Kartini - A Biography of First Hero of Women's Emancipation

A Biografi of First Hero of Women's Emancipation

source

A few days ago I found a footnote from social media featuring famous Indonesian actresses, Dian Sastro, Acha Septriasa, and Ayushita in one film. In that footage, these 3 actresses are siblings and have done good deeds for the community. That footnote shows that the setting of the film takes place during the Dutch colonial period. I'm guessing it's a biographical film about an Indonesian female figure who during the colonial era fought for women's rights to be equal to men in terms of education and the same right to choose their path in life as men.
That figure is Kartini.

Kartini is a biographical film about a female figure in the Dutch colonial era. The film stars many high-class actors such as Dian Sastro who plays Kartini, Reza Rahadian as Kartono, Acha Septriasa as Rukmini, Ayushita as Kardinah.

This film begins with the story of Kartini's childhood, who wanted to sleep with her mother but was not allowed because her mother did not come from a noble family and was demoted from the first wife to a servant in the Regent's family, her father, Sosrodiningrat.

At that time, to become a regent, a man was required to marry a noble woman. With a heavy heart, Kartini's mother, Ngasirah, allowed Sosrodiningrat to marry another noble's daughter for the sake of her children so that they would receive a proper education in the future.

The film then moves to when Kartini was 16 years old. At that age, Kartini was appointed as Raden Ayu, who would carry out duties in their home, but still within the scope of women. Kartini was not allowed to play outside and could only do women's work such as cooking and studying in her room. However, Kartini was bored. He didn't know what to do at his age. One of her older brothers met her and gave her books from his collection for Kartini to read. Since reading these books, Kartini has come to know that abroad, many women can achieve their dreams, and have become more vocal about things that are wrong and right.

One day, there were Dutch people who visited Kartini's house. Kartini dared to meet the Dutch people and chat with them. It was through them that Kartini found her dream as a writer. Kartini was encouraged to continue writing down her aspirations.

Kartini then faced opposition from her eldest brother and the people around her. His desire to go to school in the Netherlands, following Kartono, was opposed by many people. He was finally forced to marry a candidate for regent whose wife had just died.

Kartini is a Revolutionary Figure For Woman

Kartini was one of the heroes of the revolution for women during the Dutch colonial period. At that time, women were not allowed to be equal to men in terms of education. So at that time, women only had one permitted goal, namely getting married and raising their children. With Kartini, many women began to receive education so that they had the same level of intelligence as men in general at that time.

For a biographical film, Kartini is not a film that is easy to miss, or boring. I like the actor who plays Kartini, she is very beautiful and her image in real life is very suitable.

I have heard stories about Kartini's patriotism since I was a child, but since watching the film I have been really interested in learning about Kartini's story through Wikipedia. She is truly a strong woman and an inspiration to many women.

There is one thing that surprised me. In the film, Kartini puts forward many conditions when she wants to get married. Defying Javanese custom, she said that she was reluctant to wash her future husband's feet and the most intense was her request for her mother not to be used as a servant anymore.

But unfortunately, Kartini did not live long. It's a shame she died at a very young age. But even so, she has succeeded in making a name for himself throughout time through her struggle and work.

Talking about her works, there is one work by Kartini that is very famous. It is 'Habis Gelap, Terbitlah Terang' (After Darkness Comes Light), I was curious about what the contents of this book were.

This movie is available in Netflix, go watch and feel the taste!

Hi, Halo, Annyeong, welcome to my galaxy.

I have so much imagination in my head. Something that I can't achieve as a human and as a girl. So writing is very challenging. Since Junior High School, I have written whatever I want to write. Without skill, I just write what I want to read. Now I have 12th published novels and all of them are romance. Yeah, I proudly say that I am a passionate author, traveler wannabe, and blogger.

Kartini was indeed a great figure who was very influential in our country, especially for women and equality. I am definitely grateful, thanks to him we can now enjoy writing and books. I haven't watched this film, from your explanation it seems quite interesting. Moreover, in this film there are my favorite artists, Djenar Maesa Ayu and Christine Hakim. Cool review. Keep it up!
