Ergo Proxy is one of those anime that pulls you in slowly, like a dream you can’t quite wake up from. Released in 2006 and produced by Manglobe, this series is a cyberpunk masterpiece—a haunting blend of philosophy, dystopia, and psychological mystery.
When I first watched it, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But with every episode, I found myself questioning reality, identity, and the fragile line between humanity and the machines we create.

The story begins in Romdeau, a domed city where citizens live under strict control, guided by laws and AutoReivs—android companions that keep society running smoothly. On the surface, it’s a perfect system. But cracks appear when a mysterious virus grants the AutoReivs self-awareness, and a chain of murders begins to unravel the illusion of order.
At the center of this lies Re-l Mayer, an inspector whose search for truth leads her to uncover much more than she expected.

The anime’s atmosphere is dense and immersive. From its gothic-inspired visuals to its use of silence and haunting soundscapes, every frame feels intentional. The soundtrack blends industrial beats with ethereal tones, perfectly matching the show’s mix of beauty and despair.
Even the opening theme, "Kiri" by Monoral, sets the mood—mysterious, emotional, and unforgettable.
