TV!
How to watch Vienna Blood?
This series consists of three episodes (hopefully, there will come more later). It was produced by ORF in Austria, ZDF in Germany, and BBC in the UK. Currently, you can watch Vienna Blood on BBC iPlayer in the UK, and there are also rumors going about the series coming to the United States soon.
What can I say? This is a fantastic series, so I guess you will just have to find a way to watch it if you like the sound of what I have just described!
