   ¡Hola a todos los amantes de las series de televisión! Hace poco me topé por internet con una de las tantas series con las que crecí. En esos años (por los 90), solían haber muchísimas variedad a la hora de shows televisivos, por lo que había siempre que ver y lo mejor de todo, para cada gusto. Admito que nunca he sido fanática por los temas de terror, ni en películas ni series. Me considero una persona bastante miedosa, nerviosa e impresionable, así que ese género en particular, no es de mi agrado. Aún así, eso no significa que no pueda disfrutar de una buena película o serie de terror. Cuando la historia es lo suficientemente buena, sin atentar por el impresionismo exagerado, soy capaz de sacrificarme ja ja y de una serie en específico, les vengo a hablar el día de hoy.

   
   

   Hello to all lovers of television series! I recently came across one of the many series I grew up with on the internet. In those years (around the 90s), there used to be a lot of variety when it came to television shows, so there was always something to see and best of all, for every taste. I admit that I have never been a fan of horror themes, neither in movies nor series. I consider myself a very fearful, nervous and impressionable person, so that genre in particular is not to my liking. Still, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy a good horror movie or series. When the story is good enough, without attacking the exaggerated impressionism, I am capable of sacrificing myself ha ha and about a specific series, I am here to talk to you today.

   
   

   

   
   

   Recuerdo que por las tardes, veía toda la programación habitual de series infantiles. Y a eso de las seis de la tarde (hora de Venezuela), comenzaba un show televisivo con mis hermanos que no nos perdíamos por nada. ¿Le temes a la oscuridad?, es una serie de terror/misterio en la cual, un grupo de niños, llamados La sociedad de la medianoche se reúne por las noches en un bosque y frente a una fogata, relatan diferentes historias de miedo. Cada relato es contado por turnos, por un chico diferente y es sometido a la "aprobación de la sociedad", para determinar si la historia, cumple con los requisitos de los oyentes. Del mismo modo, si un chico nuevo desea entrar a a sociedad, es traído para que cuente su historia ante los demás, al finalizar su relato y tras ser aprobado, tiene la oportunidad de unirse al grupo y de tener su turno para contar una historia nueva en reuniones siguientes.

   
   

   I remember that in the afternoons, I watched all the usual programming of children's series. And at about six in the afternoon (Venezuelan time), a television show began with my brothers that we didn't miss for nothing. Are you afraid of the dark?, is a horror/mystery series in which a group of children called The Midnight Society meets at night in a forest and in front of a campfire, they relate different horror stories. Each story is told in turn by a different boy and is subjected to "society's approval" to determine if the story meets the listeners' requirements.    Cada cuentista tiene su personalidad definida y por tanto, sus historias, tienen su toque característico. Eso es lo interesante, pues permite que las historias sean variadas, desde la que tratan sobre temas de fantasmas, misterios sin resolver, extraterrestres, hasta relatos de otras dimensión o de origen cósmicos. Eso le da a la serie un punto bastante atrayente, ya que se tratan de historias "auto conclusivas", que por lo general, inician y terminan en cada capitulo, así que puedes verlos sin una secuencia. La escritura de las historias es bastante interesante, ya que busca enganchar al lector desde el punto de vista del concepto, mucho más allá de los efectos visuales que puedan ofrecerse. Pues en los casi treinta minutos que dura cada capitulo, se obtiene una historia interesante sin los recovecos o rellenos que no llevan al final a ningún lado y que abundan en las series actuales.

   
   

   Each storyteller has their defined personality and therefore, their stories have their characteristic touch. That is what is interesting, because it allows the stories to be varied, from those dealing with ghosts, unsolved mysteries, aliens, to stories from other dimensions or cosmic origins. That gives the series a very attractive point, since they are "self-conclusive" stories, which usually start and end in each chapter, so you can see them without a sequence. The writing of the stories is quite interesting, since it seeks to hook the reader from the point of view of the concept, far beyond the visual effects that may be offered.    Otro punto a destacar es que, los protagonistas de cada historia son diferentes, lo que aporta ese sentido de "realismo" de cuentos que ocurren en cualquier parte del mundo. La serie nos ofrece bastante variedad, no sólo en el contenido de los casos narrados, sino también en los actores. En la actualidad, con el tema de la "inclusión", me pareció interesante cómo en las participaciones de la serie, ningún personaje se siente forzado y cada actuación se te ofrece como lo que debería ser "personas, sin importar su color de piel o etnia, viviendo su historia de misterio".

   Sin lugar a dudas, mis favoritos son los ambientados hacia esos temas de otras dimensiones o terror cósmico, así como aquellas historias en las que se abordan las soluciones de los misterio desde un punto de vista inesperado y hasta bizarro. Sin lugar a dudas, considero que fue y sigue siendo, una muy buena serie. Logra despertar ese sentido de escalofríos, sin tener que hacer uso de escenas vistosas que solo buscan el impresionismo, sin ofrecer más que un susto por costosos y elaborados efectos especiales. La manera en que eran manejados los guiones en esa época, me fascina. Ya no se encuentran series como estas en la actualidad, que aborden temas interesantes y misteriosos, sin salpicarlos en el proceso con el exagerado tinte de los clichés del marketing... pero, ese mis lectores, es sólo mi punto de vista je je Muchas gracias por haber leído mi publicación.    Without a doubt, my favorites are those set towards those themes of other dimensions or cosmic terror, as well as those stories in which the solutions of the mysteries are approached from an unexpected and even bizarre point of view. Without a doubt, I consider that it was, and still is, a very good series. It manages to awaken that sense of chills, without having to make use of ornate scenes that only seek impressionism, without offering more than a scare for expensive and elaborate special effects. The way scripts were handled at the time fascinated me. You don't find series like this anymore today, that deal with interesting and mysterious topics, without splashing them in the process with the exaggerated tint of marketing clichés... but, that my readers, is just my point of view hehe Many Thank you for reading my post.    Hola amigos de Hive, hace poco me encontraba leyendo publicaciones de mi interés en Hive y me encontré con una publicación de la Hiver @flormarsal sobre una de mis series de TV favoritas de los 90’s, ¿Le temes a la oscuridad?, al final de su escrito ella habla sobre una episodio que puede ser considerado como una película, pues consta de tres partes, y por supuesto ella recomienda verlo. Posiblemente yo nunca vi este episodio o no recuerdo haberlo visto, por lo que decidí verlo y compartirlo con ustedes.

   Antes de reseñarles este episodio debo ponerlos en contexto, y decirles que ¿Le temes a la oscuridad? fue una serie canadiense de los 90’s creada por D.J. MacHale y Ned Kandel, y dirigida por David Winning, en la que un grupo de niños y jóvenes, se reúnen una noche cada semana para narrar una historia de terror o fantasía, su grupo lleva por nombre “La sociedad de media noche”.

   El episodio que quiero reseñarles se llama “El Relato del Ojo de Plata” y en este episodio nuestros protagonistas son los miembros de “La sociedad de media noche” algo que en ningún otro episodio había sucedido.

   La historia empieza cuando la abuela del miembro más antiguó de “La sociedad de media noche” le entrega una carta a su nieto de parte de su abuelo, quien ha fallecido. En esta carta el abuelo pide a su nieto encontrar y destruir el Ojo de Plata, un amuleto maligno que él y sus compañeros de juventud poseyeron, compañeros que conformaron por primera vez “La sociedad de media noche” en 1936, y de la cual los chicos quedan advertidos que hubo un miembro traidor, que causó problemas con el ojo de plata.

   Nuestros amigos protagonistas con cierto temor deciden cumplir la última petición de este hombre, pues por primera vez, ellos serán los encargados de darle fin a una historia sin resolver. De manera que emprenden una aventura en búsqueda de los antiguos miembros de La sociedad de media noche, quienes poseen cada uno un fragmento de un disco de acetato que contiene las pistas para encontrar el amuleto. Los miembros de la sociedad de media noche actual se dividen para conseguir las pistas e inician su aventura.

   Como mencioné anteriormente este episodio se divide en 3 partes en las cuales se desarrollan 4 historias, estas son:

   El General

   Dos de nuestros amigos se dirigen a la casa de El General, un veterano de guerra que formó parte de La sociedad de media noche antigua, este los recibe en su casa y les advierte del peligro que representa dicho amuleto, pero que está dispuesto a colaborar con ellos si están tan decididos a encontrarlos. Extrañamente nuestros amigos se topan con un pequeño niño vestido con ropaje antiguo y un poco harapiento, quien les advierte del peligro que corren pero al mismo tiempo se ríe de ellos y les juega bromas provocándoles alucinaciones. Este niño semeja a una pequeño y travieso duendecillo.

   Finalmente nuestros amigos consiguen el fragmento del disco que buscan, pero para conseguirlo deben vencer sus temores, pues no es El General quien se los entrega, como él mismo había prometido.

   La reina de la secundaria

   Uno de nuestros protagonistas se dirige a un depósito de chatarra en búsqueda de una de las antiguos miembros de la sociedad de media noche, sin embargo, se encuentra con un hombre quien le cuenta una historia de amor sobre la mujer que busca, y se entera que lamentablemente ella falleció hace muchos años, pero este hombre conserva el fragmento del disco y para entregárselo pide a nuestro protagonista que le busque un dibujo que él hizo de su amada antes de morir, el cual se encuentra en la casa de El General. Una vez más el pequeño duendecillo juega bromas a nuestro amigo durante toda su travesía, asustándolo con un temible perro guardián.

   El magnate

   Otra chica miembro de la sociedad de media noche en búsqueda del fragmento de disco, se dirige a una dirección que lleva escrita en un papel, para su sorpresa esta dirección la lleva a descender hacia las alcantarillas, encontrándose con que el antiguo miembro a quien busca vive allí con su familia. Nuestra amiga es bienvenida, pero cuando el hombre se entera de que se encuentra en búsqueda del ojo de plata, la echa a gritos de las alcantarillas, pues fue este amuleto el que hizo que después de poseer gran riqueza, los llevara a vivir en las alcantarillas. No obstante, el chico de la familia ofrece ayudarla y le entrega el fragmento de disco, con la esperanza de dar fin a su lamentable estilo de vida. La chica posteriormente es perseguida por El General, quien ha decidido también recuperar todas las pistas para adquirir el ojo de plata. Es entonces cuando sospechan que El General es el miembro traidor de la sociedad de media noche antigua.

   El hombre del acertijo

   Dos de nuestros protagonistas se dirigen a una parque de juegos mecánicos, en el que se encuentran con un amable hombre, quien entiende inmediatamente que es lo que estos chicos buscan, pues su hermano le había advertido que un día llegarían unos chicos en búsqueda del fragmento de disco. Este hombre les suministra una papel con una pista que dejó su hermano, el papel contiene una dirección y un dibujo. Nuestros amigos se dirigen a una casa abandonada y tomando en cuenta el dibujo identifican que el fragmento se encuentra dentro de un pozo, por lo que deciden bajar a buscarlo y finalmente lo consiguen.

   El ojo de plata

   Una vez con todas las piezas del disco, lo reconstruyen y escuchan el audio, el cual les suministra 5 pistas que deben descifrar para dar con la ubicación del ojo de plata. Las pistas los llevan a un carrusel en el parque de juegos mecánicos, y pronto se reúnen todos allí. El pequeño duendecillo aparece, y también aparece El General quien les pide que tengan cuidado y que le entreguen el ojo de plata. El pequeño duendecillo incita a los jóvenes a utilizar el ojo de plata contra El General, diciéndoles que es el miembro traidor. Pero nuestros amigos poco convencidos de quien es el malo de la historia, no creen las palabras del travieso duendecillo y finalmente utilizan el amuleto contra él, desapareciéndolo y destruyendo el maligno amuleto para siempre.

   Y bien así termina “El Relato del ojo de plata”, que por supuesto me encantó de principio a fin, las aventuras de cada uno de los miembros de la sociedad de media noche se superponen entre si, pues todo sucede en un mismo momento y se nos muestra a lo largo de los 3 episodios. Es una magnifica historia, que además nos pone a pensar para tratar de descifrar por nuestra cuenta cada una de las pistas, que por separado no parecen tener ningún sentido, pero cuando son puestas juntas resulta posible descifrar.

   El pequeño duendecillo resulta un completo misterio a lo largo del episodio, pues parece un niño travieso de una era pasada, y resulta difícil vincularlo con el Ojo de Plata, ¿quién es este duendecillo, y qué busca, es bueno o malo?, son algunas de las preguntas que nos planteamos durante todo el episodio.

   Algo que me pareció muy original, son los lugares de búsqueda de los fragmentos, nos ofrecen escenarios distintos e interesantes, una mansión, un depósito de chatarra, unas alcantarillas, un parque de juegos mecánicos, el pozo de una casa abandonada, y finalmente un carrusel. La investigación de los chicos se desarrolla de manera muy fluida, al mismo tiempo que se encuentran con un ser fantástico y travieso, y con la sospecha de que alguien, posiblemente el miembro traidor de la sociedad de media noche antigua, los acecha para robarles los fragmentos, algo que genera mucho suspenso durante este episodio.

   Pero no solo eso, además se nos ofrece una historia trágica de desamor, ocurrida entre los miembros de la sociedad de media noche antigua. Es decir, este episodio simplemente lo tiene todo.

   Les recomiendo ver este episodio de 3 partes, cada parte tiene una duración de 24 min aprox. Y les prometo que les encantará si alguna vez vieron esta serie de los 90 y si nunca la vieron, también te gustará.

   Hi friends from Hive, I was recently reading posts of my interest in Hive and I came across a post by the Hiver @flormarsal about one of my favorite TV series from the 90's, Are you afraid of the dark?, at the end of her post she talks about an episode that can be considered as a movie, because it has three parts, and of course she recommends to watch it. Possibly I never watched this episode or I don't remember watching it, so I decided to watch it and share it with you.

   Before reviewing this episode I must put you in context, and tell you that Are You Afraid of the Dark? was a Canadian series of the 90's created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel, and directed by David Winning, in which a group of children and young people, meet one night each week to narrate a horror or fantasy story, their group is called "The Midnight Society".

   The episode I want to review is called "The Story of the Silver Sight" and in this episode our protagonists are the members of "The Midnight Society" something that has never happened in any other episode.

   The story begins when the grandmother of the oldest member of "The Midnight Society" gives a letter to her grandson from his grandfather, who has passed away. In this letter the grandfather asks his grandson to find and destroy the Silver Sight, an evil amulet that he and his youthful companions possessed, companions who first formed "The Midnight Society" in 1936, and of which the boys are warned that there was a traitorous member, who caused problems with the silver sight.

   Our protagonist friends having some fear decide to fulfill the last request of this man, because for the first time, they will be in charge of putting an end to an unresolved story. So they set out on an adventure in search of the former members of the Midnight Society, who each possess a fragment of an acetate disc containing the clues to find the amulet. The members of the current midnight society split up to get the clues and begin their adventure.

   As I mentioned earlier this episode is divided into 3 parts in which 4 stories unfold, these are:

   The General

   Two of our friends go to the house of The General, a war veteran who was part of The Old Midnight Society, he welcomes them in his house and warns them of the danger that the amulet represents, but that he is willing to collaborate with them if they are so determined to find them. Strangely enough, our friends meet a little boy dressed in ancient clothes and a bit ragged, who warns them of the danger they are in, but at the same time laughs at them and plays jokes on them, causing them to hallucinate. This boy resembles a mischievous little goblin.

   Finally our friends get the fragment of the disc they are looking for, but to get it they must overcome their fears, because it is not The General who delivers it to them, as he himself had promised.

   The homecoming queen

   One of our protagonists goes to a junkyard in search of one of the former members of the midnight society, however, he meets a man who tells him a love story about the woman he is looking for, and learns that unfortunately she died many years ago, but this man keeps the fragment of the disc and to give it to him he asks our protagonist to find a drawing he made of his beloved before dying, which is in the house of The General. Once again the little goblin plays pranks on our friend throughout his journey, scaring him with a fearsome guard dog.

   The Tycoon

   Another girl member of the midnight society in search of the disc fragment, goes to an address she has written on a piece of paper, to her surprise this address leads her down into the sewers, finding that the former member she is looking for lives there with his family. Our friend is welcomed, but when the man learns that she is in search of the silver sight, he shouts her out of the sewers, for it was this amulet that caused him, after possessing great wealth, to take them to live in the sewers. However, the boy of the family offers to help her and gives her the disc fragment, hoping to put an end to their pitiful lifestyle. The girl is subsequently pursued by The General, who has also decided to retrieve all the clues to acquire the silver sight. It is then that they suspect that The General is the traitorous member of the ancient midnight society.

   The riddle man

   Two of our protagonists go to an amusement park, where they meet a kind man, who immediately understands what these boys are looking for, because his brother had warned him that one day some boys would arrive in search of the disc fragment. This man supplies them with a piece of paper with a clue left by his brother, the paper contains an address and a drawing. Our friends go to an abandoned house and taking into account the drawing they identify that the fragment is inside a well, so they decide to go down to look for it and finally they get it.

   The silver sight

   Once they have all the pieces of the disc, they reconstruct it and listen to the audio, which provides them with 5 clues that they must decipher to find the location of the silver sight. The clues lead them to a carousel at the amusement park, and soon they all meet there. The little goblin appears, and so does The General who asks them to be careful and to hand over the silver sight. The little goblin incites the youngsters to use the silver sight against The General, telling them that he is the traitorous member. But our friends, unconvinced of who is the bad guy in the story, do not believe the words of the mischievous goblin and finally use the amulet against him, disappearing him and destroying the evil amulet forever.

   And so ends "The Tale of the Silver Sight", which of course I loved from beginning to end, the adventures of each of the members of the midnight society overlap each other, because everything happens at the same time and we are shown throughout the 3 episodes. It is a magnificent story, which also makes us think to try to decipher on our own each of the clues, which separately do not seem to make any sense, but when put together it is possible to decipher.

   The little goblin is a complete mystery throughout the episode, as he seems like a mischievous child from a bygone era, and it is difficult to link him to the Silver Sight, who is this goblin, and what is he looking for, is he good or evil, are some of the questions we ask ourselves throughout the episode.

   Something that I found very original, are the places where the fragments are found, we are offered different and interesting scenarios, a mansion, a junkyard, a sewer, a mechanical playground, the well of an abandoned house, and finally a carousel. The boys' investigation goes very smoothly, at the same time they encounter a fantastic and mischievous being, and the suspicion that someone, possibly the traitorous member of the old midnight society, is stalking them to steal the fragments, something that generates a lot of suspense during this episode.

   But not only that, we are also offered a tragic story of heartbreak, occurring between the members of the old midnight society. In other words, this episode just has it all.

   I recommend you to watch this 3 part episode, each part has a duration of 24 min approx. And I promise you that you will love it if you ever watched this 90's series and if you never watched it, you will love it too.
