Dear community, Today, I want to talk to you about a cinematic experience I recently immersed myself in. It's not your ordinary series, but rather a miniseries that is a true Western gem: "American Primeval."

Hello movie buff friends, after watching this Netflix miniseries, I wanted to share it with you, because I want to tell you that it is spectacular, at first it didn't catch my attention, because I am more of a modern person, but when a moment passed and the plot developed, it didn't take long to catch me, imagine how good it is, and in a matter of two days I finished it.🤪 Now I want to give you a little summary so you know what it is about. It takes place in the territory of the United States in 1857, exactly in Yuta, in the Wild West, a desert with ostile nature. Sara and her son Devin are traveling in search of their father who is in the Cruz area, they are trying to escape from their past. They arrive at a place called Fort Bridguer, a trading post where they had to meet a person to guide them, who previously left without waiting for them.

We will also meet a Mormon couple who travel in a group to find a dream life, and arrive at the same place, Jacob and his wife Abis, accept that Sara and their son travel with them. After her departure, a man arrives asking about Sara, with the news that she is wanted for the robbery and murder of a man, and they are also asking for a reward for whoever finds her. The group of Mormons arrive at a camp to rest, then the hooded Mormon Militia appears and carries out a massacre, killing everyone in the place, saving only the women. Sara and her son Devin manage to escape, learning that they are wanted to collect the reward. A tribe known as the Pauvite captures the Mormon women and murders them, except for Abis who is taken with them.

Abis finds out that her husband did not die, he is badly injured but alive, Jacob meets the Militia who tells him that they are going to help him, without knowing that they were the ones who caused the massacre. On the other hand, we see that Sara and Devin are joined by a girl named Dos Luna who, along with Isac them, experiences many dangers during their trip, such as sexual abuse, wolf attacks, weather calamities, difficult weather, and the attack of bounty hunters. Finally, Isac after fighting against the bounty hunters and managing to kill them all, he ends up injured and dies, a moment of great sadness, when Sara decides not to continue on the path for Cruz and heads towards California in search of a new life where no one is looking for her. In the series we will find the United States army, the Colonies or the natives, and of course the Mormon Army that wanted to separate the Yuta territory from the United States. I want to emphasize that there are real historical moments in the series, such as the cruel massacre led by the Mormons. Also searching through history I discovered that the character of Governor Bridguer existed and the location of Fort Bridguer. Although all the other characters are fictitious, the plot is very well developed according to the time, since it shows the harsh reality of that time, without masks or decorations. The savagery and cruelty of a place that belonged to no one. I hope that my short summary stimulates you to look for this miniseries, I recommend it, you will not regret it. Se desarrolla en el territorio de Estados Unidos en los Años 1857, exactamente en Yuta, en el salvaje oeste, un desierto con naturaleza ostil. Sara y su hijo Devin, estan de viaje en busca de su padre que se encuentra en la zona de Cruz, estos tratan de huir de su pasado. Luego de su partida, llega un hombre preguntando por Sara, con la noticia de que es buscada por el robo y asesinato de un hombre, además estan pidiendo recompensa para quien la encuentre. El grupo de Mormones llegan a un campamento para descansar, entonces aparece la Milicia Mormona encapuchados y hace una masacre acabando con todos en el lugar, salvandose solo las mujeres, Sara junto a su hijo Devin logran escapar enterándose que son buscado para cobrar la recompensa.

Una tribu conocida como los Chochones captura a las mujeres mormonas asesinandolas, menos a Abis que es llevada con ellos.

Abis se entera que su esposo no murió, está mal herido pero con vida, Jacob se encuentra a la Milicia quien le dice que lo van a ayudar, sin saber que fueron ellos los que provocaron la masacre. Por otro lado vemos que junto a Sara y Devin se une una chica llamada Dos Luna que junto a Isac pasan muchos peligros durante su viaje, como abusos sexuales, ataque de lobos, calamidades del tiempo, con un clima difícil, además el acedio de los cazadores de recompensas.

Finalmente luego de que Isac peleara contra los caza recompensa y lograra matarlos a todos, el termina herido y muere, un momento de mucha tristeza, es cuando Sara decide no continuar el camino para Cruz y se dirige hacia California en busca de una nueva vida donde nadie la busque. En la serie nos encontraremos el ejército de los Estados Unidos, a los Colones o los nativos, y por supuesto al Ejército Mormón que quería separar al territorio de Yuta de los Estados Unidos. Quiero recarcarles que está precente momentos históricos reales en la serie, como la cruel masacre dirigida por los Mormones. También buscando en la historia descubrí que el personaje del Gobernador Bridguer, existió y la localización del Fuerte bridguer. Aunque todos los demas personajes son ficticios, la trama está muy bien elaborada según la epoca, ya que muestra la cruda realidad de aquel entonces, sin máscaras ni adornos. El salvajismo y crueldad de un lugar que no pertenecía a nadie. Espero que mi corto resúmen les estimule a buscar esta miniserie, se la recomiendo, no te vas a arrepentir. ›American Primeval (series): Gritty, dark, gory, and fast-paced@netflixr556d

I like it every now and then when someone breaks the mold and goes for a mini-series rather than a long and drawn out super-season that is filled with a lot of crap filler that is there only to eat up time in order to extend the duration of the episodes in order to fill a 10-12 episode season. I don't really understand why most networks bother with a prescribed season length these days seeing as how so very few of these shows are actually released on a weekly basis, nor are they normally on "channels" that have commercials. It doesn't make much sense to me that there would even be some sort of prescribed season length when everyone is streaming these days.

Having a really long season to me seems pointless and encourages people to simply move on from one series to another one as soon as it starts to lull. American Primeval gets to the point quickly, has excellent location shots and absolutely flawless representation of the time period in question. Unlike other "pioneer in America" stories, this one keeps things moving at a very fast pace and does a good job with character development and story progression. They manage to do this despite the fact that there are about a dozen main characters and it isn't very clear until the last episode who the story is actually about.

When I saw that an American frontier tale was being made by Netflix my first reaction was "great, now everyone is going to be race-swapped and they are going to have some sort of alternate sexuality message mixed in there" but much to my surprise they didn't actually do any of that! Is Netflix turning over a new leaf and realizing that they have a reputation of doing exactly this and people are sick of it? I am hopeful that a lesson has been learned because I was ready to turn it off as soon as such a thing started to happen... yet it never did.

This is the tale of the struggle that existed in the 1800's when there was a great push to continue expanding USA west into lands that were mostly uncharted and ungoverned and the rule of law was tentative at best. We follow the lives of several groups of people and the harsh environments that they are faced with and how incredibly dangerous every moment of their lives could be once they were to stray just a little ways from what little civilization existed at the time.

After a rather exciting opening sequence that is filled with action but very little context (which I think is a fantastic way to get you hooked from the start) we are introduced to Sara and her son Devin who are crossing the West from Kansas to Wyoming in search of Devin's father. As dangerous as it was in those times for anyone to be crossing these lands, it was even more difficult for a woman traveling alone. Don't worry, Netflix also didn't try to turn her or anyone else into a "girl boss" either. They for once didn't try to smash the patriarchy with some sort of alternate history story that isn't even real.

It is soon revealed to us that there is a very real reason why Sara is so fussy and in such a hurry. A reason that I am not going to reveal here because I think you should watch this very well-produced series.

On the way she encounters a lot of people that she attempts to put into her employ and she ends up joining a caravan for protection along the way which is something that I would imagine was very necessary during those times seeing as how the rule of law was something that didn't really exist at the time. Once settlers left the protection of a city or fort, it was basically a free-for-all back in those times, with dangers from wildlife, gypsies, and Indians being a constant threat. A group of more than 100 people, all of which were armed seems as though it would be safe but since it is revealed in the trailer I don't mind telling you that things go horribly awry in that caravan and this is where we are introduced to most of the remaining main characters as well.

The story branches out in multiple directions that mostly all begin from that one moment.

This is where we, the viewers, are let in on some secret information that the rest of the characters in the story do not know the answer to yet aside from a few people that are involved. Sara is one of the witnesses to what really happened during this event and she finds herself in much more danger than she and her son were in prior to that.

That's probably the main story here but there is also the story of some Mormon couple that was also traveling to this part of the world who were separated in the ambush and have a story of their attempt at reuniting. Let's just say that the two of them take very different paths to their eventual reuniting. This is not a spoiler, it is pretty evident that this is a major part of the story and that it is going to end up the way that it does. The path it takes to make that happen is what is interesting about that entire ordeal.

There is a 3rd player in this epic story and that is the group of Mormons that were lead by a person by the name that most Americans have probably heard before yet they aren't sure why they know it. The name is Brigham Young and he is the leader of the Mormons that attempted to make the Utah area a separate country apparently although I am unclear on how truthful the information presented in this series actually is.

The absence of a real central character is kind of what makes this story flow so well. We don't have a chance to get bored of any of them because we don't stay focused on any one of them for very long. Also, unless they have plans for the future, there isn't any sort of real crossover between all of the ones I have mentioned, and more people as well, at any certain point. I think this may have been by design so that if the series ends up being successful, they have a number of ways that they can carry it on into the future.

With just 6 episodes that are all under an hour and packed with action, I don't think that many people will get bored while watching this the way that many people tend to when presented with a "western" series of sorts.

Many people have called this series very graphic, with some describing certain parts of it as "difficult to watch." So let that be a warning of sorts for you: this series is extremely graphic and parts of it are, in fact, difficult to watch. The depictions of violence are not dialed down in order to make this one family-friendly and I would definitely recommend against watching this with your kids.

Now there is one thing that people should take into account before watching this and that is that the story is almost completely fictional and some have went as far as to say that it is a bit of a "hit piece" towards Latter Day Saints (the Mormons). They are depicted as ruthless and conniving people who break the rules of their own religion on a regular basis in the search for additional power. According to historians this is not what happened at all so just keep that in mind when you are watching this and have a Eureka moment about how awful the Mormons were at the time because it is a work of fiction and none of the events in this story actually happened.

Should I watch it?

I think you can tell from that one-minute trailer that this is a very graphic series, so if you can handle that sort of thing or if you are like me and you actually enjoy that sort of thing then yes, I think this will be a good one for you. Don't expect to learn anything real by watching it though, this is purely entertainment and not meant to be some sort of historical viewing of any sort.

The main thing that sticks out to me is that whoever was in charge of the writing, knew that they wanted to keep the audience engaged the entire time and to keep things moving. They definitely accomplished that and I would say that at times it is almost as though they rushed through things a bit too much.

I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next season as well.

I recently finished watching a short series on Netflix called American Primeval, a brutal and confronting depiction of frontier life set in Utah around 1857. It's stunning, from the scenery, acting, storyline and in its direction; another masterful job by Director Peter Berg. It's in-your-face, unrelenting, brutish and bloody...primeval I suppose is a good word for it.

The watcher is taken on a journey woven around stories and difficulties of frontier life, issues between the whites and native American Indians, personal hardship and endurance and even true historical events; the Mountain Meadows Massacre committed by the the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) where a hundred and thirty or so men, women and children were massacred as part of the Utah War in which the Mormon settlers and US Government went at it for various reasons. (Fucken nutbag religious nuts.) It demonstrates human behaviour at it's very base (primal) level with moments of compassion, caring, generosity and selflessness mixed in; it's an excellent depiction of how those years would have been I think...and how we are now.

This isn't a review though, so if you want to find out for yourself take a look on Netflix.

The show made me think about human evolution and how brutal humans can be (and are) towards each other for very little reason at all. (Greed and religion feature prominently amongst those reasons.)

I contemplated the difference between humanity today in 2025 compared to one hundred and sixty eight years ago in 1857 and that made me cast my mind back even farther to when we lived in caves gathering nuts and berries, our Neanderthal ancestry and beyond...and then the path back to the future throughout the years to right now.

Back then, should you take my nuts and berries I'd have clubbed your head in with a stick or rock. Should you have encroached on my farmstead or landholding in the middle ages I'd have stuck a pitchfork up your ass or swung a sword into your head or body. If I was the Emperor of Rome I'd have conquered your lands killing my way towards owning them in the name of Rome, or were I the Catholic Pope, Urban II, I'd have sanctioned the Crusades in 1095 and the killing that ensued. Yep, those things happened.

Moving forward, look at the brutality, suffering and harm humans have caused each other up to and including this very day. I did a list of wars and conflicts back a while in a post which started around the year 1900 if my memory serves well and it was long. But...we're evolving into a better species right? *Wrong. *If you want to have a little look at some of the conflicts and wars you can see this link to the Encyclopedia Britannica which lists many: See here. It stops around 2012 though so there's many not present.

But we're evolved right? We're better, moving in the right direction. We're enlightened...

I beg to differ and call into question the sanity of anyone who says such things. It's nuts and simply demonstrates their closedmindedness. Sure, we need to see the positives, I agree with people who say that...and yet that means fuck all if there's not enough action to create them. (And there isn't.)

Strip away the technology and we're generally not much different to the humans who came before us. Sure, we seem more enlightened, intelligent and connected but I don't think we are all that better at all...it's just a facade, an illusion, we create to delude ourselves with while we dumb ourselves down with AI and social media. Maybe I'm not talking about you or me, but in general we are the same beasts we've always been acting in the same brutish ways we always have and for the same reasons.

I doubt humans will ever learn better ways and employ them on a massive enough scale to make any difference...but don't worry, eventually we'll cause our own extinction through the destruction of the planet and resources, our intelligence through our reliance on AI and automation or through war. Bring all three I reckon, let's get the fucken party started!

The western will always be alive, even if there are seasons in which good productions are scarce, there will always be stories set in the wild west that attract the public's attention and rekindle the enthusiasm for a fascinating genre. I like westerns because they remind me of my childhood, when every Sunday afternoon I watched westerns on TV.

This series has six episodes and it is available on Netflix and apparently it has been a success on that platform, besides a large sector of the specialized critics have agreed in favorable opinions. I was looking forward to watching it since I stumbled upon the trailer.

Those responsible for this story are the screenwriter and creator Mark L Smith, known for having participated in the screenplay of the film The Revenant by González Iñirratu, starring Leo DiCaprio. His filmography includes several interesting scripts, including the remake of Twisters, which was released last year. In addition to directing the miniseire Peter Berg, who has a lot of experience in both directing and making thrillers and action stories. I really liked his film Very Bad Things, which was a delight at the time. Although many others like the film and the Friday Night Lights series. Shadow of the Kingdom is another good film from this filmmaker who knows what the viewer likes.

During the six episodes we will witness some truly savage events. A sample of the vile nature of the human being during a time when it was necessary to use force to survive. If you think your life is hard because you were told you were fat and you think you are a traumatized victim on social networks, you should watch this miniseries to see if you discard so much mental nonsense, because the really hard thing is having to fight for your life, many times in unfavorable conditions.

El western siempre estará vivo, aunque haya temporadas en las que escaseen las buenas producciones, siempre habrá historias ambientadas en el salvaje oeste que llamen la atención del público y reaviven la ilusión por un género fascinante. Me gustan los westerns porque me recuerdan a mi infancia, cuando todos los domingos por la tarde veía películas de vaqueros en la televisión.

Seis episodios tiene esta serie que está disponible en Netflix y al parecer ha tenido éxito visualizacino en esa plataforma, además de que un gran sector de la crítica especializada ha coincidido en opiniones favorables. Tenía ganas de verla desde que me topé con el trailer.

Los responsables de esta historia son el guionista y creador Mark L Smith, conocido por haber participado en el guión de la película The Revenant de González Iñirratu, protagonizada por Leo DiCaprio. Su filmografía incluye varios guiones interesantes, entre ellos el remake de Twisters, que se estrenó el año pasado. Además de dirigir la miniseire Peter Berg, que tiene mucha experiencia tanto en la dirección como en la realización de thrillers e historias de acción. Me gustó mucho su película Very Bad Things, que fue una delicia en su época. Aunque a muchos otros les gusta la película y la serie Friday Night Lights. La sombra del reino es otra buena película de este cineasta que sabe lo que le gusta al espectador.

American Primeval follows the codes and characteristic elements of the genre in recent decades. A lonely antihero with a painful past. A woman seeking a new life after a crime and trying to protect her son. Conflict with Indian tribes displaced from their lands. Bounty hunters, criminals, scavengers, settlements with their own rules. What is striking about this western is that it shows everything in a more cruel and ruthless way.

It was a very violent time, so mercy and abuse are the characters' bread and butter. Not only do they have to watch out for common criminals, but also for Indians who are at war with the white invader. In addition, environmental conditions are another enemy. Added to all this is the inclusion of the Mormons, through the armed bands of that religious sect, at war with the federal government.

The story is very much inspired by real events, such as the infamous Mountain Meadows Massacre and the Utah War. I think Mormons will be the most upset with the miniseries, as their sect and its leader, Brigham Young, are not portrayed very well. Certainly that man was the one who took the sect to another level and created that state, but what they don't say, is that to achieve this, much blood was shed and horrors were committed by all parties involved, even by those who say they were talking to God.

Betty Gilpen and Taylor Kitsh play Sarah and Isaac, the main characters in the story, and both excel with their characters, but I was captivated by the subplot of Abish, the Mormon played by Saura Lightfoot-Leon and her husband Jacob, played by Dane DeHaan, although the latter is very lost in the final part. The showdown between Jim Bridger and Brigham Young to hold down the fort was also excellent. Kim Coates is great in the role of Young.

If you like good stories with cruel and vicious scenes, this miniseries is a must see. Let me know what you think in the comments.

American Primeval sigue los códigos y elementos característicos del género en las últimas décadas. Un antihéroe solitario con un pasado doloroso. Una mujer que busca una nueva vida tras un crimen y trata de proteger a su hijo. Conflicto con tribus indias desplazadas de sus tierras. Cazarrecompensas, criminales, carroñeros, asentamientos con sus propias reglas. Lo que llama la atención de este western es que muestra todo de una forma más cruel y despiadada.

Era una época muy violenta, por lo que la piedad y el abuso son el pan de cada día para los personajes. No sólo tienen que vigilar a los delincuentes comunes, sino también a los indios que están en guerra con el invasor blanco. Además, las condiciones medioambientales son otro enemigo. A todo esto se añade la inclusión de los mormones, a través de las bandas armadas de esa secta religiosa, en guerra con el gobierno federal.

La historia está muy inspirada en hechos reales, como la tristemente célebre Masacre de Mountain Meadows y la Guerra de Utah. Creo que los mormones serán los más disgustados con la miniserie, ya que su secta y su líder, Brigham Young, no quedan muy bien retratados. Ciertamente ese hombre fue el que llevó la secta a otro nivel y creó ese estado, pero lo que ellos no dices, es que para lograrlo se derramó mucha sangre y se cometieron horrores por todas las partes implicadas, incluso por los que dicen que hablaban con Dios.

Betty Gilpen y Taylor Kitsh interpretan a Sarah e Isaac, los protagonistas de la historia, y ambos destacan con sus personajes, pero a mí me cautivó la subtrama de Abish, la mormona interpretada por Saura Lightfoot-Leon y su marido Jacob, interpretado por Dane DeHaan, aunque este último está muy perdido en la parte final. El enfrentamiento entre Jim Bridger y Brigham Young para mantener el fuerte también fue excelente. Kim Coates está genial en el papel de Young.

Si te gustan las buenas historias con escenas crueles y despiadadas, esta miniserie es imprescindible. Déjame saber tu opinión en los comentarios.

Hi everyone, just finished watching the series, it was over in 2 days hehe. An impressive series that really surprised me from start to finish. "American Primeval" is directed by Peter Berg and is from 2024.😃

The series takes us back to the Wild West and follows a group of pioneers fighting to survive in a brutal and unpredictable world. The acting is outstanding from actors like Taylor Kitsche, Betty Gilpin and Dane DeHaan to name a few. They give strong performances that bring complex and believable characters to life.

The story is well written and engaging, and it manages to keep me captivated throughout the series. The raw action scenes are particularly remarkable, and they really make you think about what life must have been like at that time. The director has done a fantastic job of creating an authentic and intense atmosphere that draws the viewer into the action. It is clear that a lot of work has been put into the production design, and the visuals are both beautiful and terrifying where they belong. The series explores themes of survival, morality, and human resilience in a way that feels both relevant and timeless. All in all, a series that is definitely worth watching with great acting, a strong story, and impressive action scenes to create a very good experience. Highly recommended! Il give this a strong 8!
