We, human beings, are so complex and perhaps we will never be able to understand ourselves. It is hard for us to connect with ourselves, imagine understanding the rest of the people that inhabit planet earth. Everyone moves according to their interests, needs and points of view. What is certain is that there is no middle ground: are we good or bad? One is kind or one is cruel, one believes or one does not believe. The only thing to do is to respect the position of others.

Maybe one day I will wake up, open my eyes and be told that life is a lie and that there is no such thing as time. OMG, anything can happen in this crazy world, where everyone wants to be right and they always say: "That's just the way I am". I think the problem is not how people are, but how their actions affect society, since collateral damage is irreversible.

Is one bad or is one good, with no middle ground?

However, to be good people is to sow with the hope of having fruits in the future. For whatever reasons, necessity or for wanting to have much more and for power. When the time comes, nothing is a pretext, you acted badly and that's it. The child Nikolas says to his father a sentence that left me thoughtful:

"Being good, is better than being rich dad."

I like this kind of movie, because there are life lessons, but there are also messages of hope and goodness for the human being and all the species that inhabit the earth. Another point is the importance of believing in something, what we don't know what it is? But it is there, we feel it and it makes us sensitive. We are capable of giving a lot of love, especially at Christmas.

At this point in my life, I don't know how human beings manage to bring out so much love and kindness in the month of December and then make it disappear for eleven months. I think it is something innate, a trick like those performed by the great illusionists of the world; like the Hungarian escape artist Harry Houdini and David Copperfield, who stole the Statue of Liberty and had to return it the next day.

There are other questions that I have not given answers to since I was a child, and that my grandmother Bertita's insisted so much, such as: the five legs of the cat, the hairs of the frog and the eggs of the rooster, to which I have not found nor have I given answers. Someday I will see it... Yes, someday. In addition to this, there are other unanswered questions: elves, Santa Claus, hobbits, mermaids, human beings that transform into animals, the arrival of man on the moon, and many others.

Let's run, Mafa!... As my grandmother Bertita's used to say: What are you flying about? Fly!

Another theme that stands out in the film: “A Boy Called Christmas” is the importance of the mother figure in the home and in the upbringing of children. And of the family as the foundation of society. Alexandra Torres published an article in May 2023, in the website hd-cosmetics.com, entitled: "The mother figure and its influence in the development of children", in which she states the following:

The children, protagonists, relate in the film with the "Truth", in different times, but with the same feeling and pain for the loss of their mothers. And the fathers leaving them alone looking for better living conditions. Without realizing that the children feel lonely and need love. This is a sign that mothers are the ones who mold the character of their children, I hope you notice this detail in this Christmas story.

I like this genre of adventure, fiction and magic. I believe that we must not lose sight of the dreamy, smiling child in all of us. It is a version, according to Matt Haig of the life of Santa Claus and how he started Christmas.

There are films that make me reflect on life, and the why of things? But as my friend Eli says, the good ones are more. In “A Boy Called Christmas”", there is a message of love, hope, respect for others, solidarity and "truth" as fundamental ethical and moral values for man and his survival. Nikolas is the messenger of Christmas, in charge of bringing joy and smiles to the children of the kingdom.

And for adults who believe in magic, I believe it must be sought with love, far away from worldly life. It is in every heart, which allows itself to love. This movie was released in 2021 on Netflix and was directed by Gil Kenan. Nikolas and his friends, Miika and Blitzen, will embark on a journey through an inhospitable land full of danger. However, he never lost hope and never stopped believing in magic.

His inner light was not extinguished and always guided by the stories his mother told him about life, magic and the elven people. Nikolas was not alone because she was in his heart. I believe that to be the case, but whoever feels otherwise, I respect their opinion. I believe that the people we love, even when they are not physically there, are with us all our lives because they leave us their advice, their life teachings and legacies of love.

Nikolas is a determined boy who, even in the extreme cold, crosses the mountains and does not give up. His father was not in danger, he just got lost along the way. He goes over to the side of the bad guys out of necessity to feed his son and, in the end, I won't tell you the ending, watch the film.

I am fascinated by writers who live in a magical world and capture it in such a way that their writings leave me with certain uncertainties: To believe or not to believe! I prefer to believe because my mother had a very creative mind, and she would tell us anecdotes and stories from her childhood and youth. And she claimed that they were true. And the story of Nikolas sounds to me like one of her stories. I know she would have described Nikolas that way.

Imagine, she would tell us that she talked to the mice, the dogs, the cats and the plants. She always told us to be careful, not to name and invoke dark things, because they were brought to life, to the real world. Mommy, she is gone, but her stories stayed in my mind, just as she told them to me.

Why do they fly? They fly!

We must never stop believing in magic, dreaming, laughing and hoping. Being good people does not cost money, and if we want our children and grandchildren to see a better world, we must set an example for them. Don't take away their smiles by telling them that Santa Claus doesn't exist, that Christmas is commercial. Since this is not the case, you cannot imagine the harm you are doing to a child and the traumas you are causing them. Let them find out for themselves.

Nosotros, los seres humanos, somos tan complejos y quizás nunca logremos entendernos. Nos cuesta conectarnos con nosotros mismos, imagínense entender al resto de las personas que habitan el planeta tierra. Cada quien se mueve de acuerdo con sus intereses, necesidades y puntos de vista. Lo que sí es cierto es que no hay puntos medios, ¿se es bueno o se es malo? Se es bondadoso o se es cruel, se cree o no se cree. Lo único que hay que hacer es respetar la posición de los demás.

Quizás algún día me despierte, abra mis ojos y me digan que la vida es una mentira y que no existe el tiempo. OMG, es que todo puede suceder en este mundo de locos, donde todos quieren tener la razón y siempre dicen: “Es que yo soy así”. Creo que el problema no es cómo es la gente, sino cómo sus acciones afectan a la sociedad, puesto que los daños colaterales, son irreversibles.

¿Se es malo o se es bueno, sin términos medios?

Sin embargo, ser buenas personas, es sembrar con las esperanzas de tener frutos en el mañana. Por los motivos que sean, necesidad o por querer tener mucho más y por el poder. Llegado el momento, nada es un pretexto, se actuó mal y punto. El niño Nikolas dice a su padre una frase que me dejo pensativa:

“Ser bueno, es mejor que ser rico papá”

A mí me gusta el tipo de película, porque hay lecciones de vida, pero, también hay mensajes de esperanza y de bondad para el ser humano y todas las especies que habitan la tierra. Otro punto tratado, es la importancia de creer en algo. ¿Qué no sabemos qué es? Pero está ahí, lo sentimos y nos pone sensibles. Somos capaces de dar mucho amor, sobre todo en la Navidad.

A estas alturas de mi vida, no sé cómo hace el ser humano para sacar tanto amor y bondad el mes de diciembre y luego lo desaparece once meses. Creo que es algo innato, un truco como los que hacen los grandes ilusionistas del mundo; como el escapista húngaro Harry Houdini y David Copperfield, el que se robó la estatua de la Libertad y tuvo que devolverla al otro día.

Hay otras interrogantes que desde niña no le he dado respuesta, y que mi abuelita Bertita’s insistía tanto, tales como: las cinco patas del gato, los pelos de la rana y los huevos del gallo, a los cuales no he encontrado ni le he dado respuestas. Algún día lo veré… Sí, algún día. Aunado a esto, están otras interrogantes, sin respuestas: elfos, Santa Claus, hobbit, sirenas, seres humanos que se transforman en animales, la llegada del hombre a la luna, así muchos otros.

¡A correr, Mafa!… ¿Cómo decía mi abuelita Bertita’s : ¡De qué vuelan? ¡Vuelan!

Otro tema que destaca en el filme: “El niño que salvó la Navidad”, es la importancia de la figura materna en el hogar y en la crianza de los hijos. Y de la familia como fundamento de la sociedad. Alexandra Torres publicó un artículo en mayo 2023, en la página hd-cosmetics.com, titulado: “La figura materna y su influencia en el desarrollo de los hijos”, en el cual plantea lo siguiente:

Los niños, protagonistas, se relacionan en la película con la “Verdad”, en diferentes épocas, pero con un mismo sentir y dolor por la pérdida de sus madres. Y los padres dejándolos solo buscando mejores condiciones de vida. Sin percatarse de que los niños se sienten solos y necesitan amor. Esto es una muestra de que las madres son las que moldean el carácter de sus hijos, espero que observen este detalle en esta historia de Navidad.

A mí me gusta este género de aventuras, ficción y magia. Creo que no hay que perder de vista al niño soñador y sonriente que tenemos en nuestro interior. Es una versión, según Matt Haig de la vida de Santa Claus y de cómo inicio la Navidad.

Hay filmes que me hacen reflexionar sobre la vida, y él, ¿por qué de las cosas? Pero como dice mi amiga Eli, los buenos somos más. En “El niño que salvó la Navidad”, hay un mensaje de amor, de esperanza, respeto al prójimo, solidaridad y de la "verdad" como valores éticos y morales fundamentales para el hombre y su supervivencia. Nikolas es el mensajero de la Navidad, encargado de traer alegría y sonrisa a los niños del reino.

Y para los adultos que creen en la magia, creo que hay que buscarla con amor, muy lejos de la vida mundana. Está en cada corazón, que se permite amar. Esta película se estrenó en el año 2021 en Netflix y fue dirigida por Gil Kenan. Nikolas y sus amigos, Miika y Blitzen, emprenderán un viaje por una tierra inhóspita y llena de peligro. Sin embargo, nunca perdió las esperanzas ni dejó de creer en la magia.

Su luz interna no se apagó y siempre guiándose por las historias que le contaba su madre sobre la vida, la magia y el pueblo de los elfos. Nikolas no estuvo solo porque ella estaba en su corazón. Yo creo que es así, pero el que opine lo contrario, respeto su opinión. Creo que las personas que amamos, aun cuando no están físicamente, nos acompañan toda la vida porque nos dejan sus consejos, sus enseñanzas de vida y legados de amor.

Nikolas es un niño decidido que, atraviesa las montañas y no se da por vencido aun con el frio extremo. Su papá no estaba en peligro, solo se pierde en el camino. Se pasa al bando de los malos por necesidad para darle de comer a su hijo y, al final, no les contaré el final, vean el filme.

Me fascinan los escritores que viven en un mundo mágico y lo plasman de tal manera que sus escritos, me dejan con ciertas incertidumbres: ¡Creer o no creer! Yo prefiero creer porque mi madre tenía una mente muy creativa, y nos contaba anécdotas e historia de su niñez y juventud. Y ella, afirmaba que eran ciertas. Y la historia de Nikolas me parece uno de sus cuentos. Sé que ella hubiese descrito así a Nikolas.

Imagínense, que nos decía que ella hablaba con los ratones, los perros, los gatos y las plantas. Siempre nos decía que tuviéramos cuidado, de no nombrar e invocar cosas oscuras, porque se traían a la vida, al mundo real. Mami, ya no está, pero sus historias se quedaron en mi mente, tal cual me las relataba.

¡De qué vuelan? ¡Vuelan!

No hay que dejar de creer en la magia, de soñar, de reír y de tener esperanzas. Ser buenas personas no cuesta dinero, y si queremos que nuestros hijos y nietos vean un mundo mejor, hay que darles el ejemplo. No les quiten su sonrisa diciéndoles que Santa Claus no existe, que la Navidad es comercial. Puesto que no es así, ustedes no se imaginan el daño que le hacen a un niño y los traumas que les ocasionan. Déjenlos que ellos mismos lo descubran.
