Afterlife of the party es una comedia de Netflix bastante innovadora y aunque tiene uno que otro problema que pueden ser cliché en las películas de adultos jóvenes, sin embargo, en esta película se tocan temas muy interesantes y sin duda te abre a la reflexion. Este film fue estrenado el pasado 2 de septiembre, es dirigido por Stephen Herek y tuvo como protagonistas a Victoria Justice como "Cassie", Midori Francis como "Lisa", Spencer Sutherland como "Koop" y Adam Garcia como "Howie". Esta pelicula tiene un gran mensaje en todo su desarrollo que sin duda, si eres una persona emocional terminaras llorando a mares, ya que aqui se habla de la muerte y la reivindicación de la persona. Aquí se habla sobre "Cassie", una mujer que se preocupa por si misma, dejo hace mucho en segundo plano a su familia, vive con su mejor amiga pero solo esta enfocada en disfrutar y vivir su vida al máximo, hasta que un día una irresponsable decisión tras una pelea con su mejor amiga la llevarían a su muerte. "Cassie" regresa de su noche alocada y decide ir al baño donde por accidente al caer se golpea la cabeza y muere.

Nuestra película comienza mostrándonos a esta chica que vive la vida salvaje, apegada a las redes sociales, tanto que olvida por completo la importancia de sus seres queridos. Aquí vemos como tras su muerte a pesar de haber sido una persona de influencia en redes sociales, al pasar del tiempo solo sus seres queridos la recuerdan. Cuando "Cassie" muere pasa a estar en un plano de reflexión, nos dicen que aquí permanece su alma mientras se le es asignado un lugar, esto debido a todo el daño y las cosas pendientes que dejó en su pasada vida terrenal. Lo cual es un conflicto muy interesantes, nos ponen una perspectiva bastante amigable aunque tenebrosa sobre la muerte y que pasa con nosotros después. "Cassie" en compañía de su ángel guardia tendrá la oportunidad de arreglar las cosas que hizo mal y darle paz a sus seres queridos en la tierra. Sera gracias a este camino espiritual que "Cassie" entenderá lo equivocada que estuvo en la forma que llevo su vida, como le dio importancia a lo que realmente era efímero, y dejo de lado a lo único que valía la pena, su familia y amigos. En este film nos enseñan la importancia del perdón, tanto personal como hacia otros, lo vital que es abrirnos a sanar y a curar heridas, darle prioridad a quienes están a tu lado en todo momento, no solo quienes están contigo para disfrutar y sobre todo, que aunque la muerte no sea un secreto y es inevitable, no precisamente esta ocurrirá mañana y por eso hay que dejar todo y disfrutar como ella hizo.

Afterlife of the party a pesar de ser una comedia sobre un fantasma que aparece y es divertida, nos regala un gran mensaje de reflexión, a través de "Cassie" podemos ver como las malas decisiones pueden terminar hasta con la vida, por eso entender y prestar atención sobre todo al proceso de sanación y reivindicación que tiene va a tocar tu corazón y te hará pensar mucho en tu vida, reflexionar sobre los errores y enmendarlos, saber que si, las redes sociales son divertidas y tener esa interacción puede ser cool, pero nunca debemos dejar a un lado lo verdaderamente importante, porque cuando ya no estemos aquí, solo nuestros seres queridos nos van a recordar, y aunque "Cassie" pudo aliviar la pena en ellos, al estar muerta no puede cambiar nada de sus accionares y mucho menos volver el tiempo atrás. El principal mensaje en todo esto, es no olvidar lo efímera que es la vida y lo delicada, recordar que debemos ser mas empáticos, amorosos y entregarlo todo a nuestros seres queridos, darle importancia a las pequeñas cosas, valorar hasta lo mínimo que por amor te ofrecen, porque al final, eso es todo lo que nos llevamos y lo que dejamos aquí.

I don't really know how to categorize this film. Is it a comedy? Is it a drama? Is it a spiritual film? Is it a film made for teenagers? Was it trying to be a tear-jerker?

The film succeeds in being relatively entertaining but I really feel as though they could have done a lot more with this than they did and overall parts of it were unrealistic even for something that obviously is fiction anyway.

So the story begins with rather self-absorbed "Cassie" who is celebrating her birthday week (not just a day) and making herself the center of attention and well, acting like a diva at multiple venues. Her roommate, Lisa, has been friend with her for her entire life but is a bit more serious about having a professional future. Cassie is more of a live in the now type person and parties like crazy.

During one of the party nights in the week that Cassie has dubbed "Cassie-Palooza" Lisa encourages Cassie to call it a night but Cassie ignores her advice and is actually kind of mean to her. Cassie proceeds to stay out all night and then in a drunken stupor falls in the bathroom at her own apartment, hits her head and dies.

We are spared any sort of gore because this is clearly meant to be an all-ages movie or at the maximum PG-13.

When Cassie wakes up she is in a purgatory of sorts and is met by a temporary guardian angel who has told her that she has unfinished business on earth and that her future has not yet been determined by the "board" about whether she is going "up" or "down" which is presumed to mean heaven or hell.

So Cassie has a certain amount of time in order to "right some wrongs" on earth but it isn't made clear to her what those wrongs are nor what she has to do in order to fix them. Now this is where I start nitpicking the inconsistencies in the film. Most people can not see her because she is a spirit, but animals and certain children can see her and so can her roommate Lisa but no one else can. She also can touch and move things despite not being of the material world but only when other people aren't around and only certain things.

I know that the entire story isn't meant to be super plausible anyway, but things like this bother me.

Cassie routinely goes through various crises because she doesn't know how she is going to communicate which some particular person but she is complaining about her inability to talk to other people on earth to the one person that can hear her. Seems to me like this would have a pretty easy solution but they never utilize it.

So the underlying tale of someone dying prematurely and being able to interact with the people that were close to her in her life after her death is an interesting concept and I really feel like a lot more could be done with this. There were a couple of times that i got teary-eyed so you could say that most of the actors are pretty decent but there are a few people, most notably the people who play Cassie's mother and father, that are pretty poor actors and were a bad selection. Consequently their IRL names are Adam and Gloria Garcia but as far as I can tell they are not related or married.

Should I watch it?
I'm not a teenager but I try to relate to all manner of films regardless of what the target audience is so I gave this one a chance even though the trailer makes it pretty evident that they were looking for a teenage / young adult audience with this. It is technically classified as a comedy but I wouldn't say that I found very much of it to be funny either. Parts of it were endearing and entertaining but a lot of it is pretty cringe as well. I dunno, I suppose for the right person that has the correct amount of boredom in their lives this could be worth it, for others it's gonna be too predictable, inconsistent, and corny.

I don't normally put numbers on things but I would probably give this a 5 / 10 because it was entertaining in the end.

El día de hoy les quiero platicar sobre una película que tiene poco que se estrenó en Netflix, Más allá de la fiesta, estelarizada por Victoria Justice es un “dramedy” que, aunque es muy cliché, tocará fibras sensibles dentro de tu ser, al menos para mi así fue, ya que plantea la pregunta: ¿Qué harías si tuvieras la oportunidad de arreglar las cosas con tus seres queridos después de tu partida?

Bueno, pues esto mismo le pasa a Cassie, una adolescente fiestera y alocada que es rebelde con su padre una noche sale de fiesta el día de su cumpleaños para encontrar la muerte en el baño de la fiesta. Siendo su partida tan abrupta, sus seres queridos se ven muy afectados lo que los sumerge en un estado de letargo y depresión.

En general la película tiene una comedia ligera que comparte lugares comunes con muchas otras de su tipo, lo más rescatable es el final cuando viene la reivindicación y la forma en que a través de su mejor amiga comienza a conectar y entender a sus padres, la manera en que entiende que su perspectiva no es la única y que los problemas tienen más de una cara. La escena final dónde abraza a su padre para despedirse, ese último adiós me parece la parte más enternecedora de la película ya que muchos quisiéramos esa oportunidad del último abrazo.
