Hello movie lovers.✨
There are many cartoons that made my childhood really interesting. Judging from the fact that I was always indoors, I consumed a lot of cartoons as a kid. Recently, many cartoons have been remade and the little mermaid is one of such cartoons. The original version of the little mermaid was released in 1989 and it was one of the many cartoons that made me think that being a mermaid was a million times better than being a human. Too bad, my dream of becoming a mermaid was quenched so easily, I bet I would have made a great mermaid:)

When I heard that the little mermaid had been remade, I wasn't so excited. This is because many of the remade versions of cartoons that I have seen didn't come out well so I assumed this wouldn't be any different. Boy was I wrong. The remade version of the little mermaid was released in the month of May, 2023. After seeing the movie yesterday, I felt bad that I wasn't among the first set of people to see it. Let me tell you why.
About The Movie
The youngest daughter of a sea king–Ariel– is a really beautiful mermaid with a great thirst for adventure. She is so intrigued by the human world and its intricacies and as such wants nothing more than to meet and mingle with the humans.
Fortunately or unfortunately, Ariel gets the opportunity to visit the human world. She meets a very handsome prince and things get heated up.

Cast
Halle Bailey as Ariel

Ariel is the adventure thirsty mermaid who seeks to explore the human world to the fullest. Her adventurous spirit reminds me so much of myself. Ariel plays the role of the little mermaid with so much grace and precision.
Jonah Hauer-king as Prince Eric

Eric is a prince who seeks freedom and change. In order not to be locked up and depressed in the castle, he goes on boat voyages. In one of such voyages, things went sideways and this was the first time he came in contact with Ariel. Eric also plays the role of the charming prince who changes the stereotype Ariel has about Humans.
Melissa McCarthy as Ursula

Ursula is Ariel's evil aunt who was banished for many years by the Sea's king. She plans her revenge every single day and when the opportunity comes, she doesn't hesitate to grab it.
Melissa is one very amazing actress. For a moment, I felt she was going to make a few mistakes as the role of Ursula is the direct opposite of who she is but she plays her role splendidly. Her laughter, her facial expressions and precision fits the Ursula role perfectly.
Javier Bardem as King Tritone

King Tritone is the ruler of the sea, Ursula's brother and Ariel's dad. He plays the role of a typical father who just wants the safety of his daughter and nothing else. To ensure Ariel's safety, he does everything within his power.
Daveed Diggs as Sebastian

I didn't think I would ever say this but Sebastian was my favourite character in this movie. The voiceover made by Daveed was extremely splendid. Sebastian plays the role of the "educated crustacean" who is instructed to follow Ariel everywhere she goes. I like Sebastian's Jamaican accent very much and the comic reliefs that he chips in from time to time are just great.
Awkwafina as Scuttle

Scuttle is another very hilarious character and the voiceover behind this character did splendiferously too. Scuttle is one of Ariel's aquatic friends who takes Ariel's well being seriously.
My Opinion
This remake actually surprised me a bit as it was nothing like I expected. It helped me to relive my childhood memory with much ease. The characters chosen to play the roles did amazingly. In general, the director–Rob Marshall– and the whole production team did great.
There was a scene that looked very unrealistic to me though. The part where Ursula grew into a large monster. There was something about that particular scene that wasn't right when I watched it but apart from that, the rest of the scenes were okay.
I liked watching all the scenes with Crab Sebastian but one of the scenes that stood out for me was when he started singing with his Jamaican accent. There were lots of sarcasm and funny lines in the song.
Recommendation.

As expected, there would be lots of singing, dancing and joyous moments in the movie as it is a romantic fantasy film. This movie is highly recommended to those who want to relive their childhood memories or for those who want to learn a thing or two. There were scenes that demonstrated the value of listening, the essence of following your heart and also, the need to keep going even when you feel like giving up.
I would give the movie a 7.5/10 rating. It is a good watch and if you decide to watch it, I hope you love it.
