이전의 타란티노 영화에서 시기와 상황, 캐릭터들은 변화하고 있었지만 그들은 처벌받습니다. 타란티노의 일관성 있는 주제는 처벌이었습니다. 후기로 갈수록 선과 악의 캐릭터들도 잘 빠져다니며 변화했었지만 변하지 않은것이 있다면 처벌극을 보는 관객이었을 것입니다. 이제 관객도 영화안으로 끌어들여집니다.
영화내내 이어지는 끝없는 대사들과 내래이션, 플래시백은 크리스(월튼 고긴스 분)가 워렌(사무엘 잭슨 분)과는 배경도 성격도 상극임을 보여주고 있습니다. 크리스는 워렌이 반대하지만 도머그(제니퍼 제이슨 리 분)의 거래를 흥미롭게 듣습니다. 이야기를 좋아하는군요. 크리스는 도머그에게 총을 겨눠서 유리한 고지를 점하고 있는데 이것은 결과를 알고 보는 관객이 가지는 위치와 비슷합니다. 관객이나 크리스는 단지 자신을 어떻게 설득할까 하면서 지켜보는 것입니다. 도머그는 인종차별주의와 돈으로 어느정도 유혹했다고 생각했지만 패배자에게 가장 소중한(?) 명예를 건드렸습니다.
처벌매니아(?)인 타란티노 감독이 지금까지 교수형을 아껴온 이유가 밝혀졌습니다. 선과 악도 정의와 불의도 상황과 사상도 모두 설득된 후에 이뤄질수 있는 형벌이 교수형이었습니다.
그리고 전작의 여러 요소들은 이번 헤이트풀에서 모두 등장했습니다. 헤이트풀은 지금까지 타란티노영화의 컴필레이션 음반같은 영화입니다.
