Movie Review: Darlings || Alia Bhatt is Superb As Always

Review by @viviehardika · 1421d · of Darlings

Long time no stop in this community and share what I'm watching. During my hiatus from here, I have watched many dramas or films from various genres and countries, all of which have different sensations and are fun to write a review on, but I haven't done it until today.

There are several films that I want to share reviews in this community, but I get dizzy when I have to choose them. So I decided to write down what I just watched last night,

It was a film starring my favorite actress, Alia Bhatt. In this film, he also made his debut as a producer as well, alongside Shah Rukh Khan (yes, you-know-who-that-superstar), and Gaurav Verma.

Let's talk about Alia Bhatt at the end of this article, because I will tell you about her film, Darlings first. The film was only released last August 5 on Netflix, so you don't have to go to the cinema to watch it.

A Wife's Revenge Story

Darlings tell the story of the household of Hamzah Shaikh (Vijay Varma) and Badrunissa Ansari (Alia Bhatt). The two marry for love, it is shown very briefly, then move on to their married life, where Badru gets abused by the temperamental Hamza. The problems were varied, such as when Hamza accidentally saw small pebbles in Badru's cooking, bowls that were not cleaned properly, as well as many trivial things that could provoke Hamzah's anger. It was always repeated so that the neighbors considered it normal. Poor Badru.

Surprisingly, the next day after Badru's terrifying torture, Hamza always apologized and reasoned that he was drunk. This made Badru feel that alcohol was very bad for his family, and he tried to break Hamza's habit. When Badru wants to put medicine in so that Hamza is no longer addicted to alcohol, Hamza finds out, and the violence against Badru is repeated.

The only person who cares about that is Shamsu, Badru's mother. Every time Badru shows his bruised face, Shamshu always asks Badru to report it, but that doesn't happen until finally, Zulfi (Roshan Mathew), a secondhand seller who cares about the family, reports that Hamza is violent. Hamza was finally arrested and jailed for a few minutes because, in the end, he was able to persuade Badru to release him on the guarantee of a promise. However, the unexpected happened. When he came home from the police station, Hamza became angry because he was reported. He also accused Shamshu and beat Shamshu until his nose bleeds. There was a cold argument between Shamshu and Hamza which made Badru confused about who to choose, his mother or husband.

One month later, Badru became pregnant. Before that day, Hamza was diagnosed with a chronic illness due to alcoholism, and he stopped drinking for fear of dying. After Badru's pregnancy, Hamza changed. He's not rude anymore. He apologized to Shamshu and their relationship improved again. The film also shows the happiness of Badru and Hamza. Hamza was repeatedly seen drinking milk instead of the alcohol he used to drink every day.

Until finally Hamza found out that it was Zulfi who reported him to the police the other day. Hamza gets a misunderstanding. He thought Zulfi and Badru were having an affair, so he was very angry with Badru. Violence was repeated. This is the rudest because Badru lost his baby. Yes, Badru miscarried.

It is the lowest point of the defense of a wife who is daily abused by her husband.

On his return, Badru imprisoned Hamza. He takes revenge by torturing Hamza. With his mother, Hamza was tied up and given sleeping pills regularly. Many events finally made Badru gradually have the courage to eliminate Hamza from his life. Even though Hamza begged to come back to him, Badru still refused. The crazy thing they did was tie Hamza to the train tracks. However, Badru changes his mind because he doesn't look like the evil Hamza. Unexpectedly, Hamza slipped and was hit by a train.

This is the plot twist, apparently, Badru's father used to be very similar to Hamza. Shamshu was the one who made Badru's father missing until now and kept the secret with someone who also helped them to kill Hamza. That is Shamshu's dark secret.

Almost Perfect

----

Why do I say that this film is almost perfect?! First I want to say that the plot of this film is very good. the content is very clear about patriarchy and domestic violence that many housewives experience. Unfortunately, many of them were defenseless and continued to receive the attacks without being able to decide the right thing for themselves.

This film seems to be a guide for wives who are victims of domestic violence. As if to realize that the abusive nature of a man or husband will never change. The only way out is to separate from such a person to escape all the pain he will cause, both mentally and physically.

However, there is one scene where it is not executed properly. That was when Badru miscarried. It doesn't have to show bleeding which I think is a bit disgusting, but at least not as common as they do. It was just like, Doctor said that Badru lost the baby, and was done. In fact, instead of a mother who miscarried having to face surgery, she was afraid that something was left in her womb. That's what makes me, how can I just like that? and if it's done right, it will be very emotional and make this film perfect for me.

There are some aspects that I don't mention here. I only focus on Hamza's treatment of Badru. If you're curious, you better watch it yourself.

In terms of acting, the players are very good. They are very natural actors and actresses, especially Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, and Vijay Verma.

I don't care about the criticism this film receives, for me this film is very good.

I gave it 4.5 stars out of 5 stars.

Thank's for reading my blog.

I have so much imagination in my head. Something that I can't achieve as a human and as a girl. So writing is very challenging. Since Junior High School, I have written whatever I want to write. Without skill, I just write what I want to read. Now I have 12th published novels and all of them are romance.

Yeah, I proudly say that I am a passionate author.
