Here's another Spanish movie that you might enjoy!

Let me start out with the description of its story, as used on letterboxd.com:

Three men go hunting rabbits during a hot day. Heat and talking about events happened in the past make them angry, until they go totally crazy. source

Use your imagination and you will have an idea of what to expect.

While reading that description, I couldn't help thinking of Michael Douglas in the 1993 film Falling Down. A film that starts with him being stuck in his car - in a traffic jam - and where we follow his character, that is slowly going berserk, on a rampage through the streets of Los Angeles. Now I think of it, I can think of loads of films of people slowly going mad (literally and or figuratively), it's a theme that always interests me.

La Caza was directed by Carlos Saura, who - as I just discovered - is still making movies at the age of 86. Pretty amazing, right? This particular film is over half a century old and I was lucky enough to see it, six years ago, in February 2012.

This is what I jotted down back then (freely translated from Dutch):

Interesting, typically Spanish macho movie on the theme of hunting, that is a metaphor for the Franco regime. It beautifully builds up its suspense.

I gave it a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

I'm not sure why I called it a metaphor for the Franco regime but I can tell you one thing, the films that were being made in the decades that Franco ruled Spain - even though there aren't many of them - are often extra interesting to watch.

Unfortunately, I can only find a Spanish trailer with French subtitles. Even if you don't understand these languages, you might still want to give it a look and find out if this is your kind of film.
