Lately I've been unconsciously drawn to reading and watching stuff with dark themes and romance, and I noticed that it somehow affected my mood. I'm really the type of reader who usually gets affected by the stuff I'm immersed in. So to break this melancholic cycle of mine, I decided to search for some lighthearted anime that will make me believe again in the goodness of life, but I'm a really picky viewer, so I basically ended up wasting a few hours of browsing for recommendations that didn't really match my preference. After browsing and idling, I just decided to stop and just do first my household chores. I washed, cleaned, and arranged my stuff, and that's when I came across a certain box full of anime pictures I printed way back during my high school years! And that's where I found the anime that I'm going to watch!

    IMG_20240906_222826.jpg

Enough with the sentiments; now I'll share with you a lighthearted high school romance that I just finished recently. So be with me as I share with you a brief peek of the ever-colorful romantic journey of the four high school boys in Nijiro Days.

    About the Anime

    IMG_20240906_222449.jpg

Nijiro Days (Rainbow Days) is a shoujo anime that premiered in the winter of 2016. It aired from January 10, 2016 to June 26, 2016, and it was animated by Production Reed. Its genres are comedy and romance. Since the main characters are high schoolers, the main theme mostly revolves around school. In total, it has 24 episodes plus a special episode, and it's an adaptation of a manga written and illustrated by Minami Mizuno.

    IMG_20240906_222511.jpg

So it started with our main lead getting dumped on Christmas Eve. Natsuki sat under the big Christmas tree moping and sniffling over his recent break-up experience when a girl dressed up in Santa offered him a package of tissue. Enthralled by that encounter, he immediately concluded that he's in love again. When the Christmas break ended, Natsuki returned to school, and there he found that Anna Kobayakawa, the girl that he's in love with, was his schoolmate! After seeing her and the muffler he gave her, Natsuki was convinced that it was fate that somehow brought them together, and with that, he would do anything to get closer to Anna.

    IMG_20240906_222535.jpg

However, things will not go the way he expected them to because of his supportive friends who constantly meddle in his romantic advancements—but those meddlesome friends are also bound to face romantic endeavors of their own. From the overconfident playboy Tomoya Matsunaga, weird sadist Keiichi Katakura, aloof otaku Tsuyoshi Naoe, up to our very own delusional, hopeless romantic boy Natsuki Hashiba—all of them will experience different romantic journeys. Together, these high school boys will navigate their way towards their daily struggles as students as well as their struggles in their romantic relationships.

    IMG_20240906_222648.jpg

After watching the last episode, the ending didn't sink into me immediately—I mean, I can't just believe that it ended that way. The start was quite promising, but for me, its ending wasn't that satisfying. Even though I'm not fond of romance, I was really expecting somewhat a more resolved denouement for those romances, but it turns out that it's just really the start of something new type of ending. I wanted to rant on how dissatisfied I am because I'm definitely expecting an improvement in their relationships. Yeah, there's a slight improvement, but I'm really expecting a much more definite one!

    IMG_20240906_222708.jpg

As for the character improvements, I like how some of them really improved. The episodes were brief (it's just 13 minutes per episode!), but I'm glad that the story line was able to gradually show some improvements in the characters that needed it. The plot was, I guess, the pretty generic romance story where a guy gets a girl—and thank God it's like that because I'm really not into harem now. Further, for me, there isn't that much conflict in the story line, and since there isn't that much conflict, then there's definitely not much drama. This somehow was refreshing for me because it's been ages since I watched an anime without a dark plot or heavy drama. It was really a lighthearted romance with cute and wholesome interactions—which I somehow enjoyed watching.

    IMG_20240906_222726.jpg

Its artstyle may not be that unique, but it's definitely cute, and it matches well with its easygoing vibes. The main characters were really drawn in an attractive manner that would really attract shoujo fangirls who were into boy group tropes. Seeing the four of them really reminds me of the four main boys in Hana Yori Dango because both of these boy groups were known to girls in their school (but the F4 of Hana Yori Dango was definitely more charismatic for me—and definitely toxic XD). They're more like the mellow versions of the old F4. Further, I noticed that the anime uses a soft warm and light color palette, which suits well with its lighthearted theme. The animation was pretty decent, and although not that smooth, I like how they portrayed those romantic scenes in a way that would really make the viewers feel how it is to be young and in love again.

    IMG_20240906_222741.jpg

The soundtrack did also complement the anime because it isn't heavy or too upbeat; it's just enough to make you feel collywobbles. The voice actors did a good job in portraying the characters' voices. I really felt various emotions: the happiness, the thrill, the longing, and the jauntiness of the characters. It's nice to feel those light emotions again. Overall, my personal rating for this anime is 7/10. Like I said, I'm not really that satisfied with how it ended, but I guess they ended it the way because they were anticipating a second season (?). If there's a second season, I'm really looking forward to the relationship improvements (especially Mattsun and secret!).

    IMG_20240906_222756.jpg

The ending wasn't rushed, but it certainly was made to stir a sense of longing for season two in the viewers. It wasn't exactly a bad ending, but for me it was quite anticlimactic because I'm really expecting something more memorable and moving season-end episode. The manga is already finished, and I'm really curious on what happened to my OTP. I really wanted to give myself a peace of mind, so I'll definitely check its manga later. So if you're up for a lighthearted, good-humored, and wholesome romance anime, then you really need to try watching Nijiro Days.   Before I end this review, I gladly share with you its second opening, so—

  2. Review: 91 Days | A Mafia Anime with a Classic Movie Aesthetic [ENG-ESP]@jessuses1381686d

Hello to all anime lovers friends on this occasion, I hope you are very well... Today I will talk about a little gem of anime that I consider that has gone very unnoticed, and for me deserves much more recognition. This series is very different from the series that surely many of us are used to, it is the anime: 91 Days, this series is set in the dry law in the United States, and immerses us in a world full of mafia, revenge and betrayal, which will surely keep you intrigued and glued to the screen from the first chapter ... The main story follows Angelo Lagusa, who after witnessing the brutal murder of his family at the hands of the Vanetti mafia, decides to return seven years later to his hometown with a new alias, calling himself Avilio Bruno, and he intends to carry out a revenge to make this family of gangsters suffer and pay for what they did to him.
Avilio will try to infiltrate this mafia family in order to destroy it from the inside, the first thing that captivates in this anime is the whole atmosphere... the production team simply did a great job recreating the aesthetics of the 20's in America, everything looks very typical of the old mafia movies, from the cars to the clothes, the architecture, the music, all this transmits a lot of authenticity... The somber tone and muted color palette also reinforce all this feeling of constant danger and hopelessness, this serves a lot to convey to the viewer that this series is something different, it's something much more mature and serious...

The opening is amazing, I think it goes perfectly with all the aesthetics and setting of this anime.. the song Signal is a piece that is able to move you, if you read the lyrics, it is much deeper than you would think.. surely it will be a song that you will want to listen to many times. As for the characters, this series offers a quite complex and nuanced cast, Avilio is a very interesting protagonist.. his personality is cold and calculating.. but, in some moments you can appreciate flashes of vulnerability that make him question his own path.. his relationship with Nero Vanetti, who is one of his revenge targets, is particularly interesting, they end up developing a friendship.. although we know that things are not so simple, as there is a lot of tension within this whole family... other characters that I also found interesting was Fango, who adds a dose of madness to the plot, his presence always transmits intensity... he represents that figure of constant danger...
The narrative is complex and full of twists, although at times it can feel slow, especially in the middle of the series, patience is rewarded in a very good way when we enter the last third of the season, which accelerates the pace and ties up many loose ends in an incredible way, the series is not afraid to surprise you and gives you several revelations that completely change the perception of the events we already know, this is something I appreciate a lot in this type of series, since the ability to surprise is great in most productions, surely many of you enjoy the deslenace.

As for the animation, although it is not spectacular, it fulfills its function in a very effective way, the character designs are distinctive, interesting, and above all are consistent with the time... And as for the action scenes, they are also well executed, you can appreciate the atmosphere and the good expression of the shootings... but, where I really consider that this series shines is in the artistic direction... As I said, this series has interesting and evocative environments that reinforce the narrative, also the soundtrack is great, it has several highlights. I think the use of jazz and saxophone in some scenes give you an incredible immersion to what is this ancient era... I feel that they did very well in choosing the soundtrack to perfectly accompany the most intense or emotional moments of the plot...
Among other things I liked about this anime is its exploration of revenge, although this is the main motive of the story, the series doesn't just glorify the fact of revenge, as the plot progresses we see how the relentless pursuit of revenge ends up consuming Avilio... alienating him from everything and everyone.... The series raises some uncomfortable questions such as the cost of revenge and whether it's really worth it, there is also an interesting exploration into loyalty within the mafia family.... We see how these concepts of brotherhood can be intertwined, strengthened or corrupted, creating morally ambiguous situations where no decision is entirely easy...

One thing I would have liked is that they were given more prominence to some secondary characters, I would have liked to see some of these more time on screen or see them relate more with the mafia world of Avilio... As for the ending, I think it is really one of the best endings I've seen, it can leave you reflecting a lot ... it is a closure that fits perfectly with what has told us the whole story and the characters arcs are closed masterfully ... 91 Days is a series that really deserves much more recognition, it is a mafia story with an interesting narrative, an enveloping atmosphere, and characters that are well developed within what is possible... They make it a very good choice for lovers of psychological thrillers or crime stories with revenge, if this is your kind of story, then let me tell you that you don't need to go see an overly saintly movie to find what you're looking for...
This anime is perfect to prove that Japan is not only good for making stories with magic, powers, or fantastic things... But it can also produce very unique and mature scenes, moments, and stories. I give it a rating of 8.5/10. It's not perfect, but it offers a pretty memorable experience, it deals with very mature themes like revenge and loyalty.... All combined with a very old-fashioned aesthetic that makes it quite appreciated. I hope if you haven't seen it, give it a chance... see you in the next reviews, take care, bye bye.

What do I think about --> GAME OF THRONES I left a drawing in his honor

    91Days.png

... It is a pure and hard seinen, a drama set in the middle of the prohibition of the 30s in the USA, where a child is the only survivor of the murder of his family by the mafia, and with all the resentment in the world he dedicates his life to infiltrating the mafia to kill those responsible for that event.

    91 Days P1.png

The Good: The twisted plot of infiltration and betrayal makes it so that anything can happen at any moment, the way Angelo (the main character) befriends his family's killers gives you hope that everything can change, Angelo's thirst for revenge while his friend tries to convince him to give up his goal makes you side with the friend and shows you that this anime might not end happily.

    91 Days P2.png

The ending takes you back to the first episode to show you why all this happened. This anime could easily be a successful mafia movie. 91 Days P3.png The Bad: I think this whole story could be a movie and not a series, although I could be wrong since the series format helps give depth to the characters. It tries to find bad things but this was the only thing that came to mind. 91 Days P4.png

    Hey there, Hive!✨

Despite having started watching anime since I was little, it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I really started watching more anime. I still consider that I have seen just a few, not much, but those few have been honestly quite good.

A few months ago I was recommended to watch 91 days and I definitely don't know why this anime doesn't have more recognition. A plot full of drama, crime and thriller that is really worth watching, so in my entry on the contest of the month from this nice community will be my opinion about this anime and why you should watch it. And for the very first time I won't be giving any spoilers😅

    My opinion about 91 days.png

    Synopsis

During the time of Prohibition in the United States, cities were subject to the rise of the mafia that already controlled them. No one was really safe in a place where the laws were a mere irrelevant piece of paper. Liquor, although prohibited, flowed through the streets of the city of Lawless, just as rivers of blood flowed at the same time due to atrocious crimes.

Angelo Lagusa was then a happy and curious little boy, who lived a normal life until one day, due to the mafia, his family was brutally murdered right before his very eyes. He miraculously manages to escape, but what will torment him forever will be his desire for revenge against the mafia, especially against the Vanetti family...

    Why should you watch it?

The central genre of the plot is drama. Believe me, if you like tension and conflict this anime is full of it from the beginning where things seem relatively calm, until the final climax. Additionally, they mix it with crime and thriller, which are elements that add intrigue, mystery and action that are the ideal complement for the strong emotions touched on in the story. It is drama justified by traumatic events that little by little are broken down, since at the beginning you do not have all the information but rather the puzzle is put together with each chapter.

    91-Days-10-1.jpg

    Source

Another aspect that makes this anime easy to watch is that it only has 12 chapters. Certainly the fact that it is so short means that there is not much character development since there is not enough time, however, I believe that not all entertainment has to be deep to be good, and in my opinion a short anime that handle the making you feel certain emotions with the story is sometimes much more entertaining to watch than something complex.

If you watch it, you will realize that a good short suspense can be maintained around an incomplete story that is put together in parts.

On the other hand, I really like that when dealing with topics such as the Italian mafia in the United States, you can see the inspiration in the classic elements of this type of stories. If you have seen movies like The Godfather you will be able to appreciate that they do a clear honor to the narrative of said story with all the drama around cold-blooded crimes, as well as family disputes.

I can only say that if you want to see something short, entertaining and very well made this holiday season, 91 days is a great option. It really is an anime that deserves greater recognition for its quality as well as for dealing with a topic that, although common in Hollywood, is very rare in anime. Furthermore, even in their animation style you can see that they made an effort to create a good story, taking care of details and providing a good result.

So give it a chance and get hooked with the mafia drama.

    ¡Hola, Hive!✨

    Sinopsis

  5. 91 days: an anime where revenge reigns (review)@reiny2939d

91 days: an anime where revenge reigns

Hello friends, there was a season in which for whole months I did not see any anime or manga, being impressive since it is one of the main means I use to entertain myself and forget a little of everyday life. After those sabbatical months, to catch up I decided at the moment to look for a list of the best anime of 2016; various synopsis I read for an hour until I was especially struck by an anime, 91 Days.

Why anime 91 days caught my attention? Well maybe one part was for the animation but in reality what hooked me was the genre: Thriller, Seinen and drama. I usually read Thriller novels and I really like Seinen, however, I am not an inveterate lover of the stories related to the Mafia, in spite of that, I happily decided to give it a try because it was something in the tops, right?

    This review has no spoiler

    Avilio

Everything starts with Angelo Legusa, a man who leads a typical but careless life, without some kind of reason for existence until he receives a decisive letter in his life, the names of those responsible and executioners of the murder of his entire family when he was a child. Before the letter received and made by a completely unknown individual, he realizes that each of the characters that appear on the list are part of the mafia, members of various organizations and families with power in which he will try to infiltrate, gain his trust, and later, get revenge.

    Avilio

It is a very interesting anime because you can feel a lot of the feelings of the protagonist, the anger and hatred that completely changed his life. Throughout the same we will be spectators of the strategies and manipulations of Angelo (who changed the name to Avilio) towards the contacts and allies he makes in story to fulfill his goal.

Something that I liked in addition to the depth of the events is that we not only love the protagonist but with different characters like Nero Vanetti, own accomplice of the murder of family Avilio and that makes him "his companion and good friend '' he without know who he really is; before this combination, we will see the situation in different perspectives depending on the witness.

What side do you wear, Avilio or Nero ?, That's you decide.
