   There could not have been a hand of Tim Burton in this historical-action-fantasy-horror film! Needless to say, we all know that history never goes to length as the books tell us and that the men who wrote it before being heroes were above all men, in fact. Each with their own fears, their own vendettas and their own unfinished business.

   Everyone still lives and writes their own story beyond what the books will later decide to remember. This Lincoln in a 'vampire slayer' version takes nothing away from the more recognizable sixteenth president of the United States of America and a staunch supporter of the abolition of slavery. His speaking skills, his deep honesty and his integrity remain. There remains love for family, friends and the nation.

   Abraham Lincoln, the future president of the United States, is a young boy who lives a hard but honest life with his parents, Thomas and Nancy. One night, the boy sees what he will later discover a vampire named Jack Barts, attacking his mother, who in the following days dies of a strange disease. The boy is left alone with his father, to whom he says he saw the person who poisoned his mother. He promises his father not to take revenge. The boy, however, continues to meditate revenge and respects his word, only until the death of his father, when he carries out his plan to kill Barts, discovering only in combat the true nature of his opponent. He risks dying, but is saved by Henry Sturgess, with whom he forms an excellent friendship. Teaching Lincoln the history of vampirism, training him to fight it and eventually sending him to kill vampires.

   And it is precisely on these truths that the legend of a Lincoln vampire hunter is cleverly sewn, a fighter determined to face his own shadows in order to declare war on darkness. A war (of secession) against slavery, of men, of ideas and even of blood, if they are vampires. In any case, we could all be slaves to someone or something and that is why it is really worth fighting for the freedom of all men, without distinction. A freedom that is conquered from the truth rather than from the thirst for revenge.

   A curious and original reading that, thanks to a series of heart-pounding actions, removes the patina of boredom from a great page of American history. And maybe someone not very well informed about the facts, might even decide to google 'Lincoln' or read his page on Wikipedia. On the other hand, everything makes broth! Show less

   Non poteva non esserci lo zampino di Tim Burton in questo film storico-azione-fanta-horror! Inutile dire che tutti noi sappiamo che la Storia non va mai per filo e per segno come ce la raccontano i libri e che gli uomini che l’hanno scritta prima di essere eroi sono stati soprattutto uomini, appunto. Ciascuno con le proprie paure, le proprie vendette e i propri conti in sospeso.

   Ognuno vive e scrive comunque la propria storia al di là di quella che i libri, in seguito, decideranno di ricordare. Questo Lincoln in versione ‘vampire slayer’ non toglie nulla al più riconoscibile sedicesimo presidente degli Stati Uniti d’America e accanito sostenitore dell’abolizione della schiavitù. Restano le sue abilità oratorie, la sua profonda onestà e la sua integrità. Resta l’amore per la famiglia, per gli amici e per la nazione.

   Abraham Lincoln, il futuro presidente degli Stati Uniti, è un ragazzino che vive una vita dura ma onesta con i suoi genitori, Thomas e Nancy. Una notte, il ragazzo vede quello che scoprirà successivamente un vampiro di nome Jack Barts, attaccare sua madre, che nei giorni seguenti muore per una strana malattia. Il ragazzo rimane solo con suo padre, al quale dice di aver visto la persona che ha avvelenato sua madre. Promette al padre di non vendicarsi. Il ragazzo però continua a meditare vendetta e rispetta la parola, solo fino alla morte del padre, quando mette in atto il suo piano per uccidere Barts, scoprendo solo in combattimento la vera natura del suo avversario. Rischia di morire, ma viene salvato da Henry Sturgess, con il quale stringe un ottimo rapporto di amicizia. Insegnando a Lincoln la storia del vampirismo, l'addestramento nel combatterlo e inviandolo infine ad uccidere vampiri.

   Ed è proprio su queste verità che viene abilmente cucita la leggenda di un Lincoln cacciatore di vampiri, un combattente deciso ad affrontare le proprie ombre per poter dichiarare guerra alle tenebre. Una guerra (di secessione) contro la schiavitù, degli uomini, delle idee e anche del sangue, se di vampiri trattasi. Ad ogni modo, potremmo essere tutti schiavi di qualcuno o qualcosa ed è per questo che vale davvero la pena lottare per la libertà di tutti gli uomini, indistintamente. Una libertà che si conquista a partire dalla verità più che dalla sete di vendetta.

   Una lettura curiosa ed originale che, grazie ad una carrellata di azioni al cardiopalma, toglie la patina di noia ad una grande pagina della Storia Americana. E magari qualcuno non molto informato sui fatti, potrebbe anche decidere di googlare ‘Lincoln’ o leggersi la sua pagina su Wikipedia. D’altronde tutto fa brodo! Mostra meno
