I recently decided to catch up with one of my favorite series and to my surprise I found that not only had two more seasons been released (season 12 and 13) but also this year Archer would end with a season 14.
Although it often goes under the radar when the best animated series in history begins to be listed, Adam Reed's creation in 2009 is one of the most interesting projects in the medium: mixing action and drama within an agency espionage with overtones of adult humor and a set of endearing characters.
However, I think it is important to recognize that despite the fact that in its long duration it has managed to maintain quality (improving even animation and rhythm), Archer began to fall into monotony in recent years, functioning as a set of gags and conflicts that, although very well done, feel a little less refreshing every time.
A couple of years ago "Archer Vice" was introduced, a fairly experimental season where the series began to play with a more anthological format, thus settling down during different periods and even taking them into space. However, eventually this idea would be abandoned, giving a quite reasonable explanation within the canon of the series, but bitterly returning to the original formula.
Ironically, I don't feel that the objective quality of each episode is affected by this, quite the contrary, the original setting was endearing and we want to return to it, but at the same time, with each passing season we have less incentive to continue watching, for this It is very welcome news that the series decides to conclude with its fourteenth season.
In Archer we follow ISIS (International Secret Intelligence Service), an espionage agency where Sterling Archer (A charismatic and skillful agent, but at the same time clumsy) is dedicated to carrying out various missions. ISIS is led by her mother Maroly Archer (played by an excellent Jessica Walter, may she rest in peace) and is made up of a palette of diverse characters that we will get to know little by little, all more or less simulating a "traditional" office experience. with a couple of chaotic additions.
Season 12 focuses extensively on the economic situation of ISIS, who are having trouble staying afloat and must take on a competitor (IIA) and improve their public image to start rising again.
On the one hand I like this premise because it ends up creating situations where each character must try to deal with the consequences of their twisted actions (Ex: Archer trying to support an environmental group even though he's clearly not interested in global warming), but most You can count these situations on your fingers and we spend most of the season involved in slightly more generic conflicts.
Despite all this, it is undeniable that Archer maintains everything that makes it a brilliant animated comedy: intelligent dialogues, an accelerated but neat editing, as well as the ability to move us and play with our expectations in the most unexpected moments.

Recientemente decidí ponerme al día con una de mis series favoritas y para mí sorpresa me topé con que no solo se habían estrenado dos temporadas más (la temporada 12 y 13) sino que aparte este año Archer concluiría con una temporada 14.
Aunque muchas veces pasa por debajo del radar cuando se empiezan a enlistar las mejores series animadas de la historia, la creación de Adam Reed en 2009 es uno de los proyectos más interesantes dentro del medio: mezclando la acción y el drama dentro de una agencia de espionaje con tintes de humor adulto y un set de personajes entrañables.
No obstante, creo que es importante reconocer que a pesar de que en su extensa duración ha sabido mantener la calidad (Mejorando incluso la animación y el ritmo), Archer empieza a caer en la monotonía desde hace algunos años, funcionando como un conjunto de gags y conflictos que si bien están muy bien hechos cada vez se sienten un poco menos refrescantes.
Hace un par de años se introducía "Archer Vice", una temporada bastante experimental en dónde la serie empezó a jugar con un formato más antológico, asentándose así durante diferentes épocas e incluso llevándolos al espacio. No obstante, eventualmente está idea se abandonaría, dando una explicación bastante razonable dentro del canon de la serie, pero retomando con amargura a la fórmula original.
Irónicamente no siento que la calidad objetiva de cada episodio se ves afectada por esto, todo lo contrario, el setting original era entrañable y deseamos volver a el, pero a la vez, con cada temporada que pasa tenemos menos incentivos para seguir viendo, por esto mismo es una grata noticia que la serie decida concluir con su catorceava temporada.
En Archer seguimos a ISIS (Servicio secreto de inteligencias internacional), una agencia de espionaje en dónde Sterling Archer (Un agente carismático y hábil, pero al mismo tiempo torpe) se dedica a realizar diversas misiones. ISIS es liderado por su madre Maroly Archer (Interpretada por una excelente Jessica Walter, que en paz descanse) y conformada por una paleta de personajes diversos a los que iremos conociendo poco a poco, todos simulando más o menos una experiencia de oficina "tradicional" con un par de añadidos caóticos.
La temporada número 12 se enfoca ampliamente en la situación económica de ISIS, quienes están teniendo problemas para mantenerse a flote y deben enfrentarse a un competidor (IIA) y mejorar su imagen pública para empezar a surgir otra vez.
Por un lado me gusta esta premisa porque termina creando situaciones en dónde cada personaje debe tratar de lidiar con las consecuencias de sus retorcidas acciones (Ej: Archer tratando de apoyar a un grupo ambientalista aunque claramente no le interesa el calentamiento global), pero la mayoría de estas situaciones se pueden contar con las manos de los dedos y pasamos la mayor parte de la temporada metidos en conflictos un poco más genéricos.
A pesar de todo esto es innegable que Archer mantiene todo aquello que la convierte en una brillante comedia animada: Diálogos inteligentes, una edición acelerada pero pulcra, así como la capacidad de conmovernos y jugar con nuestras expectativas en los momentos más inesperados.
