The title of the movie I would be reviewing today is "Boxing day". After clearing up the space in my phone, I had only two movies remaining and boxing day happened to be one of the two.

Most times, I feel very reluctant to see old movies. This is because I feel that the movie industry upgrades each time. However, Boxing Day skipped my 'to watch' list in 2021 and I'm glad it found a way back to my list after two years.
About The Movie
Boxing day is a romantic comedy (rom-com) film directed by Aml Ameen. The movie is a really captivating one and promises to be worth every second of your time.
Melvin, a renowned British author living in America, returns home for Christmas. He takes advantage of this gathering to introduce his fiancee to his outlandish family. The rest of the events that followed were comic but very intriguing.
Melvin is entangled in a love triangle and we can all attest to the fact that plots with love triangles are usually very interesting ones. Melvin makes life changing decisions–decisions that are never easy to make. He handles his issues better than I thought he would; after some words of wisdom from his parents of course.

Aml Ameen as Melvin

It is amusing to see the director of a movie play a major role in the movie. Melvin is a British author who moved over to America. The movie centres around Melvin and the repercussions of his actions. Melvin is a very charming character who is trying to be the best version of himself. I guess many men his age are faced with this decision. It is a typical trait amongst men who want to start a family in their early thirties
Aja Naomi King as Lisa Dixon

Lisa was probably my favourite character in the movie. She plays the role of Melvin's partner. She is one very loving and caring character who always puts people's needs before hers. Such people are very rare to find in the world we currently live in.
Lisa flies to London to meet Melvin's parents as she is his fiancee. Nothing prepared her for the turnout of events in London.
Leigh-Anne Pinnock as Georgia

Georgia is a famous musician who happened to be Melvin's ex girlfriend. She and Melvin didn't end on the right foot so she had underlying feelings of rage, anger and love for him. As you would expect, she wasn't happy about the news of Melvin's fiancee. However, she handled issues maturely and that was a very smart move on her path.
Marianne Jean-Baptise as Shirley McKenzie

Shirley was a very coordinated and smart character. She played the role of Melvin's mom and adviser. Watching her just reminded me of the fact that mothers are very smart and accommodating humans. Irrespective of how their children act towards them, their love for their kids never dwindles. She was always there to lead Melvin on the right path;just like a good mother should.
My Opinion

This was a really interesting watch. If I'm being honest, it actually beat my expectations. I thought it was going to be a movie about Christmas and all the events that happen during Christmas–hence my initial reluctance. It would have felt very weird watching a Christmas movie in September.
I enjoyed every bit of the movie. All the characters were amazing. They played out their roles with so much grace and precession. It was also a fun ride into the British–Caribbean culture. I love the British accent and the addition of the Caribbean accent just makes it perfect.
It is really hard picking out a favourite scene from the movie but if I were to choose, I would go for the scene where Melvin proposed to Lisa. They made love look so beautiful. .
Recommendation.

Would I recommend the movie to anyone? That would be a whooping yes. If you're a lover of love or if you enjoy watching rom-coms then this movie is perfect for you. There are a thousand and one lessons to learn from the movie. One could learn how to take full responsibility for their actions. The fact that every action has a reaction is also clearly portrayed in the movie. I'm certain you would enjoy watching this masterpiece.
