After a lot of evidence gathering, this final episode finally brought Cupp's investigation into a conclusion I called satisfying because ty face of how killed A.B during the night of the State dinner was revealed. A.B and why he was murdered became such a complicated mystery that took time to solve. Out of the suspects that Cupp gathered, the key suspects, she took all of them round the White House, why careful checking and pointing out details that others had overlooked. I like this episode a lot because they made ordinary moments and seemingly clue that are not sufficient started making sense and connecting together.
What burst my bubble and least expected was the revelation which turned out to be the biggest: White House social secretary, Lilly who looks cheerful on the outside, but she has a dark entitled side towards the White House and everyone in it.
She was the one behind A.B's death. She killed him after he got to know all about her misappropriation of money and misconduct and threatened to reveal it all. They met at the Yellow Oval Room, posined A.B's drink with paraquat, the substance she took from the greenhouse garden, then struck his head while the biggest clock in the room because the poison was less effective. Taking them round the white house, the discovery of the hidden passage in the Oval Room assisted Cupp expose how Lilly hide the clock which she used as the murder weapon and tried to cover up her tracks by sealing up the passage with a new set of wall papers.
What I enjoyed in particular about theirs episode is that the mystery was not uncovered by anyone's confession or unexpected new suspect. Cupp studied each and everyone of them by their words and actions, got observant, calm enough to figure out who was lying because thier stories did not match the evidence of her investigation. This episode also shows how and why other people were in connection with his death even though they knew nothing about it, creating misleading suspicions that made the whole investigation stressful and difficult to unsolve.
Beyond this investigation, this last episode gave Edwin Park, the FBI agent helping Cupp and herself the meaningful moment of growth. Thought both working together never had a smooth relationship, but Park's ability to allow pay attention to details and recognise an inconsistency shows how much he learned from her. Their partnership was what made the mystery to get solved though Cupp was more effective in her job.
Overall, this episode was closed after the mystery in the Yellow Room was revealed, with all the scattered pieces of investigation and proofs brought together. I was surprised to see Lilly as she killer, yet all the clues Cupp brought together finally made it make sense and believable. And to wrap this up, of of the strongest elements of the whole series is the sharp instinct that Cupp has in solving the mystery.
