A series based on the book of the same name by Marele Day (which I haven’t read).
Seductive and narratively bold, it’s a series I appreciated mainly because I’ve never seen anything quite like it. It moves between gothic drama and gendered allegory in ways that are often (though not always) effective.
The story unfolds in an isolated, abandoned, and time-forgotten monastery where three nuns live. The arrival of a young priest disrupts their fragile balance and sets off a chain of events told in the tone of a dark fairytale, full of secrets, rituals, beliefs, and feminist rage.
Aesthetically, the series is stunning. The set design exudes a kind of decaying sanctity… fading images, flickering candles, and wild vegetation that swallows everything. The costume choices are rich with religious and mythological symbolism. Every frame seems crafted to awaken memories of a forgotten world where fairytales blur and coexist with theology.
Essie Davis , Ann Dowd , and Jessica Barden embody their roles with raw, almost primal intensity. Davis in particular is extraordinary. Her performance deserves to be studied as an example of portraying trauma, spiritual fervor, and inner life.
In terms of theme, Lambs of God is quite daring. It deconstructs and critiques the patriarchal nature of (Christian) religion and institutional power. The women here are not just victims, perpetrators, or saints—but complex beings trying to survive between psychic trauma and loss. The blending of Christian mysticism with paganism offers a fascinating lens through which to explore how women, historically, have claimed and continue to claim spiritual agency from the margins or entirely outside dominant theology.
That said, there are also obvious flaws in the execution…
Narratively, it’s a bit uneven, and there are moments when it focuses so heavily on symbolism and allegory that it detracts from character development. While magical realism serves as a crucial storytelling tool, there are times when the story feels lacking in internal coherence. The shifts between psychological and supernatural drama, between rawness and fairytale, can sometimes feel abrupt and made it hard for me to fully immerse myself in the story.
Ultimately, the series is a dark fairytale—enigmatic and deeply feminine—that invites reflection on faith, autonomy, and the unseen ways in which women resist systems designed to silence them. It may not be for everyone, but it’s well worth the time for those seeking something different.

The Star Trek: Animated Series stands apart from its live-action predecessors not merely as a lesser cousin but as a bold experiment in visual storytelling, leveraging animation to explore worlds and concepts that would have been prohibitively expensive or technically impossible to depict on film. Few episodes exemplify this potential as strikingly as The Ambergris Element, a 1973 instalment that plunges the Enterprise crew into a submerged planet teeming with bioluminescent depths, ancient aquatic civilisations, and ecological peril. This episode’s audacity to abandon the confines of practical effects and embrace the limitless possibilities of animation is its greatest strength, making it one of the Animated Series’ most inventive and underappreciated chapters.
The plot unfolds as the Enterprise arrives at the planet Argo, now a water-world following a series of catastrophic geological upheavals. Captain Kirk, Spock, Dr. McCoy, and Lieutenant Clayton descend in a deep-water shuttle to investigate, only for their craft to be mauled by a colossal sea serpent. The damaged shuttle forces an emergency evacuation, but while McCoy and Clayton are beamed to safety, Kirk and Spock vanish. A rescue party later discovers them grotesquely altered by surgical additions: gills, webbed hands, and other aquatic adaptations. The duo’s memory of the transformation is hazy, and Kirk—now desperate to reclaim command—insists on returning to Argo to undo the changes. Their quest leads them to the Aquans, an enigmatic humanoid species confined to the ocean depths. The Aquans are fractured by generational strife: the elder leaders distrust surface-dwellers, viewing them as invaders who drove their ancestors underground millennia ago, while the younger generation, led by the idealistic Rila, yearn to reclaim the skies. The resolution hinges on a rare sea serpent venom capable of reversing the mutations, culminating in the Enterprise aiding the Aquans in escaping a cataclysmic earthquake that threatens to destroy their world.
Written by Margaret Armen, a veteran of The Original Series (her TOS credits include The Gamesters of Triskelion and The Paradise Syndrome), The Ambergris Element revels in the animation medium’s capacity to visualise the impossible. The episode’s premise—a planet entirely submerged by water—could scarcely have been executed in live action without resorting to hokey special effects. Here, however, Argo becomes a mesmerising, otherworldly realm. The sea serpent attack alone is a masterstroke, its serpentine form coiling around the shuttle with a menace that live-action might have diluted through practical limitations. The Aquans, too, are a refreshing departure from Star Trek’s usual template of advanced, spacefaring aliens. Their lack of technological prowess—reliant on ancient ruins and oral histories—grounds them in primal humanity, contrasting starkly with the Enterprise’s gleaming futurism. The generational conflict among the Aquans, echoing late 1960s societal divides between older and younger generations, adds thematic depth.
Yet for all its ambition, the episode occasionally stumbles under its own weight. Clocking in at just 22 minutes, it packs an overstuffed narrative that strains to balance character arcs, worldbuilding, and action. The Aquans’ society, while intriguingly layered, feels underexplored: their history of displacement, the origins of their mutation technology, and the full extent of the planet’s ecological collapse are sketched in broad strokes, leaving viewers to infer details rather than absorb them. Similarly, Kirk and Spock’s transformation is resolved abruptly, with the venom’s efficacy explained through exposition rather than earned through the characters’ ingenuity. The rushed pacing forces key moments into a frenzy of cutaways and voiceover, sacrificing emotional resonance for plot momentum. Even the animation, while vibrant, occasionally betrays its low-budget origins, particularly in the Aquans’ designs, which lack the consistency or detail of the Enterprise’s more polished visuals.
Nonetheless, the episode compensates for its structural flaws with relentless energy and visual spectacle. The constant shifts between the claustrophobic confines of the Enterprise’s medical bay, the Aquans’ submerged cities, and the planet’s churning depths keep the narrative from stagnating
Had The Ambergris Element been granted the extended runtime of a TOS episode (typically around 48 minutes), it might have ascended to the status of a Trek classic. The Aquans’ societal struggles, the ecological stakes of Argo’s impending doom, and the psychological toll of Kirk and Spock’s mutations all cry out for deeper exploration. As it stands, however, the episode remains a satisfying, if occasionally rushed, showcase of what animation could achieve in expanding Star Trek’s horizons. For fans of the franchise it offers precisely the kind of boundary-pushing storytelling that defined the era’s sci-fi, blending ecological allegory, character-driven drama, and jaw-dropping visuals into a cohesive, if imperfect, whole.
Hello everyone!
We are going to a heartwarming anime world, where there are tender emotional moments, gentle touches of nature and a breath of summer breeze. The anime is called Natsume, Book of Friends, which will definitely win your heart. This anime was directed by a very talented director, Takahiro Omori and the first season was released in 2008. His presentation talent makes the experience of work like "Natsume with Book Friends" peaceful, emotional and full of nature. I hope this anime reaches your heart and you like it.
Story Summary
The person whose journey we followed was Takashi Natsume, a teenager with the power to see Y youki spots or spirits or other supernatural creatures. He was lonely and as a child was neglected due to this unique ability. One day, he heard about the fact that his dead grandmother Reiko Natsume had a list of names of spirits and even created a special book named the Book of Friends. People whose names are listed in this book can be controlled.
Reiko left a book which is currently possessed by Takashi and he is committed to release the spirits by giving back their names. However, this is not an easy task the thing is that there are some Yokai who do not want to give up on the book. Takashi is also supported by the strong Yokai Madara who he refers to as Nyanko-sensei.
Takashi encounters several other spirits along this trip and the spirits all have a story, a memory and a sorrow in their lives. He is very often a participant of the summer festival of the village where fireworks have been prepared, people wearing yukata and food stalls produce a peaceful but touching atmosphere. Others come up in the festival with old memories or relationships that have not been completed.
As the story goes on, Natsume gets to know how to interpret her feelings, how to co-exist with people and creatures in the invisible world. When she sets herself free she also frees herself, with the release of the spirit, of the loneliness, of the sadness and of the unspoken words.
Natsume Book of Friends is an impressive emotional adventure in a dim light and shade of summer feelings and the strong bond between soul and the heart.
Natsume’s Book of Friends-My Learnings, Experiences, and Opinions.
One of the most touching and relaxing anime I have ever watched is called Natsume s Book of Friends" (Natsume Yujin ch). It is not only a story of supernatural, it also has a great message of human loneliness, spiritual bonds, kindness and tolerance.
The protagonist of this anime Takashi Natsume has been able to see spirits or Yōkai due to his childhood. This made him ignored and lonely in the society. One day, he comes to know that his grand mother Reiko Natsume had noted the names of spirits in a book- the one called the "Book of Friends". The spirits are being liberated by Natsume through giving back their names. This way, he gets to know the pain, the connections and experiences about the lives of the spirits.
I can learn that relationships require sympathy as the strongest asset using this anime. Natsume does not judge characters and likes to listen to their stories, just to the extent of trying to approach them even when they are bad. This demonstrates that every animal carries a tale, a pain and an aspiration.
I found my mind in a certain state of peace when I watched this anime. It was the summer light and the chirping of the crickets and the soft-colored landscape, all of it which totaled to a sort of meditation. All of them are self-contained, and separately they comprise a wonderful emotional experience. The fact that this journey is made by the cat-spirit known as Nyanko-sensei makes it both funny and heart-touching to a great extent.
Natsume Book of Friends is a very superior anime that must be watched not only with the eye, but also with the heart. It lacks any quick action scenes, but every scene strikes to heart. To the people who are in need of experiencing the loneliness, memories and the depth of relationships in real life, this is certainly an exclusive experience.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this post of mine.
Don't forget to let me know how you liked the post. Your comment is very valuable to me. Thank you all.
Today I am going to review the film Walking Tall, which, yes, is one of the early films in Dwayne Johnson’s career when he was establishing his identity in Hollywood. And while walking that path, when I first watched this film in Tv—I’m talking about the year 2004—I became a fan of this film right then and there. So much so that I did quite a bit of research on this film at that time.
Movie Details
Name
Walking Tall (2004)
Actors
Dwayne Johnson, Johnny Knoxville, Ashley Scott, Kristen Wilson
Director
Kevin Bray
Runtime
1 hour 26 minutes
Genre
Action, Crime
IMDb Rating
6.3/10
And through that research, I found out that this film didn’t perform as well in the eyes of critics as it truly deserved to. And if we talk about the reason, this film is an official adaptation of a film with the same name that came out in the 70s, and a trilogy of that film was also made, which I have seen. According to that time period, all three of those films were decent, or let’s say average. But yes, the first part was good, and the same story was reimagined here with a new pattern and a good budget.
And then what happened? At the box office, this film didn’t earn as much as it should have and is considered, in a way, a very average film. But still, I’d say, completely ignoring the critics’ ratings, I would place this film in my guilty pleasure category, and I’d also tell you to definitely watch this film at least once. I still have its original CD lying around. Otherwise, if you want to watch it, this film is available for rent on Prime Video. And yes, the Hindi dubbing is also decent.
Moving on to the story of the film, it revolves around Chris, that is, Dwayne Johnson’s character, who, after serving in his country’s army, returns home to find that everything here has become corrupt. Especially his old friend Jay, who now runs this entire hometown, and along with that, the police here—as I said, everything is corrupt. Due to all this, a major incident happens with Chris at his casino. And after that, how he takes responsibility and whether he manages to clean up his town while staying within the boundaries of the law or not—that’s the answer this film will give you. It’s barely an hour and a half long, and whether you should spend time on it or not, I’ve already made that clear.
But now, I’d say you should give your time to this film. Because, as I mentioned, after the 70s time period, when Metro Gold Mayer decided to remake this film, in their view, not only the budget but also the actors changed. And since Dwayne Johnson was a rising star at that time, it made sense for the studio to take a chance, and I can say with confidence that his performance in this film will definitely not disappoint you.
And apart from that, Johnny Knoxville is in the film for comic relief, and as always, his performance—if you recognize that actor—you’d know what I mean. As for Neal and Kevin, they both play negative roles in this film, and their performances are also decent. And yes, the actor playing Dwayne Johnson’s father too. But as for actress Ashley Scott, she’s just okay in the film. The reason being, the entire focus of this film is on the story and the action.
On that note, this film delivers a pretty fast-paced experience, which the film’s director Kevin Bray made with his vast experience. Because at that time, he mostly directed TV shows in Hollywood. But making a film, I think, was a good move on his part. The studio trusted him and managed to produce a good film, which unfortunately didn’t do wonders at the box office at that time. But in today’s date, in my view, as I said, this film is underrated. So much so that many people have even forgotten about this film.
But on this channel, by talking about such films, I will definitely remind you how many such hidden gems have slipped away from our sight. Now, moving on from the film’s direction and talking about other aspects, everything else is average. Because, as I said, the film’s entire focus is on its fast pace, a good story, and action. So, sticking to that, this film definitely becomes an underrated film in Dwayne Johnson’s career.
Now, talking directly about the film’s ratings, for action, this film deserves 3 out of 5 stars for its time period. And when it comes to comedy, the comedy flavor in this film is decent, which, in my view, earns this film a rating of 2 out of 5 stars. And then, talking about drama, when I first watched this film, in my view, it takes 3 out of 5 stars for drama. And as for suspense, there’s no suspense in the film, so zero stars for that.
Now coming to horror and the film, there’s no horror in this film, but there are some thrilling moments that got me quite charged up while watching it in the theater. Because the steps Dwayne Johnson takes, again, I’d say within the boundaries of the law, are fun to watch on screen, and for that, this rating deserves at least 1 out of 5 stars. And when it comes to the mass audience, no doubt they’ll place this film in a single category.
Moving on to the critics, as much as they scrutinized and bashed this film, in their view, this film falls in the B-minus category. Completely disagreeing with them, I’d place this amazing, time-pass film in the B-plus category. As for guilty pleasure, it fits in just one category, but the B-plus category, walking the path of honesty, is absolutely perfect. This makes the film a pretty decent time-pass film in my and your eyes, one that I’d want to watch not just once but again and again.
Now, what’s your opinion on all this? You can let me know by writing in the comments.

My name is Sahariar Kabir Joy. I am 22 years old and currently a student pursuing a B.A (Honours) in English at Northern University Bangladesh. I live in Bangladesh and have a passion for watching and discussing movies & anime, travelling, and nature photography. I enjoy immersing myself in nature and have a love for photography.
The reckoning revolves around a young widow-Grace Haverstock (Charlotte Kirk) who was accused of being a witch.
Set in England 1665, a great plague visited the countryside and took away the life of Joseph Haverstock (Joe Anderson) and many other lives, there was an increase in the fear and superstition in the countryside. After Grace's husband—Joseph died, she had to look after herself and her infant daughter—Abigail. Grace fell into financial distress and her landlord—Squire Pendleton (Steven Waddington) took advantage of the situation, making detestable and unwanted advances towards her. Grace strongly refused his advances, Pendleton saw this as an insult and swore to take revenge.
To get back at her, he framed her as a witch. Due to the happenings in the countryside, it was hard to refute such claims. Grace was soon arrested, imprisoned and had to undergo inhumane and horrific interrogation by a well-known witch hunter—Judge Moorcroft (Sean Pertwee). Judge Moorcroft was an infamous witch hunter who had killed thousands of women, Grace's mother included, after torturing them and leaving them with no choice but to confess that they were witches even when they were not.
Due to the relentless torture Moorcroft meted out to Grace, she started hallucinating and seeing the devil!! but one couldn't tell if she really was a witch or or if she was hallucinating, because of the intense torture. Determined, Grace promised herself to overcome the waves of torture, to vindicate herself and live for her daughter.
The question is…was Grace really able to stay alive considering the intense pain from the witch hunter, the the man who felt insulted because he didn't have his way (Pendleton) or the people who already had the belief that she was a witch??
Her chances of survival were very slim!
Review:
One lesson this movie taught is to be strong and to hold on to the truth without compromising, even in the face of trials. A great movie with the female lead delivering a strong performance
The Witch is worth the watch
8.5/10 stars.

The film begins with a view of space, specifically Earth's orbit and a huge alien spacecraft approaching. It is the year 1914, and we see how, in the Egyptian desert, a translator of ancient texts finds a wall covered with Egyptian figures that seem to have a hidden message. He translates this message, which speaks of a powerful weapon that is activated when four objects symbolizing the four natural elements are gathered around a person, a fifth element, a "perfect" being. This power is used to destroy an evil that appears every 5,000 years, according to the message. While he is mentioning all this, a priest approaches him to try to kill him and his companions and thus keep this information secret. But when he fails, a huge spaceship appears right at the entrance to the temple to bring down a group of aliens who open the wall and take the elements with them, along with a sarcophagus, to bring them back 300 years into the future.

Trama
I barely remember the first time I saw this movie. It was when I was a child, and until recently, I could only remember a few scenes here and there. What I did recognize quickly was the cast of actors, since Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, and Chris Tucker are faces I've seen many times on television since I was a child in action movies. That's why I haven't completely forgotten the name of this movie, recognizing how influential it became in a certain part of my life. However, I'm not saying that it's one of those movies that I would recommend watching right now. The Fifth Element is the worst and at the same time the most entertaining movie I've seen in a long time, so what I'm going to say from now on can be taken as both a negative and a positive review. It all depends on your taste in movies.
Starting with the story, it's one of those that directly mocks any other space and futuristic science fiction story that exists today. The idea of an evil entity that appears every five thousand years to destroy the universe is something that seems straight out of a comic book, and the same can be said about the weapon they use to destroy it. While its premise is somewhat striking, what really grabs your attention is its humorous tone, which conveys a clear message that everything you will see in this film is simply a parody. What happens throughout the two hours of footage is a race against time followed by a chase, after a chance encounter between a red-haired girl and a simple taxi driver who turns out to be a retired ex-military man. For her part, this girl is "the fifth element", the weapon that humanity will need to defeat the terrible evil that is approaching like an "intelligent" space fireball.
Yes, all this sounds like any old science fiction action movie, which is true. But what you end up seeing is a universe full of chaos, madness, shady deals, and mafias seeking to control everything. Despite how striking this vision of the future is, it's actually a somewhat crazy attempt to create a unique story with the best of both genres in one place. However, I believe that both the performances and the excessive use of dark humor and absurd moments detract from what little seriousness this story may have. But don't worry, you're not missing anything new that hasn't been done before or since this feature film: a futuristic, dystopian universe doomed to destruction and humanity proving until the end that it is not worthy of being saved. Now that I think about it, the film also abounds in clichés from typical action movies. One example is its ending, which has one of those usual "Deus Ex-Machina" moments.
Now let's talk a little about the work done by the great cast of actors in this film. Starting with Bruce Willis, we see his younger side, closer to his golden age, playing the typical protagonist who ends up saving the world. This oft-seen version of the heroic, rebellious, impulsive, strong, and tough character suits him very well, especially in this film. On the other hand, we also have a young Milla Jovovich, playing one of her leading roles that became popular due to her talent for kicking ass in unforgettable action sequences. Nothing more to say, apart from her poor performance as the ultimate weapon and the "perfect being". At that time, it seems that Hollywood didn't care about exposing actresses just to get attention. We also have Gary Oldman as the villain of the film, another actor who is quite talented, especially playing antagonists in action films. However, he doesn't stand out as much as expected here, to be honest, even though he does his best.
And how can we not mention Chris Tucker, an actor who, in almost every film he appears in, makes it clear that he is the typical extravagant, funny, womanizing, and super expressive character we are used to seeing. I think here we can see him playing that character at his best. Something worth noting is the complete freedom these actors had in this film, which is crazy. As for the rest, I don't want to talk about the other characters we see in this film because I'd end up sending a message of hatred and bad taste that I'd rather spare myself. I'll just say that both the script and the number of humorous scenes and absurd moments take away all the seriousness from even characters who are supposed to be serious. An incompetent president, an inefficient priest, a realistic US army, and space enemies who are disgusting both visually and in their entirety. I think that, apart from the main characters, there isn't a single character in this movie who isn't absurdly humiliated in some way.
But anyway, despite all this and other details I could mention, I admit that the two hours I spent watching this movie were as entertaining as could be expected. Maybe it's because my sense of humor is broken or simply because I'm a fan of Bruce Willis and seeing him fight aliens in true Die Hard style while romancing Milla Jovovich so that they end up together in the end (it's not a spoiler, it's just a cliché). Yes, it has its iconic scene that more than one person who remembers it will surely know, as it even has an excellent action sequence at the end featuring the Resident Evil actress. But the rest is sequence after sequence of absurd things, jokes, awkward moments, and nonsense. If you're also a fan of american humor and 90s action, then this movie might be perfect for you. Again, this is not a recommendation as such.
Last but not least, let's talk about the technical and visual aspects of this film. For the time in which it was produced and released, it's not bad at all. The static shots, camera movements, captures, and views of the Egyptian desert or the futuristic city of New York are top-notch. There is also the use of practical and computer-generated visual effects (CGI) that look very decent. The makeup, costumes, and extravagant clothing styles that show the futuristic nature of this dystopian world are also worth noting. The same goes for the action sequences, explosions, and sound effects. The soundtrack is not the best in the world, nor does it stand out as much as other classics of the science fiction genre, but it does manage to convey what is sought in each scene. In short, as I said before, this is a cult film perfect for those who want to laugh and just have a good time.
Personally, I give it a rating of 7/10 in terms of the science fiction and action genre.

I just finished watching Netflix's latest expensive disaster, The Electric State and man oh man what a wild ride this thing was. The Russo brothers took Simon Stalenhag's graphic novel and basically turned it into a 320 million dollar playground for robots that look like they escaped from a theme park, Chris Pratt doing his usual thing and Millie Bobby Brown looking way too clean for someone who's supposed to be a struggling foster kid living in the wastelands. The whole setup is basically this alternate 1990s world where robots got sick of being slaves, started a war with humans and now live in some kind of segregated zone called the Exclusion Zone, meanwhile everyone else is walking around with these giant VR headsets that make them look like they are cosplaying as deep sea divers. The movie throws you right into this world without much explanation, just a quick montage of President Clinton shaking hands with Mr. Peanut, yes that's actually a thing that happens in this movie and it's exactly as weird as it sounds. What really gets me is how they took something that could have been this haunting, melancholy story about technology and humanity and turned it into what feels like a cartoon ish with a budget bigger than most worth watching movies. The visuals are absolutely stunning though, I'll give them that, those giant robots wandering around the desert actually look pretty incredible, especially the construction bots that throw refrigerators at people like they are playing the world's most dangerous game of catch.
The movie delops the story of Michelle, who was basically living with an abusive foster dad played by Jason Alexander, when this robot shows up claiming to be her dead brother Christopher, the robot can only speak in catchphrases from some kids show, so communication is basically playing charades with a tin can but somehow Michelle figures out that her genius brother's consciousness is trapped inside this thing, reminds me to Bumblebee from Transformers tbh. The whole plot about Christopher being this super smart kid who finished Einstein's test in hours felt pretty forced, like they needed a reason for the bad guys to want his brain and just went with "he's really really smart" as their explanation. Stanley Tucci plays the villain Ethan Skate, who is basically every evil tech CEO you have ever seen in movies and he is using Christopher's brain to power all the VR headsets in the world because apparently that's how technology works in this universe. The journey to save Christopher involves teaming up with Chris Pratt's character Keats, who's this smuggler living in the desert with his robot buddy Herman, voiced by Anthony Mackie doing his best to sound like a wise sidekick. The chemistry between Pratt and Brown is decent enough, though it feels like they are both just not really trying, Pratt especially seems like he was channeling Star Lord but without any of the charm that made that character work. Brown tries her best but there is something off about her performance, maybe it's the fact that she looks like she just stepped out of a salon despite supposedly living rough in the wasteland or maybe it's just that the script doesn't give her much to work with besides being angry and determined all the time.
What really bothers me about this movie is how it handles the whole robot rights thing like it wants to be this deep commentary on prejudice and discrimination but then turns around and makes jokes about robots arguing over extension cords. The Mr. Peanut character voiced by Woody Harrelson is supposed to be this dignified leader of the robot resistance but he just comes across as goofy rather than inspiring and the whole treaty subplot feels like it was written by someone who has never actually thought about how politics work. The action sequences are where the movie really shines though, watching these massive robots fight with military drones while smaller bots like the postal robot and the baseball throwing robot join the fight is very entertaining. There is this one scene where all the robots are marching to the final battle and it was very intense because of the danger they were in, even though logically it makes no sense that they wouldn't get attacked during this long journey across the desert. The movie also has this weird thing where it tries to be funny but the humor feels forced, like when Pratt's character says "I'm shocked" and it's apparently some kind of code word or when the robot starts playing "Good Vibrations" and somehow that defeats the enemy robots because they hate Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. I kept waiting for the movie to pick a tone and stick with it but it keeps bouncing between serious family drama, goofy robot comedyand big budget action spectacle without ever really nailing any of those elements.
The climax of the movie involves Michelle having to go into VR to talk to her brother's consciousness, which is living in this recreation of their last Christmas together and it's actually pretty sad when you think about it, the kid has been trapped in his own memories for years while his brain gets used as a computer processor and the only way to free him is to basically kill him, which is way darker than anything else in the movie. The ending tries to be hopeful with this whole message about how people should put down their phones and go outside and make real connections but it feels pretty hollow coming from a movie that spent 320 million dollars on flashy CGI robots. There was also this weird subplot about Chris Pratt's character being in love with his robot companion, which ends up in the most awkward way when the robot reveals there is an even smaller robot inside the bigger robot and I honestly don't know what they were going for with that. The movie definitely feels like it had scenes cut out, there are these weird jumps in logic and character development that make you wonder if there's a director's cut somewhere that actually makes sense. Holly Hunter shows up for literally one scene and then disappears which seems like a waste of a good actress and there are all these other big name actors doing robot voices that feel like they were cast just because they could afford them. The world building is pretty inconsistent too, like sometimes the robots are treated as equals and sometimes they're treated like property and the whole exclusion zone concept never gets properly explained, I know I sound mad or just complaining about everything but its just that the whole movie is beautiful and there was this fantasy aspect that could have been exploited so much to make something great, this movie reminds me of Quantumania.
Despite all my complaints, I actually didn't hate watching this movie, it's the kind of thing that is perfect for putting on while you are doing other stuff or want to kill some time, do you put on movies while doing other things on the computer? side by side windows, I do sometimes which is probably exactly what Netflix wanted?!. The robot designs are very creative and my favorite part, from the giant construction bots to the tiny service robotsand the voice acting is mostly pretty good even if the characters don't make much sense. Giancarlo Esposito shows up as this robot hunter guy who switches sides at the end and he brings his usual sauce to the role even though his character story is pretty predictable. The movie definitely has this Saturday afternoon matinee vibe that makes it easy to watch, even when the plot doesn't make sense and the characters are doing stupid things, the biggest problem is that it tries to be too many things at once, like it wants to be a family adventure movie and a serious sci fi drama and a comedy all at the same time and it doesn't really succeed at any of those goals. The Russo brothers clearly know how to make things look good and move fast but they seem to have forgotten that movies need actual characters and stories that people care about, not just expensive special effects and celebrity cameos. If you go in expecting a big dumb robot movie with pretty visuals and don't think too hard about the plot, you'll probably have a decent time.

Following the disappointingly predictable and lacklustre premiere of Homicide: Life on the Street’s seventh season, the series continued its precipitous decline with Brotherly Love, an episode that further eroded the show’s once-sturdy reputation as a gritty, character-driven police procedural. Once anchored by David Simon’s unflinching portrayal of Baltimore’s underbelly, the programme now seemed intent on trading its hard-boiled realism for melodramatic soap opera tropes.
The episode’s primary storyline revolves around the murder of David Ralston (Michael Liechtenstein), investigated by Detectives Lewis and Shepard. The victim’s identical twin brother, Adam (also played by Liechtensein), becomes the central suspect, with the duo discovering that the brothers’ lives were characterised by an unsettling obsession with uniformity. From sharing clothing to meticulously mirroring each other’s appearance, their relationship bordered on the pathological, with acquaintances even hinting at incest. This bizarre dynamic—reminiscent of the surreal, Lynchian absurdity of Twin Peaks—felt jarringly out of place in a show rooted in the grim realities of urban homicide. The motive, as so often in the series’ later seasons, hinged on a romantic triangle: David’s girlfriend, Susan Dehen (Collen Deleney), forced Adam to endure the humiliation of staying at his overbearing mother’s (Phyliss Sommerville) house during their dates. Yet the script’s resolution offered little suspense, as Adam confessed under emotional duress, framing the murder as a jealous outburst over his brother’s “success” with women. The lack of credible evidence or psychological depth rendered the case more clichéd than compelling, underscoring the writers’ reliance on melodrama over substance.
The secondary plot followed Detectives Ballard and Gharty investigating the death of a young man who bled to death after a meth-related altercation in Washington, D.C. The victim’s friend, Dean Stamper (Zach Gregger), revealed the pair had fled to Baltimore to avoid drawing attention to their illegal activities. The case became a jurisdictional quagmire, with neither Baltimore nor D.C. police eager to take responsibility. Enter Detective Joe Landrewsky, a D.C. narcotics officer played by Aerosmith’s Joe Perry—a casting choice so tone-deaf it bordered on crass. Perry’s wooden delivery and lack of chemistry with seasoned actors like Peter Gerety (Gharty) made his scenes cringe-worthy, undermining the otherwise plausible tension between interdepartmental bureaucracy. The subplot’s potential for darkly comic institutional satire was squandered by such missteps, though Gharty’s subplot—his admission of leaving his wife post-recovery from a shooting—added a faintly humanising note. His midlife crisis, however, felt tacked-on, a cheap narrative device to fuel future “soap opera” flirtations with female colleagues.
The episode also cemented Mike Giardello’s transition to FBI liaison, a move met with gleeful vindictiveness from Captain Gaffney, who relished pitting the estranged son against his father, Lt. Giardello. While this dynamic held promise for exploring familial tension and professional rivalry, the execution felt rushed, serving more as a contractual obligation to Giardello’s character than a meaningful narrative thread.
Veteran director Peter Medak lent the episode a polished visual sheen, but his efforts were hamstrung by a script that recycled tired tropes. The main plot’s “twins and trauma” angle was neither fresh nor particularly unsettling, while the resolution—a confession prompted by a melodramatic standoff—lacked the moral complexity that once defined Homicide’s character-driven storytelling. The show’s shift toward prioritising sensational personal drama over procedural rigor was glaring, particularly in the Bayliss subplot, where the lieutenant’s newfound bisexuality and interest in Shepard threatened to reduce the latter to a love-interest pawn. Such contrivances smacked of desperation, as if the writers believed audiences would prioritise tabloid-style intrigue over the show’s original mission.
Brotherly Love epitomised Homicide’s seventh-season nadir, trading its gritty realism for melodramatic clichés and celebrity cameos. While the D.C. storyline briefly hinted at institutional satire, its potential was drowned out by Joe Perry’s ill-advised presence, while the main plot’s soap-operatic twists underscored a creative team running out of ideas. By the time Brotherly Love aired, the show’s slow-motion collapse into irrelevance was irreversible—a tragic end for a once-great television institution.
Hello movie lovers,
Trust you’re having a great day and also enjoying your weekend. My weekend has been super chill so far with little to nothing to do, so I’m pretty much just binging shows and resting.
Today I bring you a review of this series I’ve been binging for a while now. I mean, I saw some part of it sometime ago but I just had time on my hands so I decided to complete the whole series. If uproar a fan of action and drama, this is the right one for you.
THE PLOT
- - -
This series dives into the life of Tariq St. Patrick, a young black man who happened to get roped up in his fathers drug business which was covered up to look legit. With his father dead, his mom is being held in police custody for murdering her husband and Tariq is out there trying to get his mom out of jail.
His father happened to be really dosted but the only way Tariq could claim his trust fund was after he has completed college with a GPA of 3.5. Him getting into college was just by luck and it even came with the requirement that he had to tutor an upcoming basketball player, Zeke Cross. They are paired as roommates and Tariq has to juggle school, tutoring Zeze, making sure his sister and grandma are okay while also trying to find money to pay lawyers for his moms case.
With all this going on, Tariq is out looking for a solution to make quick money and that is how he gets entangled with the Tejada family who happened to be Zeze family and his role was to move drugs up in the school while they moved drugs in the hood. Everything was going good, his mom was set free after she gave up his uncle, Tommy Egan as his fathers killer. But, getting out of the drug game isn’t as easy at it looks.
With history of already moving drugs back in his high school, Tariq is doing great moving drugs in Stansfield with his day one, Brayden who happened to be from a wealthy family yet chose to sell drugs because he just loved to do that. While all this so going on, the NYPD is out there trying to bring down Tariq and anyone connected to moving drugs. But this doesn’t end well for most of these detectives as Tariq always gets away because he’s smart and has one of the best lawyers, Davis Maclean backing him.
Soon enough, everything gets messy with cops dying, Lorenzo Tejada getting out of jail and Tariqs mom in WITSEC. As time goes on, more and more people keep dying all around this drug investigation just to get Tariq and his accomplices in jail. At this point , Tariq , Brayden, their friend Effie and some people in the Tejada family and want out of the drug game, but I guess getting out of the drug business isn’t a one day thing.
Do they finally get to get out of this drug business with targets on their backs each and everyday? You’d have to find out.
MY THOUGHTS AND RATING

I’d rate this show an 8/10 because really, it’s a good one. For a start, I enjoyed every bit of it and that’s why I even decided to come back and finish the whole show. But getting to the end of the series I started to get bored. I mean it was the same routine all over again. Taking out ten old connect, getting a new one, fighting each other and getting back. But yeah, I still think the plot was a good one.
In addition to this, this movie to thought me the importance of family, loyalty and also playing your cards right. I also learnt that anyone can betray you at any time if they have to. People do change, and you’re not that special. So while you’re out there looking out for others, make sure to look out for yourself.
This show is four seasons long and so if you want to see it, you’d need to have a lot of time on your hands but I’d totally recommend it!
Hello everyone, otaku friends, fans of good stories, I hope you are doing great, today, I come to share once again my opinions on the following anime, I just finished watching: Just Because! and uff… what a trip, seriously, it caught me with that mix of emotions so soft that, I don’t know, hit me a lot.. the anime starts with something that throws you off but at the same time gives you total nostalgia: an old school friend returns just before graduating! you feel that emotional avalanche like when you meet someone from the past and boom!, all the memories come flooding back, that first scene was the one that hooked me right away, preparing everything to get us fully into the problems of adolescence, first loves and that bittersweet step to being an adult.. unlike a lot of action or fantasy anime, Just Because! It’s pure drama and romance, the good kind. It’s like a super subtle reminder of how beautiful and complicated normal life is during those somewhat tangled school years. I, who have already gone through those ups and downs of adolescence, the truth is that seeing how they show it so real, so honest, seemed like something fresh to me.
The series is not about epic fights or magical powers; it’s about those small moments, but that feel gigantic and that mark your youth: those confessions that leave you breathless, the silent glances that say more than a thousand words, and the inevitable broken hearts that, although it sounds strange, are the ones that teach you the most. One of the things I liked most about the anime is how it captures the emotions so raw, unfiltered, of school life, it gets into those internal dilemmas that we all have at that age: not knowing what’s going on with the future, the pressure of what others expect from you, and that dilemma of whether to hold on to something or let it go. I remember a scene where the characters are silent, grappling with the decisions that will shape their lives: do they go to college to follow their dreams, or do they go to work and find their own way as adults? That moment resonated with me; it reminded me of those late-night conversations with friends about the future, and how important (and confusing) it all felt.
The coolest thing about the anime is that it feels super real... each character is made with so much detail that they seem like real people, with their real problems, whether it be those nerves when you confess your love to someone for the first time, the horrible letdown when you get rejected, or that vibe of accepting things more maturely... each moment is shown to you with such care that it moves you. I really liked the way they touched on the subject of unrequited love... if you were in high school or middle school, it's sure to sound familiar to you (or maybe just to me, haha) it's not just the excitement of new love; it's also the pain, how you grow, and in the end, having the guts to keep going even if things don't turn out the way you wanted... and watch out for the visuals and the sound of Just Because!, the drawing is simple but it tells you a lot, with those more muted colors that fit perfectly with the vibe of the story.
Every shot seems like a well-done painting, with those soft tones and little details that make you want to pause it and just feel the vibe... and the music... with those soft little pianos and violins, the music is like it takes you by the hand through the whole emotional roll of the characters, there were times when I just listened to it, letting the music draw me even deeper into the story... but what really makes this anime different is that it isn't afraid to show the emotional mess of life, you know? The ending, for example, is complicated, they agreed that it was left half-finished, because it left many questions in the air... others saw it as something more real, about how sometimes we decide things more based on what we idealize than on real connections. I honestly felt like the ending left you thinking: as if the creators were challenging us to think about what it truly means to let go of the past and move on... in a way, that half-open ending reflects the real uncertainty we all feel when starting something new. It left me thinking about my own decisions, about the ideas we have versus the reality of everyday life.
And speaking of decisions, something that's super cool is how it shows you the weight that our choices have on our relationships, the characters are all the time like in 'and now what do I do?', having to deal not only with what they feel, but with the reality of what's coming, of the future, you know? whether when they confess and you get emotional, or when they reject them and you feel ugly, or that kind of sad but beautiful vibe of meeting up with a friend from before... every decision they make, boom!, has its consequences, it weighs... it happened to me that I listened to the dialogues and it was as if my own head was telling me 'come on, go for it!', even though I didn't even know what was going to happen.
That honest way of exploring emotions and how complicated it is to grow up... that's what makes this anime reach you so much and stay with you... there's a scene that really stuck with me: when a character, after thinking about it a thousand times, finally decides to say what they truly feel, that moment felt sincere, honest... not exaggerated or like a soap opera, you know? It was real, vulnerable, and it moved you deeply... I remembered those moments in high school, sitting on a bench after class, heart racing, thinking 'should I tell them or not?' to that special person... the anime doesn't give you easy answers, rather it leaves you with that strange feeling, like sadness but with hope, all mixed up... like life itself, well.
And another thing I really appreciated is that it didn't fall into the typical clichés... yes, of course, there are things that might remind you of other high school romance stories, but it has its own twist because it focuses on the little details, on the subtleties. The characters aren't your typical 'popular boy' or 'shy girl' and that's it; they're people with their dreams, their fears, and that desire to connect with someone. There's something really beautiful about watching them navigate that confusing terrain of first love and almost being adults, where every step they take can be something incredible or a huge setback... it leaves you with that bittersweet feeling that every ending is just the beginning of something else, even if it's not the perfect happy ending.
I'm not going to lie to you and say that the anime is perfect. There were times when I felt like the pace was slowing down, or that some of the characters' stories were a bit incomplete, but honestly, those little flaws made it feel more real. Life isn't perfect, and this anime sort of embraces that truth fearlessly. It's not about wrapping everything up in a bow; it's about capturing what it's really like to grow up: a somewhat messy process, where you don't know where it's going to turn out, and full of surprises. So, do I recommend it? Of course I do! But here's the warning: if you're looking for a super closed ending or a roller coaster of twists and turns, this is not for you...
Better prepare for a more peaceful ride, that makes you think, that will pull at your heartstrings and leave you reflecting for a while after it's over, for me, it was like a reminder of how powerful simplicity can be: a story told calmly but that tells you very strong truths about love, losing things, and that inevitable step into being an adult, I give it an 8.5/10, the story reaches you, the characters are super well-built, and that general vibe, half melancholic but with hope, is very cool, of course, it has its little details, moments that leave you wanting more, but that is precisely what makes it feel so authentic...
It's a series that not only entertains you, but makes you think and feel, makes you take a look at your own memories, at those moments of joy, half sadness and inevitable lows... Tell me, Have you ever experienced that strange, sudden wave of someone from your past reappearing and shaking things up? How do you handle that push and pull between nostalgia and the need to move forward? Have you seen this series yet? Tell me your thoughts. That's all for today's anime. We'll see you in the next reviews. Take care! Bye!
Byebye!
