Baz Luhrmann's epic Australia (2008) is a cinematic feast that showcases the filmmaker's technical prowess and unique ability to transport audiences to another era.

Spanning northern Australia before and during World War II, Luhrmann saturates the screen with sweeping vistas of the rugged outback countryside photographed in lush digital color. The landscape itself seems like a vibrant character.

At the center of this grand setting are powerful performances by Nicole Kidman as a British aristocrat and Hugh Jackman as a rugged cattle driver, who together propel the sweeping romance.

Luhrmann combines sweeping action scenes, such as mass cattle drives and air raids, with deeply moving melodrama that explores class, race and the legacy of colonization. No moment seems small in scale or significance.

While some dismiss it as overblown, to me Australia feels like a world-transporting adventure that combines poignant emotion with the scope of an epic blockbuster the likes of which has never been seen before or since. It is a true cinematic experience.

A technical marvel starring Kidman and Jackman, Australia is destined to be rediscovered as a prestige drama that deserves to be considered among the great canvases of cinema.

At the 2009 Academy Awards, Australia earned two nominations, for costume design and original score, which it lost.

However, it was recognized at the BAFTAs, where it won the Production Design award. Kidman took home the Golden Globe for Best Dramatic Actress. She was enthusiastically received by international festivals.

Commercially, it performed well, grossing $211 million domestically and $212 million internationally, a profit of more than $200 million against a budget of $130 million.

While some considered it too bombastic, over time it has gained more admirers for how it immerses viewers in another time and place like no other film.

Це романтична пригодницька стрічка, в якій охоплено події 1939-1942 років, час Першої світової війни. Зокрема, тут буде зображено подію бомбардування австралійського міста Дарвіна японськими військами.

За сюжетом, до Австралії приїжджає вишукана леді (Ніколь Кідман), аби домовитись зі своїм чоловіком (який тут має ферму) продати цю ферму. В перші ж миті прибуття жінки сюди вона стає свідком бійки, опиняється в геть не комфортних для неї умовах, їде з незнайомими чоловіками на ту ферму. Приїхавши на ферму виявляється, що її чоловік мертвий. З цього моменту жінка має вирішувати справи самотужки, знайомитись із місцевими, розбиратися з проблемами, які роками тут були. А це і фермерські справи, і справи особисті. Героїня змінюється з кожним випробуванням, яке постає перед нею, починає перейматися місцевим життям, прив'язується до хлопчика - метиса, який щойно втратив маму. Що відбуватиметься з героями до фіналу фільму - дивіться безпосередньо у стрічці. Буде доволі динамічно і цікаво.

Коли я почала дивитися цей фільм, я не звернула увагу, що він триває аж 2:45. Зазвичай, я не обираю до перегляду такі довгі фільми, бо не маю на них часу. Але подивившись пів фільму, я вже змушена була додивлятися до кінця. Тому зважайте на тривалість стрічки перед переглядом.

Загалом, фільм мені сподобався.

This is a romantic adventure film that covers the events of 1939-1942, the time of the First World War. In particular, the event of the bombing of the Australian city of Darwin by Japanese troops will be depicted here.

According to the plot, an elegant lady (Nicole Kidman) comes to Australia to negotiate with her husband (who owns a farm here) to sell this farm. Arriving at the farm, it turns out that her husband is dead. From this moment on, a woman has to solve matters on her own, get to know the locals, deal with problems that have existed here for years. The heroine changes with each challenge that comes before her, begins to be concerned with local life, gets attached to a boy - a half-breed, who has just lost his mother. What will happen to the heroes before the end of the film - see directly in the tape. It will be quite dynamic and interesting.

When I started watching this movie, I didn't notice that it was 2:45 long. Usually, I don't choose such long movies to watch because I don't have time for them. But after watching half the movie, I was already forced to watch to the end. Therefore, pay attention to the length of the tape before viewing.

Overall, I liked the movie.

Baz Luhrman is one of my favorite directors. I love his work. This film; however, isn't quite up to par with the rest of his work.
