American Horror Stories Season 2 episode 1 Dollhouse Review/ Recenzja odcinka@kapitanrosomak1414d

Hello you all, today I will stop my review of the 1st episode of the 2nd series of the series. The first episode called Dollhouse had a very intriguing heavily psychedelic trailer, so I was very curious to see how the creators of AHS would create a story related to human dolls. Each episode of Stories tells a single scary story and has no common denominator except to terrify the viewer. I recently managed to watch the first episode and on the one hand I am satisfied with what happened, on the other hand the trailer is very different from the actual realization of the episode. The episode takes place in the 1950s and this is its greatest advantage, you can feel this ideal world. Dollhouse begins quite interestingly when we meet a young woman who applies for a job at a factory where baby dolls are made, but the director has ghastly plans for the candidate. He decides to create the perfect mom for his young son, who likes to play with dolls. Several women, unbeknownst to each other, are staying at the mysterious house and have to put on masks pretending to be the dolls' faces. The main character initially hesitates to take part in the bizarre contest however, the stakes are her life.

The atmosphere here is even interestingly rearranged, each of the characters has a past outlined and a specific goal that led them to this place. The charm of the 45-minute episode fades somewhere in the 30th minute, where the finale falls apart like a house of cards, and what seemed ghastly at the beginning is downright comical by the end. There is a lack of consistency to guide the story to the end. And an idea, as you can clearly see the finale tacked on as if by force. While some things I accepted with enthusiasm what the main character did, in the finale everything is messed up, while some things are explained on the basis of you did this and that so we are already there. The episode is interesting, but it suffers badly from the lack of finale and the most idiotic ending you can imagine. What was interesting in the trailer was destroyed. However, it has to be said that for American Horror Stories this is a subdued episode without any scorching scenes, while vulgarities appear sporadically. I have a dilemma, because on the one hand we get an interesting antagonist crazy and loving his work and, and satisfying the strange fantasies of his son. On the other hand, a very poorly drawn finale where, all of a sudden, certain characters appear. If it weren't for the finale, this is one of the more interestingly realized episodes that show the madness. 6/10 due to the fact that the finale spoils the whole concept. I expected something along the lines of Heavy Rain's side mission, and got a good episode with a spoiled ending.

Witam was serdecznie, dziś przestawię moja recenzje 1 odcinka 2 serii serialu. Pierwszy odcinek nazwany Dollhouse miał bardzo intrygujący mocno psychodeliczny trailer, wiec byłem bardzo ciekawy jak twórcy AHS stworzą historie związana z ludzkimi lalkami. Każdy odcinek Stories opowiada jakaś jedna straszna historie i nie maja wspólnego mianownika prócz przerażenia widza. Niedawno udało mi się obejrzec pierwszy odcinek i z jednej strong jestem usatysfakcjonowany tym co wydarzyło się, z drugiej trailer mocno odbiega od rzeczywistej realizacji odcinka. Odcinek dzieje się w latach 50 i to jest jego największa zaleta, czuć ten idealny świat. Dollhouse rozpoczyna się dość ciekawie kiedy poznajemy młoda kobietę, która stara się o prace w fabryce gdzie wytwarza się lalki dla dzieci, jednak dyrektor ma upiorne plany co do kandydatki. Postanawia stworzyć idealna mamę dla swojego małego syna, który lubi bawić się lalkami. Kilka nie znanych sobie kobiet przebywa w tajemniczym domu i musza zakładać maski udające twarze lalek. Główna bohaterka początkowo wacha się by brac udział w dziwacznym konkursie jednak, stawka to jej życie.

Klimat jest tutaj nawet ciekawie przestawiony, każda z bohaterek ma jakaś przeszłość nakreślona i jakiś określony cel który doprowadził ze znalazła się w tym miejscu. Urok 45 minutowego odcinka przemija gdzieś w 30 minucie gdzie finał się sypie jak domek z kart, a to co wydawało się upiorne na początku, pod koniec jest wręcz komiczne. Brakuje konsekwencji, która poprowadziła by historie do końca. Oraz pomysłu, gdyż ewidentnie widać finał doklejony jakby na sile. O ile pewne rzeczy przyjąłem z entuzjazmem co robiła główna bohaterka tak w finale wszystko jest popsute, zaś pewne rzeczy są wyjaśnione na zasadzie zrobiłaś to i to wiec już jesteśmy. Odcinek jest ciekawy, ale choruje mocno na brak finału oraz najbardziej idiotyczny koniec jaki możecie sobie wyobrazić. To co interesowało w trailerze to zostało zniszczone. Trzeba jednak przyznać, ze jak na American Horror Stories jest to odcinek stonowany bez jakiś gorszących scen, zaś wulgaryzmy pojawiają się sporadycznie. Mam dylemat, bo z jednej strony dostajemy ciekawego antagonistę szalonego i kochającego swoją prace oraz, oraz zaspakajania dziwnych fantazji syna. Z drugiej zaś bardzo kiepsko nakreślony finał gdzie, nagle pojawiają się pewne postacie. Gdyby nie finał to jest to jeden z ciekawiej zrealizowanych odcinków, które ukazują szaleństwo. 6/10 ze względu na to, ze finał cały koncept psuje. Spodziewałem się coś na miarę misji dodatkowej Heavy Rain, a otrzymałem dobry odcinek z zepsutym końcem.

After I saw the first episode of this new AHStories season I was excited because the franchise seemed to have recovered their quality from their best years, and I am happy to say that this second episode was as good as the previous one.

It is difficult for me to explain how disappointed I was last year when I saw the first season of this spin-off. It was absurdly bad in ways that almost made me lose faith in the franchise's creators. But now, I am a bit impressive seeing how they turn around and are now providing what many horror fans have been expecting from them.

Episode 2 is about a young couple who for security reasons decided to purchase one of these smart devices that go in the front door of houses, and through the use of an app, it allows the owner to see who is standing in front of the house and even talking with them. The story uses these devices to introduce a new way of paranormal communication, and even though the episode only lasts around 40 minutes, the story felt very well-written and it even has a nice surprise towards the end that was key for later events.

I was very happy with this episode, and I really think many people will think the same. Hopefully, the franchise will continue providing this level of quality which is what all of its fans really want.

Después de ver el primer episodio de esta nueva temporada de AHStories me emocioné porque la franquicia parecía haber recuperado su calidad de sus mejores años, y me complace decir que este segundo episodio fue tan bueno como el anterior.

Es difícil para mí explicar lo decepcionado que estaba el año pasado cuando vi la primera temporada de este spin-off. Fue absurdamente mala en formas que casi me hicieron perder la fe en los creadores de la franquicia. Pero ahora, estoy un poco impresionante al ver cómo le han dado la vuelta y ahora están proporcionando lo que muchos fanáticos del terror han estado esperando de ellos.

El episodio 2 trata sobre una joven pareja que por razones de seguridad decidió comprar uno de estos dispositivos inteligentes que van en la puerta principal de las casas, y a través del uso de una aplicación, permite al propietario ver quién está parado frente a la casa e incluso hablar con ellos. La historia utiliza estos dispositivos para introducir una nueva forma de comunicación paranormal, y aunque el episodio solo dura alrededor de 40 minutos, la historia se sintió muy bien escrita e incluso tiene una disfrutable sorpresa hacia el final que fue clave para los eventos posteriores.

Estoy muy contento con este episodio, y realmente creo que mucha gente pensará lo mismo. Con suerte, la franquicia continuará brindando este nivel de calidad, que es lo que todos sus fanáticos realmente quieren.

The popular American Horror Story franchise is back in the form of its spin-off, American Horror Stories. This horror series is one of the most well-known since the past decade, and I personally loved many of the seasons of the original show.

The difference between the original and this spin-off, is that the original is an anthology per season, meaning that each season has a different and usually independent story. And the spin-off is an anthology per episode, which means each episode has its own story.

The first season of this spin-off was a disappointment. The majority of the episodes all sucked, and they only tainted the reputation of the franchise. Luckily, this first episode of season 2 was very good, much better than anything of the previous season, and it made me feel as if this franchise is finally recovering the quality they lost in the past. If they manage to do so, it would be one of the best news that many horror fans can hear.

La popular franquicia American Horror Story está de regreso en la forma de su spin-off, American Horror Stories. Esta serie de terror es una de las más conocidas desde la década pasada, y personalmente me encantaron muchas de las temporadas del programa original.

La diferencia entre el original y este spin-off es que el original es una antología por temporada, lo que significa que cada temporada tiene una historia diferente y generalmente independiente. Y el spin-off es una antología por episodio, lo que significa que cada episodio tiene su propia historia.

La primera temporada de este spin-off fue una decepción. La mayoría de los episodios apestaron y solo mancharon la reputación de la franquicia. I have seen 6 episodes of the 7 in total they are going to release for this series, and so far, I only consider 1 of them, Ba'al, as definitely worth watching. The general tone in this spinoff has been bordering on mediocrity and with only 1 episode left, I believe this spinoff will certainly reduce the value of the AHS brand.

So far, all the episodes at least had original stories, not necessarily entertaining, but they weren't stories copied from other productions, this isn't the case with Feral. There are many films with stories extremely similar to this one, and the most popular of all are the classical Wrong Turn movies.

In those films, the story is always that a group of people goes hiking or doing some type of activity in remote places, and they eventually find a group of strange and violent people that live in those remote places and like to hunt down humans. The original Wrong Turn movie is from the early 2000s and early this year a remake of the same name was released which was quite cool. In total there are 7 Wrong Turn movies.

Feral is an episode where the story is pretty much the same as in those movies. That's why I find it strange they decided to produce this episode due to its lack of originality. The origins of these feral people might be different than those in the movies, but the result of pretty much the same.

Main names associated with the episode

Manny Coto is both the director and writer of this episode. He was the writer of 4 out of the 7 episodes this series has. Including the worst one, the Naughty list, and the best one, Ba'al. Apart from this series, he has also worked as a writer in many other shows such as Dexter, Star Trek: Enterprise, among many others. As a director, he has less experience and this is the first time he directs a production in 20 years. The last production he directed apart from this one was Zenon: The Zequel, and when it comes to the horror genre, he directed one episode of Tales from the Crypt in 1991.

This story doesn't have that many characters because the majority of the scenes take place in remote mountains and woods. The 2 main characters begin the episode as husband and wife. The husband is played by the actor Aaron Tveit, this character likes camping and enjoyed spending time with his only son who is a little kid. Tveit has previously worked in several films, such as Les Misérables, Premium Rush, and Grease Live!. The wife is played by the actress Tiffany Dupont who is best known for her work in Proven Innocent, Murder in the First, Brian Banks, and a few other productions.

He visto 6 episodios de los 7 en total que van a lanzar para esta serie, y hasta ahora, solo considero que uno de ellos, Ba'al, definitivamente vale la pena verlo. El tono general en este spin-off ha estado al borde de la mediocridad y con solo 1 episodio restante, creo que este spin-off ciertamente reducirá el valor de la marca AHS.

There is a character played by Blake Shields that will serve as some type of guide in the mountain, this character is supposed to help them and protect them when they return to the woods. This actor usually works playing secondary characters in TV shows, he has previously worked in Castle, Rosewood, The Mentalist, and many others.

Finally, we have Cody Fern playing a mountain ranger whose main responsibility is to protect the people in that area. This actor is the second one I have seen in this spinoff that has also played important roles in the original series. The first one was Billie Lourd in the previous episode called Ba'al. Fern has previously worked in American Crime Story, which is a series from the same creators of AHS, he also worked in the film Pisces, in the series House of Cards, and a few others.

What was the episode about?

The story is about a tragedy that happens to a family while they are on a camping trip and their later efforts in figuring out what happened in that place. The family is small, the parents and just 1 little kid. They are just having fun and when the dad is walking around with his son playing hide and seek, the inevitable happens. I don't think any adult would consider it wise to play hide and seek with a kid in the middle of a forest, but horror stories sometimes are full of unwise and hard-to-understand decisions.

The first part of the episode is just the introduction to what will come later. There are only 4 characters in this story, the ones I mentioned in the section above, so this shows how small and basic the plot is. The episode doesn't show any grief or how the parents dealt with the tragedy, it jumps right into many years in the future, where the dad is suddenly approached by a man who claims he knows how to help them figure out what happened.

By that point, the dad's life was a mess and with nothing else to lose so naturally, they decided to go back into those woods and hope they can discover something new. This second trip is where things are going to get really crazy, but the problem is, this episode falls short when comparing it with the original films with similar stories.

People going into remote places and finding extreme danger is typical of horror, a few paragraphs above I mentioned the Wrong Turn movies because the scenery is similar but this idea is extremely popular and there are many other films where the same sequence of events happens.

No creo que ningún adulto considere prudente jugar al escondite con un niño en medio de un bosque, pero las historias de terror a veces están llenas de decisiones imprudentes y difíciles de entender.

La primera parte del episodio es solo la introducción de lo que vendrá después. Solo hay 4 personajes en esta historia, los que mencioné en la sección anterior, por lo que esto muestra cuán pequeña y básica es la trama. El episodio no muestra el dolor ni cómo los padres lidiaron con la tragedia, salta directamente a muchos años en el futuro, donde de repente un hombre se acerca al padre que dice que sabe cómo ayudarlos a descubrir lo que sucedió.

En ese momento, la vida del padre estaba hecha un desastre y sin nada más que perder así que de forma tan natural, decidieron volver a esos bosques y esperar poder descubrir algo nuevo. Este segundo viaje es donde las cosas se van a poner realmente locas, pero el problema es que este episodio se queda corto al compararlo con las películas originales con historias similares.

La gente que va a lugares remotos y encuentra un peligro extremo es típico del horror, algunos párrafos arriba mencioné las películas de Wrong Turn porque el escenario es similar pero esta idea es extremadamente popular y hay muchas otras películas donde ocurre la misma secuencia de eventos.

One of the reasons why this episode falls short is because the actual horror only happens towards the end of the episode, and it was all so sudden that when I thought the good parts were just starting, the episode quickly ended as if it was on a rush. It only lasts around 39 minutes and that might not be enough to develop a proper horror plot.

Another thing I didn't enjoy was the lack of a paranormal element in the story. For me, the best horror stories always have some type of paranormal element, and it is the lack of understanding about this element, its unknown nature that helps in making things more scary or creepy. In Feral, the horror comes from the weird primitive people living in that remote place but there is nothing that should be uncontrollable about them for modern civilizations. If a danger like that happened in real life, it shouldn't be hard to neutralize it.

How were the performance from the cast and the scenery?

The 2 main characters, the parents, provided very generic performances. In the first part of the episode, when they begin to yell in the mountain, I wasn't convinced about Aaron Tveit's performance. His sense of urgency and stress didn't really feel very authentic in those important moments. There is little to be said about Tiffany Dupont's performance, it wasn't entirely bad, but it wasn't memorable either, just regular. The same can be said about the remaining 2 characters in the entire episode, the mountain guide and the ranger.

The scenery was cool because remote mountains and woods can always produce a bit of creepiness due to the unknown things one can encounter in them. I also liked the makeup of some feral people, and was surprised to see one that had a perfect camouflage making him look like a tree.

Final thoughts

The episode doesn't really bring anything new to the table, but it wasn't entirely bad either. It is just that as a horror fan, I have seen this same story countless times and since AHS is known for its original plots, I was expecting the same from every episode of this spinoff. However, I think it is very clear they lowered the standards when they decided to produce this spinoff.

My worry is if the entire AHS brand is going down, the last season of the original series called 1984 was also disappointing to me because it was like if they didn't take it seriously, it was a season with a lot of silly moments, dialogues and characters. However, this is a series with almost 10 seasons and right now it is too soon to say it became crappy. I still plan to see the last episode of the spinoff and the new season of the original series that will be released later this month. In case that new season is also disapointing, then I will really begin to think about stop watching any more AHS.

Una de las razones por las que este episodio se queda corto es porque el horror real solo ocurre hacia el final del episodio, y fue tan repentino que cuando pensé que las partes buenas estaban comenzando, el episodio terminó rápidamente como si tuviera prisa. Solo dura alrededor de 39 minutos y eso podría no ser suficiente para desarrollar una trama de terror adecuada.

Otra cosa que no disfruté fue la falta de un elemento paranormal en la historia. Para mí, las mejores historias de terror siempre tienen algún tipo de elemento paranormal, y es la falta de comprensión sobre este elemento, su naturaleza desconocida, lo que ayuda a hacer las cosas más aterradoras o espeluznantes. En Feral, el horror proviene de las extrañas personas primitivas que viven en ese lugar remoto, pero no hay nada que deba ser incontrolable en ellos para una civilización moderna. Si un peligro como ese sucediera en la vida real, no debería ser difícil neutralizarlo.

¿Cómo fue la actuación del elenco y la ambientación?

Los 2 personajes principales, los padres, proporcionaron actuaciones muy genéricas. En la primera parte del episodio, cuando comienzan a gritar en la montaña, no estuve convencido de la actuación de Aaron Tveit. Su sentido de urgencia y estrés realmente no se sintió muy auténtico en esos momentos importantes. Hay poco que decir sobre la actuación de Tiffany Dupont, no fue del todo mala, pero tampoco fue memorable, solo regular. Lo mismo puede decirse de los 2 personajes restantes en todo el episodio, el guía de montaña y el guardabosques.

El paisaje estuvo bien porque las montañas y los bosques remotos siempre pueden producir un poco de escalofríos debido a las cosas desconocidas que uno puede encontrar en ellos. También me gustó el maquillaje de algunas personas salvajes, y me sorprendió ver una que tenía un camuflaje perfecto que lo hacía parecer un árbol.

Reflexiones finales

El episodio realmente no trae nada nuevo a la mesa, pero tampoco fue del todo malo. Es solo que, como fanático del terror, he visto la misma historia innumerables veces y, dado que AHS es conocido por sus tramas originales, esperaba lo mismo de cada episodio de este spin-off. Sin embargo, creo que está muy claro que bajaron los estándares cuando decidieron producir este spinoff.

Mi preocupación es sobre si toda la marca de AHS está cayendo, la última temporada de la serie original llamada 1984 también me decepcionó porque era como si no se lo tomaran en serio, era una temporada con muchos momentos, diálogos, y personajes tontos. Sin embargo, esta es una serie con casi 10 temporadas y ahora mismo es demasiado pronto para decir que se volvió mala. Todavía planeo ver el último episodio del spin-off y la nueva temporada de la serie original que se lanzará a finales de este mes. En caso de que la nueva temporada también sea decepcionante, entonces realmente comenzaré a pensar en dejar de ver más AHS.

Finally, after watching the first 4 episodes of this spinoff series and finding them disappointing in varying degrees, the fifth one was at least acceptable. Before beginning to watch this series I had high expectations because I have been a fan of the original series for several years.

What I like the most about the American Horror Story (AHS) brand, is that it is constantly bringing new and usually cool horror stories to the fans, year after year. They are very constant in their releases and the only time they had any problem was last year due to the pandemic. Since they couldn't release any new season last year, this year they are releasing a new season of the original show and this spinoff as well.

Developing a proper horror story in only 40-45 minutes isn't easy. I felt the episode called "Drive In" could have been much better if that topic was explored throughout an entire season instead of only 1 episode. Of the 5 episodes I have seen, that one has the story with the most potential in my view but Ba'al has been the most enjoyable so far.

However, I do know that horror stories can be developed in a matter of minutes because on Youtube there are shorts of every genre we can imagine, including horror of course, and I have seen a lot of excellent horror shorts from several channels. ALTER is one example, if you wanna check out what I am talking about, sort their list of videos by popularity and watch the most popular ones, you will find more than 1 little gem in those videos. I have to say some of those shorts are better than some episodes of American Horror Stories so that's a good alternative if you are looking for a horror quick fix.

Main names associated with the episode

The director of the episode was Sanaa Hamri. She has a lot of experience and most of her previous works are for shorts or for TV series. She has recently worked in the series Empire, Shameless, and Glee.

The episode had 2 writers, Ali Adler is one of them and she has previously worked as a writer in several series such as The New Normal, Glee, No Ordinary Family, and Chuck. The other writer was Manny Coto, who also worked in other episodes of this show, as well as in different series such as The Exorcist, Star Trek: Enterprise, The ½ Hour News Hour, and many others.

When it comes to the cast, I will only mention the 2 main characters. The main one is played by Billie Lourd. She is an actress that has appeared in several seasons of the original series, and she also had an important role in the series Scream Queens, which has the same creators as AHS. She can be considered one of the traditional cast members of AHS and no wonder her episode in AHStories has been the best one so far. She plays a woman in her 30s who wants to get pregnant and is willing to explore weird methods in order to achieve that.

Lo que más me gusta de la marca American Horror Story (AHS) es que constantemente trae nuevas y generalmente geniales historias de terror a los fanáticos, año tras año. Her husband is played by Ronen Rubinstein. The most important role in his career has been in the series 9-1-1: Lone Star, and he has also worked in the films Smiley Face Killers, Follow Me, Brooklyn Love Stories, and many other productions. In this episode, he plays a guy struggling to become a successful actor but he luckily has the support of her wealthy wife.

In summary, we have a director and writers with plenty of experience working in series, and the main character played by an actress who constantly appears in the original show's seasons. In fact, this is the fourth character she plays for an AHS story, and later this year, when the new season called Double Feature of the main show is released, she will be there again playing her fifth role.

What was the episode about?

The episode begins with the couple discussing their plans with a doctor at a fertility clinic. They are very frustrated with their inability to become parents and are now getting worried about their chances of actually getting pregnant. They seem like a normal stable couple, and worst-case scenario would be to adopt instead of having the pregnancy but the wife really wants to have her own child.

Soon enough in the episode and completely by chance, the wife will be approached by a character who will inform her of a superstitious method that could help her with the pregnancy. She obviously doesn't take this very seriously but since she doesn't have anything to lose, or so she thinks, she decides to give this a try without even informing her husband. This method of getting pregnant is nothing extreme by the way, I thought she was going to do extremely crazy stuff but nope, the crazy thing is what happens much later.

Every time a baby is present in a horror story it is no surprise to eventually see the baby in danger and the evil forces wanting to do something related to the baby. This part of the story was a bit generic and the same can be said when the Hispanic maid has a suddenly scary reaction when she notices something in the house and rushes outside whispering things in Spanish. I have seen that same reaction in other horror productions from the same type of Hispanic character so that didn't feel original either. However, the show has a couple of good unexpected twists.

The mother spends a lot of time alone with her baby because the husband is working hard to become an actor and soon enough, she will begin to see weird things happening in her house. What she is perceiving is real or is caused by her lack of sleep and excessive stress? There are 2 potential explanations, one would be the rational one and the other the superstitious one.

If you have seen the series called Evil, you will notice that most cases in that series have 2 types of explanations, the same happens in this show only that by the end of it, one of those explanations are made very clear thanks to a cool final twist.

¿De qué se trató el episodio?

El episodio comienza con la pareja discutiendo sus planes con un médico en una clínica de fertilidad. Cada vez que un bebé está presente en una historia de terror, no es de extrañar ver al bebé en peligro y las fuerzas del mal queriendo hacer algo relacionado con el bebé. Esta parte de la historia fue un poco genérica y se puede decir lo mismo cuando la sirvienta hispana tiene una reacción repentina y aterradora cuando nota algo en la casa y sale corriendo susurrando cosas en español. He visto la misma reacción en otras producciones de terror del mismo tipo de personaje hispano, por lo que tampoco se sintió original. Sin embargo, el episodio tiene un par de buenos giros inesperados.

La madre pasa mucho tiempo sola con su bebé porque el esposo está trabajando duro para convertirse en actor y pronto comenzará a ver cosas raras que suceden en su casa. ¿Lo que está percibiendo es real o es causado por su falta de sueño y estrés excesivo? Hay 2 posibles explicaciones, una sería la racional y la otra la supersticiosa.

Si has visto la serie llamada Evil, notarás que la mayoría de los casos en esa serie tienen 2 tipos de explicaciones, lo mismo sucede en este episodio solo que al final del mismo, una de esas explicaciones se deja muy clara gracias a un genial giro final.

As time goes on, the situation becomes unbearable for the couple and some measures need to be taken so they can have a peaceful life once again. The most enjoyable part of the episode is the last 15 minutes or so. That's when the twists begin to be revealed and some scenes that could be considered scary are shown.

One important thing to mention about this episode is that it was the first time the main characters played adults instead of teens. Maybe that was also a factor in making this episode the best one so far for this spinoff.

How were the performance from the cast and the camera work?

I liked the performance of the main actress, Billie Lourd, she showed enough emotional intensity and simply played her character in a satisfactory manner. The same cannot be said about the actor playing the husband, Ronen Rubinstein. He had a neutral performance and his character was very generic throughout the episode. One of the twists might explain why this is the case, but I believe it was also a lack of proper performance by the actor himself.

The camera work was particularly good during some of the scary scenes but I believe horror fans will be able to figure out when something bad is going to happen so the show doesn't really surprise in that way.

Special mention to the intro and this is something where AHS always excels. This episode has the best intro so far in the spinoff, you can check it out here.

Final thoughts

American Horror Stories finally released an episode that can be considered worth watching. So far this spinoff has been a huge disappointment to me as a long-term fan of the original show, but this episode proves they still have what it takes to create cool horror stories. The episode isn't a masterpiece and isn't the best AHS work so far but it is what I was expecting since I began to watch the spinoff a couple of weeks ago.

I don't understand why they decided to release the crappy episodes first but I hope the next episodes are as good as this one or even better. By the way, even though it was originally announced there were going to be 16 episodes, the number has now been reduced to only 7 episodes. I don't know why such a drastic change in the number of episodes, but maybe they plan to do another season down the road. Since there are now only 7 episodes in total that means there are just 2 left. By the end of this month, Double Feature will be released but I will wait for the complete season to be available to binge-watch it.

La parte más disfrutable del episodio son los últimos 15 minutos más o menos. Ahí es cuando comienzan a desvelarse los giros y se muestran algunas escenas que podrían considerarse aterradoras.

Una cosa importante a mencionar sobre este episodio es que fue la primera vez que los personajes principales interpretaron a adultos en lugar de adolescentes. Quizás ese también fue un factor para hacer de este episodio el mejor hasta ahora para este spin-off.

¿Cómo fue la actuación del elenco y el trabajo de cámara?

Me gustó la actuación de la actriz principal, Billie Lourd, mostró suficiente intensidad emocional y simplemente interpretó a su personaje de manera satisfactoria. No se puede decir lo mismo del actor que interpreta al marido, Ronen Rubinstein. Tuvo una actuación neutral y su personaje fue muy genérico durante todo el episodio. Uno de los giros podría explicar por qué esto fue así, pero creo que también fue una falta de actuación adecuada por parte del propio actor.

El trabajo de la cámara fue particularmente bueno durante algunas de las escenas de miedo, pero creo que los fanáticos del terror podrán darse cuenta de cuándo va a pasar algo malo, por lo que el programa no sorprende de esa manera.

Reflexiones finales

American Horror Stories finalmente lanzó un episodio que se puede considerar que vale la pena ver. Hasta ahora, este spin-off ha sido una gran decepción para mí como fanático de la serie original desde hace mucho tiempo, pero este episodio demuestra que todavía tienen lo que se necesita para crear historias de terror geniales. El episodio no es una obra maestra y no es el mejor trabajo de AHS hasta ahora, pero es lo que esperaba desde que comencé a ver el spin-off hace un par de semanas.

No entiendo por qué decidieron lanzar primero los episodios horribles, pero espero que los próximos episodios sean tan buenos como este o incluso mejores. Por cierto, aunque originalmente se anunció que iba a haber 16 episodios, el número ahora se ha reducido a solo 7 episodios. No sé por qué un cambio tan drástico en la cantidad de episodios, pero tal vez planeen hacer otra temporada en el futuro. Dado que ahora solo hay 7 episodios en total, eso significa que solo quedan 2. A fines de este mes, se lanzará Double Feature, pero esperaré a que la temporada completa esté disponible para verla en maraton.

There were a few generic scenes throughout the episode, including one part where the play with a Ouija board and what everyone expects happens.

American Horror Stories, AHStories for short, is the spinoff of the popular horror series American Horror Story, AHS. The original show had some excellent seasons and others were not that great but the general tone was acceptable. The main difference is that the original is an anthology per season, and the spinoff is an anthology per episode.

This series is sadly not getting any better. This is the fourth episode now, and it still hasn't provided any story that's really worth watching. In this case, there wasn't even any paranormal element to the story.

The feeling this series gave me was similar to the one from a Black Mirror episode called Smithereens from season 5. What I felt was that this story and episode simply shouldn't belong to this series at all. During all of AHS seasons, every single one of them had a paranormal element but this episode is simply about a dangerous murderer, nothing more.

Before going deeper as to why this episode was disappointing, let's first give a brief mention of some of the people who worked on it.

Main names associated with the episode

The director is Max Winkler. This is the first time I see something directed by him, but he has sufficient experience and has been working mainly directing episodes for TV shows. Besides AHStories, he has also worked in the series Cruel Summer, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Lady Dynamite.

The writer of the story is Manny Coto. He was the same writer of the previous episode called Drive In, which was a bit better than this one, and he also wrote the story of 2 more AHStories episodes that are yet to be released. Besides this show, he has worked in the series Next, Dexter, among many other productions.

The cast of the show has 4 main actors and all of them play the typical influencer who lives big, is constantly partying, and having fun everywhere. These actors are Kevin McHale, who was previously worked in Elite, Glee, and a few other productions. Nico Greetham, who worked in one episode of Into the Dark, 1 episode of Blue Bloods, Power Rangers Ninja Steel among a few other productions.

El programa original tuvo algunas temporadas excelentes y otras no fueron tan buenas, pero el tono general fue aceptable. La principal diferencia es que el original es una antología por temporada y el spin-off es una antología por episodio.

We also have Dyllon Burnside whose main previous acting job was with the series Pose, and finally, the other main character is played by Charles Melton, whose main role is in the series Riverdale, he also worked in Bad Boys for Life and made a small appearance in the AHS season called Hotel.

The most well-known actor in this episode is Danny Trejo who plays the villain. This guy usually acts in movies with a lot of violence, the most popular ones are Machete and Machete Kills. More recently he has worked in countless productions such as the series Seis Manos, American Gods, and From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series.

What was the episode about?

The episode had a lot of cringe moments, it follows the life of a group of 4 influencers who are living together in a mansion and call themselves the Bro House. They spend their time filming silly and crazy things with the goal of increasing their followers and their income.

It felt like the series was trying to mock people like Vitaly Zdorovetskiy or the Paul brothers. The influencers in this episode were very annoying and weren't even fun. The story is about their tragic downfall after losing their grace and getting out of touch with the type of content that's enjoyed by the audience.

They get into deep trouble when they decide they need to film something that's really crazy and disturbing because they think this will make them even more popular. So, they go to a bridge and wait for something tragic to happen there. This particular case of filming something macabre reminded me of something that happened to a youtuber a few years ago when he went to a suicide forest in Japan and apparently in the video, people could see a real dead body. This caused a lot of backlashes and negative critic towards this guy.

Something similar happens to the influencers in the episode. Once they post the tragic video, they think they are triumphing big but in reality, their worst nightmare is just beginning. Naturally, most people don't like to see tragedies in videos, those events are sad and there is nothing fun in them.

To make things worst, once they realize they screwed up with that video, they decide to try and do something fun while shopping in a mall center and while they are filming, their out of touch mentality is there once again back and instead of fun, they become annoying and even rude to the people around them.

El episodio tuvo muchos momentos de vergüenza, sigue la vida de un grupo de 4 influencers que viven juntos en una mansión y se hacen llamar Bro House. Pasan su tiempo filmando tonterías y locuras con el objetivo de aumentar sus seguidores y sus ingresos.

Parecía que la serie intentaba burlarse de personas como Vitaly Zdorovetskiy o los hermanos Paul. Los influencers en este episodio eran muy molestos y para nada divertidos. La historia trata sobre su trágica caída después de perder la gracia y perder el contacto con el tipo de contenido que disfruta la audiencia.

Este caso particular de filmar algo macabro me recordó algo que le sucedió a un youtuber hace unos años cuando fue a un bosque suicida en Japón y aparentemente en el video, la gente pudo ver un cadáver real. Esto causó muchas reacciones y críticas negativas hacia este tipo.

Algo parecido les ocurre a los influencers del episodio. Una vez que publican el trágico video, piensan que están triunfando a lo grande, pero en realidad, su peor pesadilla apenas comienza. Naturalmente, a la mayoría de la gente no le gusta ver tragedias en videos, esos eventos son tristes y no hay nada divertido en ellos.

Para empeorar las cosas, una vez que se dan cuenta de que se equivocaron con ese video, deciden intentar hacer algo divertido mientras compran en un centro comercial y mientras están filmando, su mentalidad fuera de contacto aparece una vez más y en lugar de divertirse, se vuelven molestos e incluso groseros con las personas que los rodean.

These characters weren't likable, they weren't funny, and honestly, I believe most people won't enjoy watching an episode revolving around these characters, not even if we take into account what happened to them later on. In short words, they got what they deserved and much more.

I am getting worried about this particular show and also about the AHS brand as a whole. The last AHS season called 1984 was the worst one in my opinion, mainly because the characters were so silly that it was cringe-worthy. If that disappointment wasn't enough, this show, the spinoff which seemed like a promising new production, is resulting in the worst stories I have ever seen released under the AHS brand. I believe the main creators of this show Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk are damaging and devaluing their horror brand. If they continue releasing these subpar stories, there is a high chance they will end up losing their fans.

As I have mentioned in previous articles about this series, there will be 16 episodes in total so it is too soon to properly judge this series, but it is worrying that after 25% of the series being released and there isn't even a single episode that could be considered as worth watching.

My idea is to continue watching the weekly episodes and hopefully find some of them worth watching, but right now, this series has all the looks of being a complete failure. Especially because the best episodes are usually shown first to hook the fans and keep them watching the series, it wouldn't make much sense to release the best episodes last but who knows.

How were the performance from the cast, the scenery and the camera work?

If the goal was to really dislike the main characters then those actors did a really good job with their roles. They played pretty much the same type of person and I don't believe acting like that requires many acting skills so there aren't many positive things to say about the cast, not even Danny Trejo, who only said about 2 or 3 lines during all of the episodes.

There wasn't much scenery in the episodes, besides the bridge scene and the mall one, the rest of the story takes place inside the mansion where the influencers are living. When it comes to original scenes or camera angles, there was a cool one filmed from the point of view of a camera inside a fridge. Apart from that, everything in the episode was generic and boring.

I have the suspicions the creators of this horror brand are overmilking it. If that turns out to be the case that would be a shame but so far it seems very likely after seeing 4 episodes that aren't really up to standards. This one is the worst of all AHS productions I have seen, and I don't understand why they decide to produce these crappy episodes. It would be better to produce fewer ones but with higher quality. Interpretaron más o menos al mismo tipo de persona y no creo que actuar así requiera muchas habilidades de actuación, por lo que no hay muchas cosas positivas que decir sobre el elenco, ni siquiera de Danny Trejo, quien solo dijo unas 2 o 3 líneas durante todos los episodios.

No hubo mucho escenario en los episodios, además de la escena del puente y la del centro comercial, el resto de la historia transcurre dentro de la mansión donde viven los influencers. Cuando se trata de escenas originales o ángulos de cámara, hubo uno genial filmado desde el punto de vista de una cámara dentro de una nevera. Aparte de eso, todo en el episodio fue genérico y aburrido.

Reflexiones finales

Tengo la sospecha de que los creadores de esta marca de terror la están abusando. Si ese resulta ser el caso, sería una pena, pero hasta ahora parece muy probable después de ver 4 episodios que realmente no están a la altura de los estándares. Esta es la peor de todas las producciones de AHS que he visto, y no entiendo por qué deciden producir estos episodios de mierda. Sería mejor producir menos pero con mayor calidad. A couple of days ago the second episode of the new anthology series American Horror Stories was released. I first wrote about this series last week after I watched the first 2 episodes and the truth is that I was disappointed with them. Those episodes weren't even half as enjoyable as the original show. Let's not forget this series is a spin-off of American Horror Story, with the main difference that the original is an anthology per season and the spin-off an anthology per episode.

The last stories I have watched about AHS have been disappointing and I am talking about not only the first 2 episodes of this series, but also about the last season of the original show. That season was called "1984", it was a slasher like the classic ones from that decade but I was surprised to see several characters with silly performances, as well as the dialogues and writing as if they were done with laziness without taking the show seriously.

The 1984 season is from 2019, so after 2 years without any new content from AHS I was hyped about the new spin-off. It started off badly but this is not necessarily a reason to worry because as an anthology, episodes are independent of each other, and it is also inevitable there will be some crappy ones. My decision after being disappointed with the first 2 episodes was to continue watching the show because I believe that at least some of the episodes should be great.

So that's what I am doing. I watched this week's episode, which is the third one of the season and it is called Drive In. It was a bit better than the first 2, its story is entirely original and not a continuation from any of the seasons from the original show, and it had good potential to make the viewer sense some intrigue. However, the 40 minutes length was too short to properly develop this promising plot.

I will explain more about the episode in a few paragraphs below but right now I will briefly mention some of the people that worked in this episode.

Main names associated with the episode

The director was Eduardo Sánchez, a guy who has accumulated enough experience in his directing career since he started in the late 90s. He has been focusing mostly on series for the past few years and some of the best ones where he has worked are Supernatural, Queen of the South, and Lucifer.

The writer of the episode was Manny Coto. He has previously worked in one episode of my favorite AHS season called Apocalypse and is also the writer of a few more episodes of this anthology. When it comes to other productions, he wrote one episode for the series The Exorcist and has worked in many more series such as 24, Dexter, and several other ones. This writer really shows potential to be capable to create cool stories so I am happy to know more episodes from this series are written by him.

One of the 2 main characters of the show is played by Rhenzy Feliz. His acting career started only 5 years ago and he has participated in some cool productions such as Teen Wolf, and Runaways. He plays a teen that is trying to finally get laid with his girlfriend and decides that watching a mysterious horror movie might be a good way to do this.

His girlfriend is the other main character and is played by Madison Bailey. This actress began her career 6 years ago but has participated in many more projects than Rhenzy. She has participated in the series Outer Banks, in Creepshow, in Black Lightning, and many other productions. In AHS, she is a responsible girl and along with her boyfriend, they will suddenly find themselves in a crazy situation resembling a zombie apocalypse.

Hace un par de días se estrenó el segundo episodio de la nueva serie antológica American Horror Stories. Escribí por primera vez sobre esta serie la semana pasada después de ver los primeros 2 episodios y la verdad es que me decepcionaron. Esos episodios no fueron ni la mitad de buenos que el programa original. No olvidemos que esta serie es un spin-off de American Horror Story, con la principal diferencia de que el original es una antología por temporada y el spin-off una antología por episodio.

Las últimas historias que he visto sobre AHS han sido decepcionantes y me refiero no solo a los 2 primeros episodios de esta serie, sino también a la última temporada del programa original. Esa temporada se llamó "1984", fue un slasher como los clásicos de esa década pero me sorprendió ver a varios personajes con actuaciones tontas, así como los diálogos y la escritura como si se hicieran con pereza sin tomarse en serio el programa. .

The last actor I would like to mention is John Carroll Lynch. This actor is very popular and I am sure most people have seen him several times in various productions. In the last season of AHS, 1984, he played the murderous villain and now in this episode, he plays the villain again. He plays a director that made a cursed movie on purpose and wishes for everyone in the world to watch his film. Some of the other previous productions where John has worked as an actor are Fargo, The Founder, Zodiac, he also appeared in one of the seasons of Channel Zero which was another great anthology series but it was sadly canceled.

These are all the names worth mentioning in my opinion, and I believe the key person who made this episode better than the previous 2 was the writer. It wasn't that much better but at least it was an improvement which is what I was looking for.

What was the episode about?

The series follows 2 teens who are boyfriend and girlfriend. They have their normal group of friends and this setting might seem a bit discouraging and boring at first glimpse, but it will allow for a key circumstance to occur during a very important event. Without teens, that key circumstance would have been less probable and therefore, less believable.

The boyfriend is a virgin and he really wants to have sex for the first time. So while talking with his friends, one of them says there is a cursed movie that apparently makes everyone who watches it become crazy and kill each other. It happened in the past and the reaction was so strong the film became forbidden and this increased its reputation as a cursed film.

The director even needed to give an explanation to the senate or something like that, and while doing that he had a rage outburst which proved he wasn't a stable person. All of this happened in the past and we discover it because the teen does a little research into the film after hearing about it. It turns out, the film is going to be shown once again at the local drive-in and this is the perfect opportunity for him to hook up with his girlfriend. This is the only interest this guy has in going to see the movie.

Everyone in the town knows about the past history of the film, but naturally, no one takes it seriously. Its curse is considered to be just an urban legend, so a bunch of people decide to attend the screening in their cars and watch the film. Everything that happens before the cursed movie starts playing in the drive-in is boring but once the movie starts things will get very interesting.

The episode doesn't show even a glimpse of the scenes of the cursed film but we can hear it immediately starts with a woman screaming like crazy. I like the makeup applied to the people affected by the film, their looks were really well-done and appropriate. There will be a handful of cool scenes involving the people affected and there were much better than the cool scenes of the previous 2 episodes.

Before attending to the drive-in, the 2 teens knew this was just 1 of several screenings, so they take matters into their own hands and realize it is their duty to prevent further chaos from happening. They will be able to track down the director of the film with such ease and speed that reminded me of the movie Censor because something similar happens in that film.

Sin los adolescentes, esa circunstancia clave habría sido menos probable y, por lo tanto, menos creíble.

Eventually, we learn a bit more about the creator of the film but this wasn't enough background information to satisfy my intrigue about it. I would have liked to know more about the psychological effects it had on people and the reasons for this. The episode only briefly mentions the incentives of the creator in making this film and not much more.

However, it did have a couple of cool scenes that could be considered horror, and what I liked the most was its ending. I was expecting the episode to continue but it suddenly ended, and I would have preferred a longer episode to explore some of the events that will continue to take place but perhaps in the future. The ending is the type of ending I like to see in horror and dark stories, it was very promising and I think it leaves the door open to a continuation episode down the road.

This plot really has the potential to be a very cool horror story but it needs more screen time to be properly developed. I liked it, but since I felt it was too short and that the story felt incomplete it was also a bit underwhelming. The good thing is that it was an improvement over the first 2 episodes and hopefully the series can continue to improve in the next ones.

How were the performance from the cast, the settings and the camera work?

The performance of the teens' characters wasn't really good. It was easy to tolerate that due to the promising events that I knew will take place but what I liked was mostly the writings and not really the performance of the cast. The most convincing performance was from John Carroll Lynch, but he only has like 3-4 minutes of screen time and that's it.

There isn't much to say about the settings. I did find it surprising the ease with which the teens were able to find the director of the movie, and it was a big coincidence the guy was just at a driving distance away. The camera work was nicely done, there were a couple of scenes where the viewer can become surprised because the camera angle hides the real state the character is in, and when it is revealed it can be a bit surprising.

Final thoughts

American Horror Stories still needs to improve to satisfy the high expectations many fans have of it. This third episode was better in my opinion than the previous 2, but it is not good enough to call it a great horror story. It had potential, and it could have been better with more screentime. Hopefully, this same story can continue either in another episode or in another season because I really believe there are still possibilities that should be explored related to this film, its effect on people, and the chaos it causes. Again, the ending was so promising that I was surprised to see the episode suddenly ending like that, I expected the episode to continue a bit longer.

So far, the first 3 episodes have had teen characters as the most important ones. The best horror stories usually have older adults as the main characters so when this changes then it is likely we will see a better episode.

I liked the originality of episode 3, and I expect this to continue in the next episodes. I will continue to watch each of the new episodes as they are released 1 per week. In total, there are 16 episodes so there are 13 more to go, and what's even better, the moment this show reaches its final episode, the next week we will have the first one of the new American Horror Story season called Double Feature, so there will be a lot of AHS for the coming months.

Eventualmente, aprendemos un poco más sobre el creador de la película, pero esto no fue suficiente información de fondo para satisfacer mi intriga al respecto. A couple of days ago the spin-off of the horror anthology series American Horror Story was released, and I was quite hyped about this because AHS is one of the horror series I have enjoyed the most in the past decade, and last year they were unable to release new content due to the pandemic so this year fans of the series will have not only a new season but also this new spin-off show.

The main difference between the original season and the spin-off is that the former is an anthology per season while the latter is an anthology per episode. So, similar to the format used in Black Mirror, the new show, American Horror Stories, will have independent episodes with each of them providing an original plot with unique characters. The only exception is the first 2 episodes. I expect this series to show some well-known members of the original cast in some of the episodes, as well as link the new stories with some of the original seasons.

AHS has had some excellent seasons throughout the existence of the show, they have released series about a hunted house, about witches, about a crazy circus, an asylum, the apocalypse with the anti-Christ himself, and the last season released in 2019 was about a serial killer with an 80s touch. My favorite season was Apocalypse but what I love about the show is that it constantly provides new cool horror stories that can be quite enjoyable.

Now, despite what the intros and the poster might imply the type of horror in this show isn’t really hardcore horror in my opinion. In fact, one of the creepiest things ever produced for AHS was the intro for the season with the crazy circus, that intro was creepy but in a cool way, you can check it out here.

AHS can be very entertaining and cool but it is far from the best horror productions I have seen. Lately, the show has been getting a bit cheesy, especially with the last season called 1984 which was the worst one for me. However, I do think the show can continue to be a cool little horror production and that’s why I was excited about this spin-off.

There are going to be 16 episodes in this spin-off so judging it just after the first story isn’t fair, my plan is to write an article for each of the stories as they are released each week. What I can say, for now, is that I really hope the next episodes improve a lot, because if Rubber Woman is the best it can offer then it is surely going to be a very crappy series. When it comes to anthologies, it is impossible to enjoy all the stories released under the same brand, some of them are going to be great and others not so much.

Before talking about the first story, I would like to mention some of the people who worked in them.

Main names associated with the series

Ryan Murphy is the original creator of AHS but he has also participated in other shows such as Scream Queens, Hollywood, The Politician, Ratched, among many other TV shows. He doesn't work in movies that much, dedicating most of his time to series. Brad Falchuk is the other creator of AHS, he and Ryan are partners and have worked together on many projects. Their experience and previous work are similar but not entirely the same.

The director of the first 2 episodes was Loni Peristere, he has sufficient experience directing episodes for TV shows, and he has directed a total of 9 episodes of the original AHS series. Other series where he has also worked are Castle Rock, Warrior, A Series of Unfortunate Events, among many others.

Hace un par de días se lanzó el spin-off de la serie de antología de terror American Horror Story, y estaba bastante entusiasmado con esto porque AHS es una de las series de terror que más he disfrutado en la última década, y el año pasado fueron incapaz de lanzar contenido nuevo debido a la pandemia, por lo que este año los fanáticos de la serie no solo tendrán una nueva temporada, sino también este nuevo spin-off.

La principal diferencia entre la temporada original y el spin-off es que la primera es una antología por temporada, mientras que la segunda es una antología por episodio. Entonces, de manera similar al formato utilizado en Black Mirror, la nueva serie, American Horror Stories, tendrá episodios independientes y cada uno de ellos proporcionará una trama original con personajes únicos. La única excepción son los 2 primeros episodios. Espero que esta serie muestre a algunos miembros conocidos del elenco original en algunos de los episodios, así como que vincule las nuevas historias con algunas de las temporadas originales.

AHS ha tenido algunas temporadas excelentes a lo largo de la existencia del programa, han lanzado series sobre una casa maldita, sobre brujas, sobre un circo loco, un manicomio, el apocalipsis con el propio anticristo, y la última temporada estrenada en 2019 fue sobre un asesino en serie con un toque de los 80. Mi temporada favorita fue Apocalipsis, pero lo que me encanta del programa es que constantemente ofrece nuevas historias de terror geniales que pueden ser bastante disfrutables.

Ahora, a pesar de lo que las intros y el póster puedan implicar, el tipo de horror en este programa no es realmente un horror hardcore en mi opinión. De hecho, una de las cosas más espeluznantes jamás producidas para AHS fue la introducción de la temporada con el circo loco, esa introducción fue espeluznante pero de una manera genial, puedes verla aquí

AHS puede ser muy entretenido y genial, pero está lejos de ser una de las mejores producciones de terror que he visto. Últimamente, el programa se ha vuelto un poco cursi, especialmente con la última temporada llamada 1984, que fue la peor para mí. Sin embargo, creo que el programa puede seguir siendo una pequeña producción de terror genial y es por eso que estaba emocionado con este spin-off.

Habrá 16 episodios en este spin-off, así que juzgarlo justo después de la primera historia no es justo, mi plan es escribir un artículo por cada una de las historias a medida que se publiquen cada semana. Lo que puedo decir, por ahora, es que realmente espero que los próximos episodios mejoren mucho, porque si Rubber Woman es lo mejor que puede ofrecer, seguramente será una serie muy mala. Cuando se trata de antologías, es imposible disfrutar de todas las historias lanzadas bajo una misma marca, algunas de ellas van a ser geniales y otras no tanto.

Antes de hablar de la primera historia, me gustaría mencionar a algunas de las personas que trabajaron en ellas.

Nombres principales asociados a la serie

Ryan Murphy es el creador original de AHS pero también ha participado en otros programas como Scream Queens, Hollywood, The Politician, Ratched, entre muchos otros programas de televisión. No trabaja mucho en películas, dedicando la mayor parte de su tiempo a las series. Brad Falchuk es el otro creador de AHS, él y Ryan son socios y han trabajado juntos en muchos proyectos. Su experiencia y trabajos previos son similares pero no del todo iguales.

El director de los 2 primeros episodios fue Loni Peristere, tiene suficiente experiencia dirigiendo episodios para programas de televisión y ha dirigido un total de 9 episodios de la serie original de AHS. Otras series en las que también ha trabajado son Castle Rock, Warrior, A Series of Unfortunate Events, entre muchas otras.

When it comes to the cast, in these episodes there were no classic members of the AHS cast, all of them were new. One thing that characterizes AHS is that they have cast members who constantly reappear season after season and the fans like me are used to seeing them year after year. Since this spin-off will have 16 episodes, it is understandable that new actors and actresses need to be hired in order to produce so many different stories.

The main character is a teenage girl played by Sierra McCormick. She has had a very active acting career since the late 2000s but this was the first time I ever saw this actress on the screen. Some of her other recent productions are We Need to Do Something, All Good Things, and Some Kind of Hate. American Horror Stories and The Vast of Night are the most popular production where she has worked so far.

This character has 2 dads. One is played by Matt Bomer who had already acted in one of the seasons of the original AHS show. He had a secondary role in the Doom Patrol series, and played the main character in another series called White Collar. His husband in AHS is played by Gavin Creel, this actor doesn't have too much experience in the acting world, he has participated in 7 productions so far, with AHS being the most important and the only one where he played one of the main roles.

What were the 2 episodes about?

These episodes were a continuation of the story in season one. That season introduced us to this haunted house and also provided enough background information about this place that isn't available in the spin-off, so in order to properly enjoy these 2 episodes it is recommended to first watch AHS season 1.

In these episodes, a new family is moving to this house. They are aware of the house's tragic past but they don't believe in the paranormal so they don't pay too much attention to those rumors. They move here because they want to renovate the house, and then earn a profit by selling it, which is curiously a surprising similar family situation to the one in the series The Haunting of Hill House.

These episodes would have been great to bring back some of the ghosts played by a couple of classic characters of the series but that sadly didn't happen. It would have made things so much better. I believe the creators of the show must have approached at least 2 of these classic members of the original AHS to reappear in these episodes, they must have received a not for an answer for whatever reason, and I believe they just decided to still produce the episodes with an entirely new cast.

This house is full of ghosts, so not seeing any of the ghostly characters from the original season felt off, especially because there are supposed to be some ghosts whose goal was to protect families such as this one. Anyways, so this family moves in, and the daughter quickly discovers a weird latex suit. This latex suit is important in the original AHS season, and soon enough, it will be very clear the suit is having an effect on this girl.

Una cosa que caracteriza a AHS es que tienen miembros del elenco que reaparecen constantemente temporada tras temporada y los fans como yo estamos acostumbrados a verlos año tras año. Dado que este spin-off tendrá 16 episodios, es comprensible que sea necesario contratar nuevos actores y actrices para producir tantas historias diferentes.

Estos episodios fueron una continuación de la historia en la primera temporada. Esa temporada nos presentó esta casa embrujada y también proporcionó suficiente información de fondo sobre este lugar que no está disponible en el spin-off, por lo que para disfrutar correctamente de estos 2 episodios, se recomienda ver primero la temporada 1 de AHS.

En estos episodios, una nueva familia se muda a esta casa. Son conscientes del trágico pasado de la casa, pero no creen en lo paranormal, por lo que no prestan demasiada atención a esos rumores. Se mudan aquí porque quieren renovar la casa y luego obtener ganancias vendiéndola, lo que curiosamente es una situación familiar similar a la de la serie The Haunting of Hill House.

Estos episodios hubieran sido geniales para traer de vuelta algunos de los fantasmas interpretados por un par de personajes clásicos de la serie, pero eso lamentablemente no sucedió. Habría mejorado mucho las cosas. Creo que los creadores del programa deben haberse acercado al menos a 2 de estos miembros clásicos de la AHS original para reaparecer en estos episodios, deben haber recibido un no por respuesta por alguna razón, y creo que simplemente decidieron seguir produciendo estos 2 episodios con un elenco completamente nuevo.

Esta casa está llena de fantasmas, por lo que no ver a ninguno de los personajes fantasmales de la temporada original se sintió mal, especialmente porque se supone que hay algunos fantasmas cuyo objetivo era proteger a familias como esta. Throughout the episode, there will be a lot of silly dialogues that don't add much to the story, and there will also be some teen drama that can be annoying but at least it served as a way to trigger important events.

There is murderous energy in the house thanks to its past, and slowly but surely it will start to condition some of the things that happen in the life of the family living there. This energy, coupled with some negative events in the life of the family, will have terrible consequences for everyone involved.

How were the performance from the cast, the settings and the camera work?

The performance from the cast left much to be desired, and I only say this because of the way one of the 2 adult men acted. I am talking about Gavin Creel, his performance wasn’t very convincing and there was even one moment in episode 2 where it even seemed he was about to laugh.

This makes me think the cast or maybe just him wasn’t taken this story very seriously, or maybe he isn't really a good actor which would explain the lack of acting experience in his career. The constant silly and empty lines contribute to this perception of mine. I remember I felt the same thing with the last AHS season 1984, that season also had excessive silly lines and unconvincing performances. If the show continues like this it will die for sure, it needs to get back to serious non-silly horror stories, just like its name says.

The settings and the camera work were regular. Most of the story takes place inside the house but some scenes also happen outside in some amusement park while on Halloween. The camera work didn't feel special in the least.

Final thoughts

Fans of the show should be happy it is finally back and with a new format of 1 different story per episode that seems very promising. However, these 2 episodes are far from being close to the best this show can offer. There was a lot of teen drama, and just non deep and stupid dialogues all over the place. As I mentioned before, it is still too soon to judge, but I am a bit worried because the last season 1984 wasn’t as good as I was expecting and this spin-off began with disappointment. I have high expectations for AHS and I am not happy seeing the potential of this show being wasted with silly lines, as if the people creating it didn’t take it seriously.

I would only recommend watching these 2 first episodes for people who absolutely love the series and want to see it after so much time, and especially for those who loved the first season since the story is about the same haunted house. For general horror fans who don’t really know about AHS, I would recommend skipping these 2 first episodes.

A lo largo del episodio, habrá muchos diálogos tontos que no añaden mucho a la historia, y también habrá algún drama adolescente que puede ser molesto, pero al menos sirvió como una forma de desencadenar eventos importantes.

Hay una energía asesina en la casa gracias a su pasado, y poco a poco irá condicionando algunas de las cosas que suceden en la vida de la familia que vive allí. Esta energía, sumada a algunos eventos negativos en la vida de la familia, tendrá terribles consecuencias para todos los involucrados.

¿Cómo fue la actuación del elenco, la ambientación y el trabajo de cámara?

La actuación del elenco dejó mucho que desear, y solo digo esto por la forma en que actuó uno de los 2 hombres adultos. Me refiero a Gavin Creel, su actuación no fue muy convincente e incluso hubo un momento en el episodio 2 en el que incluso parecía que estaba a punto de echarse a reir.

Esto me hace pensar que el elenco o tal vez solo él no se tomó esta historia muy en serio, o tal vez no es realmente un buen actor, lo que explicaría la falta de experiencia en su carrera. Las constantes líneas tontas y vacías contribuyen a esta percepción mía. Recuerdo que sentí lo mismo con la última temporada de AHS 1984, esa temporada también tuvo líneas excesivamente tontas y actuaciones poco convincentes. Si el programa continúa así, seguramente morirá, necesita volver a historias de terror serias y no tontas, como su nombre lo indica.

La ambientación y el trabajo de la cámara fueron regulares. La mayor parte de la historia tiene lugar dentro de la casa, pero algunas escenas también ocurren afuera en algún parque de diversiones durante Halloween. El trabajo de la cámara no se sintió especial en lo más mínimo.

Reflexiones finales

Los fanáticos del programa deberían estar felices de que finalmente esté de regreso y con un nuevo formato de 1 historia diferente por episodio que parece muy prometedor. Sin embargo, estos 2 episodios están lejos de ser lo mejor que puede ofrecer este programa. Hubo mucho drama adolescente, y diálogos no profundos y estúpidos por todas partes. Como mencioné antes, todavía es demasiado pronto para juzgar, pero estoy un poco preocupado porque la última temporada de 1984 no fue tan buena como esperaba y este spin-off comenzó con una decepción. Tengo grandes expectativas para AHS y no estoy contento de ver que el potencial de este programa se desperdicia con líneas tontas, como si la gente que lo creó no lo tomara en serio.

Solo recomendaría ver estos 2 primeros episodios para las personas que aman la serie y qué quieren verla después de tanto tiempo, y especialmente para aquellos que amaron la primera temporada ya que la historia trata sobre la misma casa embrujada. Para los fanáticos del terror en general que realmente no saben sobre AHS, recomendaría omitir estos 2 primeros episodios.

The Best

Lo Mejor

I was so happy to finally have some AHS back. I think most fans of the show will be happy too.

It was cool to see the haunted house from season one again, but it would have been better to see some of the original ghosts.
