In the previous episode (Episode 2), we saw different creatures, most of them were scary and dangerous, but one stood out: the Ggeomeoksali. It feeds on the living's Yang energy. It kept following Gu-cheon. I am unsure what this little grimlin's role is in the story.
Episode 3 starts with an eerie scene where Saeng-gang was pulling Gu-cheon out of the water, and suddenly, he started choking her. His eyes were full of rage; he was possessed. As we can remember, he was fighting with the ghosts of the court ladies killed by the Queen Dowager.
Gu-cheon revealed that fighting spirits in the Realm of Gwi drain his Yang energy and sometimes cause him to lose control of himself. That's why he doesn't want to fight spirits in the first place.
Saeng-gang also revealed one reason for staying in the palace with Gu-cheon. She was determined to find her mother's killer.
The two (Gu-cheon and Saeng-gang) planned to stage a scene to scare Lady Jang (The head of Royal Court Ladies) into revealing the true identity of the pond spirit. Lady Jang almost caught them, but the Ggeomeoksali saved them.
It was a happy accident. Because of it, Lady Jang revealed the story of the pond ghost.
As the 2 were planning how to cast the pond spirit out of the palace, something unfortunate happened. One of the court ladies was found dead in a well.
Saeng-gang checked on Gu-cheon, she found him soaked in mud, and there were blood stains on his clothes.
Remember, Gu-cheon said when he drains his Yang energy, he loses control of himself even outside the Realm of Gwi. This might be one of those times. He needs to recharge his Yang energy, or else he will keep on unintentionally harming more people.
But despite Gu-cheon's situation, The King is giving him an ultimatum. It was because Prince Yeogan's condition is getting worse.
With no choice, Gu-cheon was forced to enter the Realm of Gwi on his own.
Saeng-gang learned that a jujube tree was just struck by lightning.
She then remembered what Gu-cheon told her and rushed to help him.
In the Realm of Gwi, Gu-cheon confronted the ghost of the Royal Guard.
The fight scenes were intense. The Royal Guard spirit is a sword master, and Gu-cheon seems to be struggling to fight it.
When Gu-cheon was almost slain by the Royal Guard spirit, Saeng-gang came to the rescue. Using Gu-cheon's bloody cloth, she tied it to a branch. In the realm of Gwi, it's a powerful sword.
The spirit was incapacitated and then let out his confession and resentments.
Saeng-gang, with the ability to hear spirits' voices, heard everything.
The Royal Guard spirit was successfully banished. They also retrieved a box belonging to the spirit pond, which they can use to banish it as well.
The challenge isn't over yet. Gu-cheon's soul was lost in the realm. He didn't leave a rope this time, so Saeng-gang has no way of pulling his soul out.
With no other choice, Saeng-gang went to the pond to help Gu-cheon.
What a brave lady. But both of them were faced with grave danger when Gu-cheon was drawn to the well again. Saeng-gang tried to stop him but was surrounded by ghosts.
Fortunately, the real hero of the story appeared again, haha. But this time, that cute face transformed into a big monster that sucks spirits.
Saeng-gang returned to the world of the living while Gu-cheon's spirit remained lost in the Realm of Gwi.
If his soul remains unattached to his body for a long time, he will turn into an Ak-gwi. So sad for a regular person to suffer just to cover up the Royal secret.
**There are a lot of spirit terms in this series which confuse me sometimes, but the story keeps me hooked.
