‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ is a science fiction thriller film directed by Dan Trachtenberg and released in 2016.

The story centres on Michelle, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who after a car accident wakes up in an underground bunker.

Initially disoriented and frightened, she soon discovers that she has been rescued by Howard, a man played by John Goodman, who informs her that the outside world has been devastated by a chemical or alien attack, rendering the surface uninhabitable.

Howard is an enigmatic and controlling character, and his behaviour oscillates between kindness and aggression, which generates distrust in Michelle.

    [Image](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=101022)

Joining them is Emmett (John Gallagher Jr.), a young man who has also taken refuge in the bunker. As the plot progresses, Michelle tries to adapt to her new reality, but her survival instinct leads her to question the veracity of Howard's claims about the outside world.

The tension in the bunker increases as Michelle begins to discover more about Howard and his past.

Through a series of events, it is revealed that Howard has obsessive and possessive behaviour, which leaves Michelle feeling increasingly trapped.

The dynamic between the three characters becomes increasingly tense, and Michelle realises that her situation is more dangerous than it seems.

    [Image](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=101022)

As the story progresses, Michelle decides that she needs to escape from the bunker. Using her wits and determination, she begins to plan her escape.

In an unexpected twist, she manages to get out and is confronted with the reality of the outside world. What he finds is surprising and terrifying, as he realises that the threat Howard had mentioned is real, but not in the way he had described.

The climax of the film takes place outside, where Michelle is confronted with a new and terrifying reality.

The film culminates in an intense action sequence that reveals the true nature of the threat that stalks the world.

‘10 Cloverfield Lane is a film that combines elements of psychological thriller with science fiction, exploring themes of control, mistrust and survival.

John Goodman's performance is particularly strong, bringing a haunting complexity to his character.

10 Cloverfield Lane garnered some notable accolades, including a BAFTA nomination for Best Production Design, a testament to the film's exceptional technical work.

In addition, the film's breakout star, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, received praise and recognition from various critics' groups and genre-specific award ceremonies for her riveting, emotionally nuanced performance.

Commercially, 10 Cloverfield Lane was a solid success, grossing over $72 million worldwide on a relatively modest production budget of $15 million.

  2. 🎬️ Movie: 10 Cloverfield Lane from 2016 🎬️@avatara682d

Hi everyone, just saw 10 Cloverfield Lane from 2016, I think I've seen it before it must have been when it came out in that case, or maybe just a trailer that has slipped into the unconscious.. Wanted to see a thriller/horror, but more thriller this time.😃

This is an intense and claustrophobic psychological thriller directed by Dan Trachetenberg and the film starts with Michelle played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead waking up after a car accident in an underground bunker. There she meets Howard played by John Goodman who apparently says he has saved her. She is told that the world has been attacked by a chemical attack and everything outside is destroyed, and that they must stay in the bunker to survive. Here, the focus is on psychological tension in claustrophobic surroundings and uncertainty throughout the film. And I thought John Goodman delivers a terrific performance as the mysterious survival prepper. Even though the film takes place in a bunker, the film manages to keep my interest with a good script with its unexpected twists and revelations and with a bit of sci-fi. A solid 8 it is for me. Maybe higher for its genre?

    Here is a trailer.🎬️

  3. 10 cloverfield lane. Review film [ENG-ESP]@beysyd993d

    20231009_085100_0000.png

If the earth was attacked either by nuclear weapons or by aliens and you wake up in a bunker where you are told that everything outside is destroyed and the air is contaminated, there is no date to get out of this place but you don’t know if it is true or a lie because the only thing you remember is having an accident. What would you do? Would you believe this version of events or would you doubt who is supposedly helping you?

    Avenida_Cloverfield_10-140786112-large.jpg

Well that happened to Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). She wakes up locked in a room after a car accident. The first thing she thinks of is that she has been kidnapped and even though she is injured she must find a way to get out of the place. When Howard (John Goodman) enters the room and tells her that the earth has been attacked but does not know the details of what exactly happened, and insists that he saved her life after the accident and brought her to a bunker he was building for many years because he knew that at some point something like this would happen. She doesn’t know what to believe, in fact, she doesn’t believe anything this man told her.

Michelle, can’t trust the word of a stranger even though so far he is not violent. While there she meets Emmett (John Gallagher JR ) who is the third person locked in the bunker. Michelle suspects that Emmett was brought there without her consent, but he tells her that he is there voluntarily, since he was the one who built the bunker, has known Howard for a long time and has listened to all his conspiracy theories. Emmett tells him that he saw the red flash in the sky and ran to where he thought he would be safe, coincidentally when he arrived, Howard was about to close and let him in.

With this explanation Michelle is a little calmer knowing that something did happen outside, although they do not know what it was, Howard has theories attributing what happened to the Russians and nuclear weapons. But for Michelle something is not right, she feels that she is being deceived in some way, until through her own eyes, after an escape attempt, she realices that there is something outside and it is dangerous to leave.

    Avenida_Cloverfield_10-974133150-large.jpg

This bunker is fully conditioned and to some extent cozy. These three people spend moments of games and chats in which they get to know each other a little more, but despite this Michelle suspects that Howard is hiding something macabre and together with Emmett they devise an escape plan. Will they make it out of the bunker? If so, what will they find on the outside?

Before reaching its end it has an incredible sequence with very good dialogues and performances highlighting that of John Goodman who does a tremendous job in his character who is paranoid, distrustful, careful at all times and also inspires fear to his bunker mates, but it is not known if it is because he really wants to protect them or because he wants to keep them in there. It is a psychological thriller that engages in such a way that you don’t want to miss any of the dialogues because you don’t know if at that moment you will be able to decipher the answers to the questions and suspicions against Howard that Michelle and Emmett ask each other.

This movie is the second of a set of 3 movies, actually I have not seen neither the first nor the last one and if I had seen at least the first one it would have given me an idea of where the end of this one was going and although during the whole time I was very attentive to the events, when the last scenes arrived they left me with my mouth open, at no time I would have imagined that something so fantastic could happen in a psychological thriller like the one I was watching. It’s as if I had changed movies and now I was watching another one totally different from the one I started watching, I felt very confused and even unhappy with the imagination of the creators, without lying what I thought was that they had gone crazy.

To finish I would like to clarify that it was not a bad movie, it hooked me and all the psychological part was perfect, until the final science fiction part that really seemed to me that it did not fit or maybe it did, but as I said, as I did not know that this movie had a first part, that although they do not have completely the same story nor the characters if they are related to each other, anyway I enjoyed the movie a lot and if it was not for the ending I would not have needed to know about its predecessor. If you saw it since it is not a new movie but it is from 2016 you can leave me a comment with your opinion about it and if you haven’t it would be good to start with the first installment.

    OPINION

This movie has always been in my sights, after a long time I was able to see it, although it was in my sights for years I never knew what it was about, but I liked the cover too much and I wanted to give it a try just for that. My first impression was seeing Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the main character; It's like a crush for all of us who loved Scott Pilgrim vs The world, I stayed to see her in a different role but it ended up catching me when I saw John Goodman; Pedro Flintstones to have a reference, when I saw him I only told myself that I had to finish seeing this.

The story is full of unknowns, waiting to be resolved as the film passes but more are generated as it passes. Three people living in an underground place without knowing each other at all, with a boss who likes things his way, a girl who doesn't trust anyone, a clumsy boy who is there just by luck, this is the life they have, each As they get closer to each other, more mistrust is generated.

John Goodman makes a good villain; or something similar to a villain, I would like to see more movies of him from now on, I got to see him in Ballad of a common man but he did not have a complete participation, only one or two scenes at most, Michelle's character I liked a lot because she analyzed everything and thought things through with time and detail, she did not rush to do the first thing that crossed her mind, if it is true that in some moments she takes them very well the first time but I understand that in moments of terror someone can get to think very fast so I do not see it overactive.

At the end of the film more curiosity is generated with what really happens, some mysteries remain unsolved but for good reason, this film came out in 2016 if I am not mistaken, it is a second part of this saga, the first is called Cloverfield, the second is this, the third is Cloverfield paradox and the fourth is only Cloverfield 4, this I knew when researching about the film and I realized that I saw three of four, all in a different timeline, it is not necessary to follow the sequence, but at least for me that hour and forty minutes was quite entertaining.

In 2008 Cloverfield was released, a science fiction film created and produced by J. J. Abrams. Eight years later in 2016 its first sequel was released, 10 Cloverfield Lane, however, without knowing the connection between one film and the other I decided to venture to see the sequel without knowing where I was getting, the result was not the most satisfactory, however, I was entertained a little, so I'll talk about it.

Year: 2016 Category: Psychological Thriller, Science Fiction. Director: Dan Trachtenberg. Cast: John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Gallagher Jr.

    Plot

A young woman drives on the highway to New Orleans until she is hit by a truck and taken to a bunker, where she is held against her will, there she will face her raptor who alleges that the air outside the bunker turned toxic and if she goes abroad will endanger the life of both.

    Opinion

Michelle, a young girl of whom we know almost nothing, drives to New Orleans after breaking up with her boyfriend when she is suddenly hit by a truck causing the car to leave the road and she falls into a state of unconsciousness. Upon awakening she is in an underground bunker lying on a mat, connected to an IV, and with a leg attached to the wall. Howard, who brought her there, claims to have saved her life by rescuing her from the overturned car and bring her to his bunker, since he claims that the country has been attacked by a foreign military power, or worse, by aliens. Michelle, of course, is not convinced by his words and thinks that he is a madman who has kidnapped her, so she tries to run away until she meets Emmett, who confirms the version of Howard's story.

I must say that the film is a mixture of genres realized in a very abrupt and without any type of subtlety, the film is a Psychological Thriller well done until from one moment to another it becomes in a Science Fiction movie, which always was, but that does not give any true signal for the viewer to confirm, and whose end result ends up being very inorganic and incoherent.

Throughout the film an atmosphere of doubt surrounds the protagonist, who does not know what to think, and who believe that everything could be a hoax, but the risk of know the truth would be very high in turn. Unfortunately, in the final part of the movie the "surprise" twist makes everything lose strength and several questions remain unanswered. I will not say spoilers, but many things established by the script make me wonder if everything I saw really makes sense, if everything was a joke made by the writers who tell us one thing and then they do another, or if all it is the fruit of an incredible coincidence, and that we actually find two separate stories before, but that have been fused by force. Yes, very confusing.

The pace of the film is good, especially in the first 40 minutes, but then there is a kind of transition time that makes the interest of the viewer decay a little, however, it recovers to finally ends in an entertaining way but madly absurd.

The direction work is fine, Dan Trachtenberg, whom I only know from his work in the Black Mirror series where he directed the second episode of the third season called Playtest, did something acceptable but very regular, does not stand out at all. The film script seems inorganic, but it's not bad either, it has several good things.

As for the performances, highlights the performance of John Goodman, which manages to convey the emotional and psychological instability of his character in a great way. Mary Elizabeth Winstead does a good job as a protagonist, but nothing special, is the classic final girl, with the same evolution as always. On the other hand John Gallagher Jr. practically does not do anything, he does not manage to transmit any emotion, his character seems more an exclusively narrative element than a true character.

Despite all its shortcomings the film manages to keep the viewer entertained, in addition, maintains a fast pace and does not pay attention to deepening things that should not be deepened.

If you have nothing better to see, you can see it and then you will get moderate entertainment. Personally. I did not like the ending, but it may like you, so I will let you decide for yourself.

  7. "10 Cloverfield Lane" - maybe the best unfamous mystery movie for 2016? - review@godflesh3007d

"10 Cloverfield Lane" was the most intriguing film for 2016. Nobody knew about its existence two months before going out to cinemas. After a dispute with her boyfriend, Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winchester) left New Orleans, but late at night she crashed. Wakes up tied up in a room that looks like a basement. It soon becomes clear that she and Emmett (John Gallagher-son) are in Howard's bunker (John Goodman), who insists this is the only safe place around because something out-of-the-way happens. For all who think it's okay to read about a movie that they did not watch, I do not want to hinder you, you are free to do what you want, but I have to warn you that the rule "does not read before you watch" Is particularly true for movies like "10 Cloverfield Lane". It is no coincidence that the project was kept secret throughout its production. For personal security reasons, I have to warn you. Major spoilers ahead. So what do we have at the beginning? With a film in limited space. "10 Cloverfield Lane" begins as another "Saw" or "Green Room". The character will get rid of the chains, think of a clever way to distract her kidnapper, and eventually run away. On the other hand, as much as we do not want, we've come to the conclusion that this is something like a sequel to "Cloverfield". Let spend some time on it.

    10-cloverfield-lane_1455993305_342x511.jpeg Image source

"Cloverfield" is a found footage, an alien invasion movie from 2008, which, thanks to its effective advertising campaign and, above all, the skillful hiding of the monster, managed to awaken interest and ultimately provide a stable action-horror. I'm not a fan of movies that rely entirely on a hovering camera, but when it works ("The Blair Witch Project") it just works. "Cloverfield" is a remarkably memorable and debating film that does not rely solely on any individual claim. There are enough scenes in it with the huge underdeveloped monster that looks confused and frightened. The scenes are extremely effective due to one basic quality - the perspective. Using the found footage approach, the film pours a solid foundation of unrealistic realism, upon which the fantastic element stands out much clearer. It's like we're running out of the sewers after the party. We also saw this in the great Chronicles. Our reaction is "this should not happen," just like in real life when we see a magician levitate or walk on water. "10 Cloverfield Lane" is shot as a proper movie. Stable camera, well-prepared lighting and colors, everything looks like a standard movie. Besides stylistically, the film differs from its predecessor and structure. The action develops almost entirely in a confined space, no one runs around the city, there are no extraterrestrial monsters trapping buildings around. If there are no aliens, then the main effect of the first film is the monster hiding. Or? As the plaque inscription says, monsters come in different forms. At first we are led to believe that Howard is the real monster, and everything he says is a lie that seeks to force them not to go out. Even if it is not a lie, it is the fruit of his conspiracy brain, which further exacerbates his personal drama and makes the character interesting and believable. And how good is John Goodman's character? How cleverly avoids all the clichés that invariably follow the conspirators in other films (for example, in Emery's, it is always a cartoon).

"10 Cloverfield Lane" is not a movie about whether there are aliens outside or not. This is a movie about paranoia, about the monsters in our brains. All in all, Michelle does not know if Howard is lying or telling the truth. An illustrative example of what conspiracy is doing with logical thinking. When the points can easily be linked, one loses ground under their feet and can easily succumb to the temptation to believe. After all, everything is possible. Why there is no Third World War and outside the air is really dirty. Or vice versa - this person kidnapped me. The good thing about this is that the movie does not rely on an elementary turn that just has a shocking effect. The center is the state of insecurity and fear. So it was in Oliver Stone's "J.F.K". I do not believe in the conspiracy, but the character's obsession is captured so precisely that it becomes a creation of art. Above all, "10 Cloverfield Lane" is a movie. We have only three characters (and the voice of Bradley Cooper as Michelle's fiancé). Exposure at the beginning is great, we understand in a very unobtrusive way enough for all of the characters. So it seemed to me superfluous to use additional layers of information, especially in the conversation between Michelle and Emmett in the middle of the film. Another thing that would upset some is all the practical jerks Michelle uses in the bunker or her own escape from Howard. People who like to indulge in these things have no pleasure. "But how can he do that, but how can she not remember, that's not the case in real life and so on." And here everything is so well thought out and found from the start. Michel wants to be a seamstress, her house has model drawings, and so on ...After we noted two (possible) minuses, we can go back to the lubricating amount of the film's qualities. Did we notice that this is a debut? No wonder if we have forgotten, because "10 Cloverfield Lane" does not look like one. Directed by Dan Traktenberg, whose short film portal you might have watched. We are sure that there are not a few people who would give their right hand for such a strong debut, although it is worth mentioning that Traktenberg did not act alone. The film's script was revised by Damien Chazel, who was also supposed to be directing, but eventually received a "Whiplash" subsidy and disappeared to shoot the crazy drummer.

In addition to this, the producer is J. J. Abrams, who continues to keep alive Spielberg's spark. In the "10 Cloverfield Lane," especially in the last part, the spirit of the 80's is felt. Visually reminds of the wonderful "Super 8" and "War of the Worlds," but uses quite different ingredients. It blends the fear of aliens and modern conspiracy beliefs and almost eliminates the boundary between the two films we watch simultaneously. The third action literally raises the hopper into the air. Restrictions are removed, fears are real. Here some will have a problem with how quickly things are escalating, but the need for a culmination and a pay off was too strong, and if all the action developed only in the bunker, we would have seen a completely different thing. To be honest, these films, which have balls to experiment, mix genres, are much less common. And here we go back to that screaming effect of the first film. What the hell is that? The realism of the first half contrasts with the final scenes and makes our eyes pop out. I really liked "10 Cloverfield Lane" (if it was not clear of my exaggerated tone). Through it I remembered how rarely recently we have seen truly brave films. So cleverly designed that the stitches are not visible, respectful of the past and preserved their own identity. I highly recommend. I have been thinking for three days already, reading and looking for any Master's ego and references. It's a rare thing to happen to me.
