I'm here again in the #MoviesAndTVShows community! The last month of the year has started: December. And what better opportunity to talk a little bit about my favorite movies to watch during these special dates...
I don't know if you know this but December is one of my favorite times of the year. I usually enjoy watching movies that fill me with the Christmas spirit and make me believe in the magic of Christmas. So I can say that this is the time when I usually connect more with my inner child.
Well, I've been wanting to see this 1997 movie for a long time but I wanted to do it at a special time and what better time than at the beginning of December? This movie holds a very special place in my heart because it is based on true events to some extent.
The film is entirely fantasy, but the main character and some others that appear in it are based on characters that existed.
**Source** And this movie tells a happy ending for Anastasia Romanov, who years ago, after the tragedy suffered by her family, her body was still missing and there was hope that she had survived the attack. There was so much hope that the people of 20th Century Studios decided to give us a story full of hope, where love is the winner.
This movie looks like a Disney classic, but from my point of view, I dare say it's even better than the classic stories of their princesses with Prince Charming that never change and you already know what the typical ending is.
**Source** This 20th Century Studios film has a little bit of everything and I find it quite striking since we have a princess who completely forgets who she is. The first impression I had of Anastasia as a child, was that she was quite spoiled and pampered, as well as capricious, and of course, who wouldn't be if her father was the Czar of Russia and her family was ruling for around 300 years.
But well, in this film our protagonist is separated from her grandmother when escaping from the villain presented perversely: Rasputin, a character who also existed in real life and who was known for his medicinal practices with mystical abilities, becoming a confidant of the Romanov family.
But in the film he is presented as a character full of hatred and resentment towards the family, to the point of wanting to kill them all and that he would not rest until he saw each one of them 10 feet under the ground.
**Source** However, Anastasia, when separated from her grandmother accidentally hits her head and loses her memory, which makes her grow up believing she was abandoned but deep down she knew someone loved her and was looking for her.
Anastasia grows up and becomes a different woman, she goes from being a spoiled child to becoming someone with different values and purpose. And this is what I like most about the movie, they make her look like someone who gives much more importance to having and seeking the love of her own family than any luxury, priceless jewel, or endless money in the history of mankind.
**Source** Although her grandmother is extremely tired of impostors impersonating her granddaughter so many times, and this is another favorite fact of mine because it is based in reality, as there was a woman named Anna Anderson, who became famous for pretending to be Anastasia Romanov, claiming it until the day she died.
Continuing with the plot of the movie, the grandmother refuses to meet Anastasia until she gives her a little push and realizes that she is the granddaughter she has been looking for for so many years. However, the grandmother realizes that Anastasia no longer belongs to her world of luxury and has changed, so she decides to support her in whatever she decides to do with her life, as long as Anastasia is happy, her grandmother will be happy too.
**Source** And the film concludes with a little settling of scores between Rasputin and Anastasia, to free herself in full from the curse that burdened her family for so many years. She realizes that she loves Dimitri, Prince Charming so to speak, only in this case he is a footman who worked as a boy in the Romanov castle and who has nothing else to offer her but his true love and his heart.
**Source** And although the movie is different from the real events, I would like to think that in some alternate universe, this is the true story of Anastasia Romanov with its happy ending. Plus the movie has excellent visual effects that evoke a certain magic and elegance for its time. It was very special to me when I first saw it and it remains just as special for all the times I have seen it again.
Below I leave you a video explaining what happened to the Romanov family in comparison to the movie, apart from the trailer of the movie. Finally, I want to say that this film is on my list of classic movies to see again, and as you can see I liked it so much, you can imagine that the rating I give it is 9/10 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5. You can enjoy this film in Disney+ with your good ration of popcorn. I can only tell you that it's on my side:
