Superman III is remembered—when it’s remembered at all—as a mess. Richard Lester’s comic-book slapstick was mashed together with Richard Pryor’s fish-out-of-water comedy, and the result was tonally inconsistent at best, embarrassing at worst. Fans wanted Donner’s gravitas, not pratfalls and skiing gags.

But buried in that wreck is one sequence that deserves a second look: Clark Kent versus Evil Superman.

Yes… I’m going to do the unimaginable; I’m going to defend Superman III — or at least one scene from it. Fight me.

A Fight in the Junkyard

The scene unfolds in a grimy junkyard, far from Metropolis’ gleaming skyline. Evil Superman — corrupted by synthetic kryptonite — confronts Clark Kent, and what follows isn’t a standard fistfight. It’s a metaphor made literal: Superman battling himself.

Lester’s direction here dials down the comedy, amazingly. The music darkens, the setting becomes industrial and oppressive. Suddenly the movie feels serious, even mythic. It’s Clark versus his worst instincts, his corrupted alter ego: a Jungian shadow given form.

This is almost something Donner might have given us, with his lean towards the mythical image of Superman. It’s amazing that we got this from Lester.

It works much better than you would think.

Why?

• Visual metaphor: Instead of a purely internal struggle, we get the physical manifestation of Superman’s conscience tearing itself apart. Clark straining against Superman is Clark straining against the temptation to give up on morality.
• Christopher Reeve’s performance: Reeve gives everything here. As Evil Superman, he’s cocky, smirking, and menacing. As Clark, he’s desperate, earnest, and quietly determined. It’s a mini acting showcase that proves he wasn’t just a man in tights — he understood the psychology of the character.
• Christopher Reeve’s performance!: Yes, again. Seriously. The man was never given enough credit. I mean, he visually showed us why people would never confuse Clark Kent for Superman in the first film when he was tempting himself to reveal his identity to Lois and he, as Clark, removed his glasses, straightened his posture, dropped his voice an octave, then stood up even straighter and became Superman before our eyes. (See here) Now that is acting. He showed his acting chops again with this Clark vs evil Superman scene.
• Psychological stakes: No villain has kryptonite, no bomb threatens the city. It’s more personal: can Superman even trust himself?

Misunderstood Genius

The irony is that this moment shines precisely because the rest of the movie falters. The goofy tone surrounding it makes the junkyard battle stand out even more. It’s raw, stripped of camp, and in some ways closer to what fans craved from a “serious” Superman film.

Of course, the movie undercuts its own power soon after. Still, that single fight sequence remains iconic. It lingers in pop-culture memory, showing what Superman III could have been if it had trusted its darker impulses.

Legacy

When people rank the Superman films, this one usually sits near the bottom. Yet even bad movies can contain brilliant scenes, and the Clark vs Evil Superman fight is proof. It distilled the eternal struggle of the character — godlike power versus humble humanity! — into a visceral showdown in a scrapyard.

It wasn’t just Superman punching himself. It was Superman confronting the fear that he might not always be Superman.

Me gustan las pleículas románticas, bueno también las de acción pero disfruto ver esas pelis románticas que además te dejan un bonito mensaje cuando la vas desglosando, y The Idea of You fue una peli muy buenaq y entretenida que además te pone a pensar en toda la carga social que nos ponen a las mujeres y que nos hacen decidir entre amor y familia o amot y trabajar, no entiendo porque nunca podemos quedarnos con las dos cosas si las mujeres tenemos muchas capacidades, somos capaz de llevar un hogar, las finanzas, liderar o sea por qué nos ponen a escoger entre dos cosas y subestiman nuestro potencial. Lo cierto es que esta peli cuando salió tuvo bastante promoción y quizás si te dejas llevar por eso y la ves con expectativas altas algo no te podrá gustar, aquí Anne Hathaway desarrolla un personaje interesante como Solene una mamá soltera de 40 años que se encuentra con Hayes Campbell que es el papel de Nicholas Galitzine, un integrante de una banda de chicos llamada August Moon que logra capturar su corazón de la manera más inesperada posible, claro esto cuando lo piensas bien es algo medio embuste porque digamos eso no pasa y también es complicado considerando cuán diferente es la vida de cada uno de ellos.

Toda la historia se centra alrededor de Solene quien al principio iba a ir de campamento sola para cuidarse un poco y desestresarse después de su divorcio, pero al final termina llevando a su hija Izzy y sus amigas a Coachella porque el ex esposo Daniel que es un completo idiota le canceló por trabajo en último momento, lo cual es bastante típico de los hombres en las películas románticas que siempre priorizan el trabajo sobre la familia y después se preguntan por qué las cosas terminan mal. Durante el festival Solene termina confundiendo el trailer privado de Hayes con el baño público lo cual es algo super random pero aja es para que se convierta en el momento cursi de conocerse que siempre necesita este tipo de historias, Hayes que está acostumbrado a que las chicas adolescentes griten por él encuentra algo diferente y maduro en Solene que lo intriga, ella por otro lado no sabe ni quién es él lo cual es como un golpe para alguien que está siempre rodeado de fanáticas histéricas que solo lo ven como un objeto de deseo adolescente.

Lo que me gusta de esta película es que manejan muy bien el desarrollo de la relación entre estos dos personajes que en papel suena bastante ridículo pero que de alguna manera logran hacer creíble gracias a las actuaciones de Hathaway y Galitzine. La química entre ellos funciona porque Hayes está buscando algo real y maduro que lo saque de su mundo superficial de fama y de todo el drama adolescente, mientras que Solene necesita sentirse deseada y viva otra vez después de años de matrimonio aburrido y un divorcio traumático donde descubrió que su esposo la estaba engañando con una abogada más joven llamada Eva, lo cual la dejó con muchos problemas de confianza y autoestima que cualquier mujer puede entender perfectamente. El hecho de que él tenga que trabajar para ganarse su atención en lugar de que ella caiga rendida a sus pies de una vez es lo que hace que esta relación sea más auténtica que el típico romance entre celebridad y fan, Hayes tiene que mostrar quién es realmente más allá de la fachada de una estrella pop y eso es exactamente lo que necesitaba este personaje para no convertirse en un estereotipo más.

Sin embargo la peli tiene algunas fallas y es cuando intenta manejar las consecuencias reales de una relación tan pública y controversial como esta, especialmente cuando sale a la luz y empiezan los paparazis y todo el rollo mediático. La hija de Solene termina siendo hostigada en la escuela por otros estudiantes que hacen comentarios sobre su mamá saliendo con alguien de la edad de ellos, lo cual es algo lógico que pueda pasar pero que la película no explora con la profundidad que merece, en lugar de realmente meterse en cómo esto afecta la dinámica familiar y el bienestar emocional de una adolescente que ya está lidiando con el divorcio de sus padres. El manejo de los problemas de edad también es lago muy superficial porque aunque la película toca el tema del juicio social nunca realmente profundiza en lo compejo que es esto a nivel emocional y psicológico de una relación con tanta diferencia de edad y experiencia de vida, Hayes con 24 años obviamente no tiene la madurez emocional para entender completamente las responsabilidades que vienen con salir con una madre soltera que tiene que considerar el bienestar de su hija por encima de sus propios deseos románticos.

El final de la película con el salto temporal de cinco años me pareció como una salida muy fácil que no resuelve ninguno de los problemas fundamentales que causaron la ruptura en primer lugar. Para cuando él regresa ella supuestamente ha madurado y él también pero la película no nos muestra ese crecimiento, simplemente es algo que está allí y prentenden que uno lo acepte por el simple hecho de que el tiempo ha pasado, lo cual es frustrante porque hay tanto potencial para explorar cómo ambos personajes podrían haber evolucionado y aprendido de sus errores anteriores. La actuación de Hathaway salva muchas de las fallas que tiene guión porque ella trae una autenticidad emocional a Solene que hace que sus luchas internas se sientan reales, especialmente en las escenas donde tiene que confrontar sus propios prejuicios sobre las relaciones con diferencias de edad después de juzgar a su ex esposo por hacer exactamente lo mismo. Para mí The Idea of You es una película que tiene buenos momentos y también buenas actuaciones pero que no logra aprovechar muy bien esa premisa tan interesante que tenía, se queda en la superficie de temas que podrían haber sido explorados con mucha más profundidad y complejidad. Es el tipo de película que disfruté de ver porque Hathaway y Galitzine son muy carismáticos y tienen buena química y esto hizo que me mantuviera interesada, pero me dejó con la sensación de que se perdió una oportunidad de hacer algo realmente especial y más considerando el talento involucrado y lo relevantes que son estos temas en nuestra cultura actual donde las relaciones no convencionales están bajo la lupa de la sociedad. Yo le doy un 7/10 porque cumple como entretenimiento, además que tengo mi lado cursi y me gustan las películas de romance y las actuaciones principales son bastante buenas, pero pudo haber estado mucho mejor.

The whole story centers around Solene who at first was going to go camping alone to take care of herself a bit and de-stress after her divorce, but in the end she ends up taking her daughter Izzy and her friends to Coachella because ex-husband Daniel who is a total jerk canceled on her for work at the last minute, which is pretty typical of men in romantic movies who always prioritize work over family and then wonder why things end badly. During the festival Solene ends up confusing Hayes private trailer with the public bathroom which is super random but aha it's so that it becomes the cheesy get to know each other moment that these kind of stories always need, Hayes who is used to teenage girls screaming for him finds something different and mature in Solene that intrigues him, she on the other hand doesn't even know who he is which is kind of a shock for someone who is always surrounded by hysterical fan girls who only see him as an object of teenage desire.

What I like about this movie is that they handle very well the development of the relationship between these two characters which on paper sounds quite ridiculous but somehow they manage to make it believable thanks to Hathaway and Galitzine's performances. The chemistry between them works because Hayes is looking for something real and mature that will take him out of his superficial world of fame and all the teenage drama, while Solene needs to feel wanted and alive again after years of boring marriage and a traumatic divorce where she discovered that her husband was cheating on her with a younger lawyer named Eva, which left her with a lot of confidence and self-esteem issues that any woman can perfectly understand. The fact that he has to work to earn her attention instead of her falling at his feet all at once is what makes this relationship more authentic than the typical celebrity/fan romance, Hayes has to show who she really is beyond the facade of a pop star and that's exactly what this character needed to not become just another stereotype.

However the movie has some flaws and that is when it tries to handle the real consequences of a relationship as public and controversial as this one, especially when it comes to light and the paparazzi and all the media stuff starts. Solene's daughter ends up getting harassed at school by other students who make comments about her mom dating someone their age, which is a logical thing to happen but which the film doesn't explore in the depth it deserves, instead of really getting into how this affects the family dynamics and emotional well-being of a teenager already dealing with her parents' divorce. The handling of the age issues is also very superficial lake because although the film touches on the issue of social judgment it never really delves into how complex this is on an emotional and psychological level of a relationship with such an age difference and life experience, Hayes at 24 obviously doesn't have the emotional maturity to fully understand the responsibilities that come with dating a single mother who has to consider her daughter's well being over her own romantic desires.

The ending of the movie with the five year time jump struck me as a very easy way out that doesn't solve any of the fundamental problems that caused the breakup in the first place. By the time he returns she has supposedly matured and so has he but the film doesn't show us that growth, it's just something that's there and they prentend you to accept it for the simple fact that time has passed, which is frustrating because there is so much potential to explore how both characters could have evolved and learned from their previous mistakes. Hathaway's performance bridges many of the scripted flaws because she brings an emotional authenticity to Solene that makes her internal struggles feel real, especially in the scenes where she has to confront her own prejudices about age-gap relationships after judging her ex-husband for doing the exact same thing. Galitzine also does a good job of showing the vulnerability behind the pop star facade but her character would have been better off with more development and less of the usual sensitive guy with a guitar moments that look a bit calculated just to make us sigh with nostalgia.

For me The Idea of You is a film that has good moments and good performances but it doesn't manage to take advantage of its interesting premise very well, it stays on the surface of themes that could have been explored with much more depth and complexity. It's the kind of movie I enjoyed watching because Hathaway and Galitzine are very charismatic and have good chemistry and this kept me interested, but it left me with the feeling that it missed an opportunity to do something really special and more so considering the talent involved and how relevant these issues are in our current culture where unconventional relationships are under the societal spotlight. I give it a 7/10 because it delivers as entertainment, plus I have my cheesy side and I like romance movies and the lead performances are pretty good, but it could have been much better.

I have never been big into racing games so it should be no surprise that I have never played the Twisted Metal video game series that debuted way back in 1995. What is surprising is that both my wife and I were drawn to the Twisted Metal TV show.

We loved Stephanie Beatriz from her role as Rosa on Brooklyn 99 and Anthony Mackie from Marvel movies. Combine that with the fact we like a fun action shows every now and then and the show was advertised every 5 minutes when we were watching Mrs. Davis and we decided to give it a try. From the very first episode, we knew we would not be disappointed. Is it the greatest work of art ever? Oh god no. But it is highly entertaining and quite funny.

Although this may sound like a lot of other shows out right now: an adventure in a post apocalyptic world, twisted Metal manages to be just different enough to make it stand out. First, it is more of a comedy than a dreadful, violent slog. Instead it is a amusing, violent romp. The true strength of the show are the characters. Not only is the budding relationship between John Doe (Mackie) and Quiet (Beatriz) fun and entertaining, but the side characters are all awesome as well. Not surprisingly, the best of these side characters is Sweet Tooth, a psychotic murdering clown voiced by Will Arnett. Yes I wrote "voiced" because Sweet Tooth is HUGE and Will Arnett is not. So they actually have a second actor, wrestler Samoa Joe, do all of the physical acting. Because Sweet Tooth is constantly under a maniacal clown mask, the gimmick works perfectly. Although quite dark, this character is very funny... as long as you remember none of this is real. If you forget that, he is the thing of nightmares!

While the first season was a chance for John Doe and Quiet to get to know each other while the audience got to know each of them, the second season is all about a tournament... to the death. The first season introduces a bizarre post apocalyptic world where a select few "insiders" are able to live in a civilization inside walled cities while the majority of people are fighting for survival on the outside. Mackey plays a "milkman" who delivers things between the walled cities. He meets Quiet along the way and they bond.

Season two revolves around all of the reoccurring characters battling it out in the most extreme demolition derby ever created. The only catch is that it seems everyone in the race was taught to shoot by The Imperial Empire's Stormtroopers. They can never seem to hit anything with the machine guns.

And this is where it becomes really unique. My least favorite part of the show is the action. Because the show doesn't have a very high production value, the battles don't look great. Plus there is that pesky problem of so many characters wearing plot armor that it seems no one can actually get hit. It is kind of like watching a WWE "wrestling" match where you know it is fake but it is still kind of entertaining.

The show is really driven by its characters, a simple but fun story, and some decent writing. It is a great palate cleanser after watching something super serious like The Pitt. It also isn't always "destination viewing" as we sometimes scroll our phones a little while watching. So it isn't the best show but rather a worthwhile diversion.

‎I can finally tick this movie off my watchlist. It's been three years. Before I started the movie, I'd seen some snippets and edits on Instagram and saw one of my favourite actors, Dylan O'Brien. And he's literally one of the top reasons I decided to watch the movie. And oh-he did not disappoint me or make me regret. I enjoyed every second of it, it was intense, fulfilling and thrilling. And I got into it more and realize it's from a dystopian young adult book written by James Dashner. ‎ Source ‎Let's go through the storyline, shall we? ‎ ‎It revolves around a character named-Thomas. Thomas wakes up in a metal cage with no memory, rising into the Glade where fifty boys have built their own society. Alby leads them, Newt keeps peace, and Gally distrusts newcomers. Chuck becomes Thomas's first friend, explaining their situation: they're trapped by towering walls that open each morning to reveal the Maze. ‎ ‎Runners like Minho map the ever-changing Maze daily, returning before walls close at night. Anyone caught outside faces Grievers, mechanical monsters that sting victims into madness. Thomas desperately wants to be a Runner but feels drawn to the Maze for unknown reasons. ‎ ‎Everything changes when Teresa arrives, the first girl ever, unconscious and clutching a note: "She's the last one. Ever." She somehow knows Thomas's name, and they share fragmented memories. After her arrival, the sky turns gray, supplies stop coming, and catastrophically, the Maze walls don't close one night. Her suicide was staged. The rescue is fake. They're still prisoners. ‎ Source ‎The movie ends with Thomas realizing their escape was orchestrated. WCKD wanted them out of the Maze all along. As they're led deeper into the facility, Thomas and Teresa understand the horrifying truth: the real test is just beginning. The Maze was only the first phase of something far worse. ‎ ‎And yes, it has two other sequels which I'm in the middle of watching, kekeke. Good day everyone...

So yesterday, I was talking with someone at my workplace and then we started talking about something. About Love at first sight. And that's something I have never really believed in.

Yeah. I have never really bought the concept of love at first sight. The idea of it has always sounded too shallow to me. Some people make it sounds like you can just meet someone, exchange looks and suddenly your heart decides that they are the one for you. That's something that has never really made sense to me because I don't think love can just happen like that. Attraction? Yes. Infatuation? Yes. But love? Come on.

I watched a movie with my mom. In it, a guy was preaching his heart out to a girl, swearing he fell in love with her at first sight. He was all over the place with words, saying things like "From the very moment I saw you, I knew you were the one". I just kept shaking my head because as convincing as he sounded, I already how everything was going to end. Fast forward, the same guy ended up cheating on the same girl he supposedly "fell in love with" the first time he laid eyes on her. And that moment confirmed my belief even more: love is not built in an instant. Love doesn't just happen by locking eyes with someone or whatever. What happened between them was attraction at first sight, no love.

Attraction is natural. I think it is quite easy feel drawn to someone's appearance, or their smile or the way they carry themselves. But that is not love. Love requires time, it requires trust, effort, patience and understanding. You cannot know how patient someone is, how loyal they are or how respectful they can be just from a simple glance.

Another reason I don't believe in it is because I've seen how easily people get carried away by emotions. Many jump into relationships because they felt something "deep" on the first day, only to discover later that they didn't know the person at all. Love is not supposed to be rushed or something that just lands in your heart because you saw someone across the room. I believe it's built brick by brick, through arguments, laughter and even forgiveness. It's better to love with understanding than to be swept away by excitement, to me. Of course, love at first sight sounds sweet and all that, but it blinds people to reality. You're not in love with the person but in love with the idea of them, and then later, you will find out whether what you felt was genuine or just a passing rush.

That's why I believe that love is supposed to take time. It grows slowly and its proven in actions, not in a glance. Yeah, maybe there are people that have found true love in love at first sight but I rather stick to my belief.

Okay, so “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is one of those movies that feels like gossip turning deadly. It starts off with this group of young people—Julie, Helen, Barry, and Ray—having this carefree summer night. You know that vibe of being young, free, and slightly reckless? That’s exactly the energy. They’re out celebrating, living big, and then—bam—on the drive back, they hit someone. A man. Just like that, the night flips from fun to panic. And instead of calling the police like any calm, reasonable adult might think of doing, they make that fateful pact: dump the body, never speak of it again. Seal it away like a dirty secret.

Fast forward a year, and life is not all sunshine anymore. Julie comes back to town, and she looks haunted. You can see it on her face: that weight of guilt, that “we did something terrible” feeling that doesn’t wash off no matter how many showers you take. She gets this creepy note—“I know what you did last summer.” Just one line. Simple. And my heart sank along with hers because it’s the kind of thing that cracks open all that denial. Imagine thinking you buried something forever, and then one sentence pulls it all back up.

The film is then tilted towards paranoia. They have different spirals. Helen is still pursuing her dreams of becoming a beauty queen, Barry wants to take everything in his own hands and be mean, Ray appears detached and calmly suspicious, and Julie is literally falling apart. Then the killings start. This hook-waving fisherman? He is so frightening because he is so unyielding and so quiet. There were no corny monologues, no negotiating, just shadows and that hook that grabbed the light at the only bad times. The pursuit after Helen--oh my God, that one at your elbow. You can feel each step with her, each beat of the heart, and just when you imagine she will sneak out into a place of safety, the fisherman catches her. Brutal.

The thing that actually caught my attention was that the movie relies as much on guilt as fear. It is not merely a question of a murderer pursuing them--it is rather a case of them being pursued by the lie. As such, their choices brought them targets. And, frankly, I was asking myself what would I have done? The agreement seemed so moronic on film, but in that adrenaline, that panic, who knows, would you not make an effort to bury that also? That is my weak area because I understand how easy it is to be a naive teenager and turn into a willing participant in something vile.

It all comes together in the ending on the boat where Julie is confronted by the fisherman. The turbulent sea, the cramped cabins, that hook cutting through the air it is pure tension. When he finally oversteps the mark, it is not relief as much as it is a breath that you do not expect to last very long, since trauma does not sink that easily. The conclusion even preconditions that he is not actually away. The final bathroom mirror nightmare with Julie, the chills, and yet you know they are going to happen.

What makes the movie work for me isn’t just the slasher mechanics. It’s that ache under the surface: the weight of secrets, the fragility of friendships under pressure, how fear warps people. It’s messy and guilty and scary all at once. I walked away from it not just spooked but unsettled in that deeper, more personal way—like it wanted me to admit that we all have that one decision we pray never comes back to haunt us.

Star Trek, throughout its storied history, was always going through a complex interplay between boundless imaginative ambition and the very real constraints of television production, network sensibilities, and narrative convention. Even The Next Generation, widely regarded as the franchise’s most sophisticated and mature iteration, was not exempt from these limitations. Yet, the true measure of the creators’ skill lay not in circumventing these boundaries, but in consistently delivering resonant, intelligent, and engaging content within them. It is against this demanding backdrop that Coming of Age, the nineteen of the first season, stands as a compelling, albeit imperfect, testament to that skill. While far from flawless, this episode successfully utilises its dual narrative structure to explore core Star Trek themes of meritocracy, trust, and institutional integrity, proving that significant dramatic weight could be borne even within the rigid episodic format and content restrictions of late 1980s network television.

The central plot revolves around a high-stakes scenario with palpable consequences for key characters. The USS Enterprise-D orbits Relva VII, the site of the Starfleet Academy entrance examinations. Among the prospective cadets is Wesley Crusher. He joins three other candidates: the human Oliana Mirren (Estee Chandler), the Vulcan T’Shanik (Tasia Valenza), and Mordock (John Putch), a member of the Benzite species. Mordock’s potential acceptance carries significant weight, as it would mark the first Benzite officer in Starfleet. The competitive pressure is explicit – only one candidate will be selected. Crucially, Sandy Fries’ script avoids simplistic rivalry; Wesley demonstrates genuine camaraderie and collaborative spirit with his peers, particularly Mordock. The climax hinges on a simulated crisis test, deliberately echoing the circumstances of Wesley’s father’s fatal accident. Wesley deals with this psychological gauntlet with commendable grace, seemingly passing. However, the objective metrics reveal Mordock’s superior score. Wesley’s gracious acceptance of this outcome – congratulating Mordock despite the crushing disappointment of needing another year aboard the Enterprise – represents a rare and vital moment of realistic, unvarnished characterisation. It directly confronts the audience’s frequent frustration with Wesley’s perceived Mary Sue tendencies, presenting him not as Gene Roddenberry’s idealised avatar, but as a talented yet fallible teenager capable of mature disappointment. This subtle shift was essential early groundwork for the character’s eventual, more credible development.

Running parallel is an investigation initiated by the Admiral Gregory Quinn (Ward Costello), an old friend of Captain Picard, accompanied by the abrasive Inspector General’s office representative, Lieutenant Commander Remick (Robert Schenkkan). Quinn’s discreet mission ostensibly assesses the Enterprise and its crew, though his true, unspoken concern lies with a nebulous but grave threat – potentially internal – to the Federation itself. Remick’s confrontational interrogation style, meticulously dissecting past incidents (a clever device referencing prior episodes), initially paints him as an antagonist. Yet, Schenkkan’s performance and Fries’ writing ensure Remick is portrayed not as a villain, but as a professional fulfilling a necessary, often unpleasant duty. His eventual approval of the crew, even volunteering for service, feels earned. Quinn’s subplot, while unresolved within the episode, is pivotal. His hinting at a deep-seated conspiracy within Starfleet’s highest echelons (a thread later paid off in Conspiracy, reportedly bolstered by uncredited rewrite work from Hannah Louise Shearer) was a bold step for early TNG. It signalled a willingness to move beyond pure episodic storytelling, embracing multi-episode arcs and suggesting a more complex, potentially flawed Federation – a clear evolution from the more self-contained narratives of The Original Series.

Director Michael Vejar, making his sole TNG contribution before becoming a mainstay on Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise, handles this dual narrative with commendable efficiency. Working within the series’ budgetary realities, he maximises the impact of relatively simple sets and matte paintings, particularly during the tense interrogation sequences where his framing and pacing build palpable atmosphere. The introduction of the Benzites stands as another significant positive. Their design – featuring a distinctive breathing apparatus integrated into John Putch’s heavy prosthetics – was genuinely inventive for the era, offering a convincing non-humanoid alien presence. Putch’s performance, conveying intelligence and dignity beneath the makeup, was strong enough to warrant his return in later episodes. Furthermore, the inclusion of T’Shanik, despite Gene Roddenberry’s initial resistance to featuring Vulcans in the new series, served as a subtle but important nod to established continuity, reinforcing the episode’s place within the wider Star Trek universe.

However, Coming of Age is marred by a significant narrative misstep: the subplot involving Wesley’s friend, Jerry Kurland (Stephen Gregory). After failing the Academy exams and dreading facing his father, Jerry impulsively hijacks a shuttlecraft intending to join a civilian freighter. His inexperience promptly leads to the shuttle being caught in Relva VII’s gravity well, creating a brief moment of peril. While Picard’s calm, authoritative guidance during the rescue is exemplary, showcasing his captaincy, the entire storyline feels jarringly superfluous. Jerry, as a one-off character, theoretically introduces genuine stakes – the possibility of death. Yet, his sudden, extreme reaction to exam failure lacks sufficient psychological grounding, rendering his actions implausible and his arc emotionally unconvincing. The resolution is perfunctory, serving primarily as a vehicle for Picard’s wisdom rather than contributing meaningfully to the episode’s core themes.

Furthermore, the episode suffers from a degree of predictability inherent to its early-season context. The audience, acutely aware that Wesley Crusher was a central figure unlikely to depart the series so soon, and that Picard’s devotion to the Enterprise was foundational, could easily deduce the outcomes: Wesley would not be accepted (allowing Mordock’s historic entry), and Picard would inevitably refuse Quinn’s offer of the Academy commandancy. While Quinn’s conspiracy hints provided intriguing future potential, the immediate resolution of both main plots felt somewhat foregone, diminishing the dramatic impact despite the solid execution of the character moments within them.

At the end of the day, Coming of Age exemplifies the early Next Generation’s struggle and occasional triumph in working within television’s constraints. It successfully leverages its dual narrative to deliver meaningful character development for Wesley (a crucial correction to his initial portrayal), introduces compelling new elements like the Benzites, and plants seeds for more complex, serialized storytelling within the Federation’s framework. Vejar’s direction is workmanlike yet effective, particularly in the interrogation scenes, and the script handles institutional critique with a degree of maturity. Yet, the ill-conceived Jerry Kurland subplot remains a jarring flaw, and the inherent predictability of the central outcomes, born of the show’s nascent status, prevents the episode from achieving true greatness. Nevertheless, it stands as a vital step in TNG’s evolution – a demonstration that even within the rigid format and content boundaries of its time, the series could craft episodes focused on genuine human (and alien) drama, institutional trust, and the quiet dignity of accepting defeat, proving that the Enterprise-D’s journey, much like Wesley’s, was one of gradual, hard-won maturity. It is a solid, thoughtful hour that, despite its stumbles, successfully navigates the very "coming of age" its title promises for the series itself.

I have seen very few movies from the Danish industry, but the few movies I have seen are very good. They present the stories of their movies very well. The movie I saw yesterday, or the movie I shared with you yesterday, is also a movie of the Danish film industry. Today, when I decided to keep the movie, I saw this movie in front of me, this movie is also a Danish film industry movie. So I thought to watch this movie and share some things about it with my friends.

At the beginning of the movie, a road inside the desert is shown, meaning a highway in the middle of the mountains. A car is moving along that highway, and there are several people sitting inside the car. The few people sitting inside the car have a tired look on their faces. Or you can say that there is a tension working in the face of all of them. Because they will all cross the border from one country to another, that means they will enter illegally from one country to another. In the beginning, the director presented the beginning of his story in a very simple way. I like it quite well. The movie started in a simple way.

I will say movie because there is no action scene in this movie. After all, I like action movies, the kind of action I expected is not in this movie, I like the work of those who worked in this movie, I don't know these artists very well, but I would say they did well in every work. If you want, you can watch this movie because I hope this movie will be liked by those who like thriller or drama-type movies.

A veces pruebo ver dramas asiáticos, pero lo normal es que lo deje tras ver 2 o 3 capítulos. Esta serie me gusto lo suficiente para terminar sus 10 capítulos. Estrenada hace poco en Netflix. Dirigida por Park Dan-hee.

Sometimes I try watching Asian dramas, but I usually give up after two or three episodes. I liked this series enough to finish all ten episodes. It was recently released on Netflix. Directed by Park Dan-hee.

Sinopsis: Han Beom-woo es uno de los herederos de una empresa alimentaria así como el gerente de un restaurante gourmet. Un día, en su búsqueda de recetas(y robarlas) se topa con un pequeño restaurante llamado Jeonju, dirigido por Mo Yeon-joo, una grandiosa chef pero con dificultades en su negocio. Este encuentro, con su respectivo choque de personalidades, cambiará el rumbo de sus vidas

Synopsis: Han Beom-woo is one of the heirs to a food company and the manager of a gourmet restaurant. One day, while searching for recipes (and stealing them), he stumbles upon a small restaurant called Jeonju, run by Mo Yeon-joo, a great chef but struggling in her business. This encounter, with its respective clash of personalities, will change the course of their lives.

La trama no es del todo peculiar pero es su buen trabajo episódico y con su variedad de personajes, logra uno encariñarse con la historia. Veremos el cambio de Han Beom-woo, quien pasará de ser una persona centrada netamente en resultados y la competencia, en prestar atención al “sabor” que se crea en el restaurante. También Mo Yeon-joo irá dejando su cierta personalidad huraña, permitiendo consejos y alianzas.

The plot is not entirely unique, but it is well-crafted episodically and, with its variety of characters, manages to make you grow fond of the story. We see the change in Han Beom-woo, who goes from being a person focused solely on results and competition to paying attention to the “flavor” created in the restaurant. Mo Yeon-joo also begins to shed her somewhat sullen personality, allowing for advice and alliances.

La serie tiene su dosis de giros, pero ninguno que no puedas ver venir. En todo caso, lo que funciona es la divertida dinámica entre los personajes principales y secundarios. Por otro lado, hay una cierta variedad de competencias y retos que el restaurante Jeonju tendrá que pasar.

The series has its share of twists, but none that you can't see coming. In any case, what works is the fun dynamic between the main and secondary characters. On the other hand, there are a variety of competitions and challenges that the Jeonju restaurant will have to go through.

El otro punto fuerte de la serie es la fotografía. Logra sacar la calidez de los paisajes y de acciones humanas de diversos momentos, además de mostrar la comida de manera bastante deliciosa. La música acompaña bien en variedad de momentos. La actuación es buena en especial de los 2 protagonistas, interpretados por Kang Ha-neul y Go Min-si.

Another strong point of the series is the cinematography. It manages to capture the warmth of the landscapes and human actions at various moments, as well as showing the food in a very appetizing way. The music accompanies the variety of moments well. The acting is good, especially from the two main characters, played by Kang Ha-neul and Go Min-si.

Sin llegar a tener grandes momentos de profundidad ni con grandes mensajes, la trama construida es interesante y divertida de ver, además de que te abre el apetito.

Without reaching great moments of depth or conveying profound messages, the plot is interesting and fun to watch, as well as whetting your appetite.

La hija de Juana Crespo es una telenovela venezolana producida por RCTV en el año 1977. Fue escrita por Salvador Garmendia y José Ignacio Cabrujas, dos figuras literarias y dramáticas muy respetadas. La dirección estuvo a cargo de Román Chalbaud.

Juana Crespo es una madre soltera, humilde, analfabeta, que tuvo una hija, Diana, fruto de su relación con Raúl Moros, un joven que no asumió su responsabilidad al enterarse del embarazo. Juana, con mucho esfuerzo, trabaja limpiando apartamentos para poder dar a Diana posibilidad de estudiar en la universidad.

Diana crece con aspiraciones elevadas, estudia, y es víctima de un intento de violación a la vuelta de clases. Es rescatada por Gustavo, un joven músico, lo que despierta sentimientos entre ambos. Gustavo proviene de familia acomodada aunque él no vive en ese ambiente inicialmente. Paradojalmente, Diana también conoce a David, un detective, quien muestra interés sincero por ella.

Paralelamente, Juana tiene otros hijos de relaciones posteriores, pero pone muchas esperanzas en Diana para que no repita los errores sociales que ella vivió. La historia incluye conflictos de clases, abandono paterno, amor complicado, embarazo adolescente, la tensión entre lo que la sociedad espera de ella como mujer, hija y madre, y la búsqueda de identidad y perdón.

Finalmente, después de muchos obstáculos, rupturas, dolor y reconciliaciones, Diana y Gustavo se reconcilian. Ella acepta su padre Raúl Moros cuando este intenta reparar el pasado. Juana encuentra un poco de paz en sus relaciones familiares, y aunque la vida no es perfecta, hay cierre emocional con amor y perdón.

La hija de Juana Crespo fue una telenovela que combinó melodrama clásico con contenido social. No sólo se trataba de amor, traición o celos; tocó situaciones reales para muchas mujeres, como la maternidad sola, el abandono paterno, la brecha de oportunidades educativas, y los prejuicios sociales.

Las actuaciones de Mayra Alejandra y José Luis Rodríguez fueron destacadas: ella da vida a una joven con voluntad de superación, él interpreta al galán pero con contradicciones personales. Jean Carlo Simancas como David aporta otra dimensión romántica alternativa.

Escritores como Cabrujas y Garmendia le imprimieron un estilo más realista, con personajes que no son “puros héroes o villanos”, sino que muestran sus grietas, errores y aspiraciones. Esa complejidad la hizo memorable.

Fue también un espejo de la sociedad venezolana de la época: los barrios, las desigualdades, la educación como posibilidad de ascenso, el valor del esfuerzo, pero también las cargas emocionales de la ausencia.

La hija de Juana Crespo (1977) es una de las telenovelas venezolanas más significativas cuando se habla de melodrama con conciencia social. Fue valiente al plasmar realidades duras para muchas mujeres, pero lo hizo dentro del formato tradicional, manteniendo la esperanza, el amor y el perdón como motores emotivos.
