    English

Hello to all the Hive Community, today I come with one of the most tender and sentimental movies ever, directed by Chris Noonan, produced by Universal Pictures based on a novel by Dick King-Smith. it is **BABE 1995.

    What is it about?

The story begins with the sale of babe for a County fair in a contest called guess the weight and the grazier Arthur Hoggett wins the contest, babe was received by two sheep dogs named Fly and Rex, When Fly's puppies were sold Babe called her mom, there he met Fernando the duck, who crowed like a rooster, to be counted and not eaten, and Fernando convinced him to enter the house and destroy the mechanical rooster that was the alarm clock that Mrs. Esme Hoggett had bought. Esme Hoggett had bought and by getting tangled up with some knitting children they woke Duchess the cat and destroyed the living room, then Babe was forbidden to join Fernando, the next day Hoggett's family arrives and he looked out the window something strange Babe had ordered the chickens according to color, then Babe calls the farmer as the sheep are being stolen, and from there Mr. Hoggrtt decides to take Babe away and orders him to take the sheep out and sees how the sheep are coming out in an orderly fashion, and is left curious, then at night Rex fights with Fly and bites the master, being tied up and sedated. From then on Babe takes care of the sheep, then Arthur decides to enter him in a contest, and well, the rest I won't tell you. I recommend it.

    Film Characters

    • JAMES CROMWELL: Plays Farmer Arthur Hoggett.

    • MAGDA SZUBANSKI: As Esme Hoggett, Arthur's wife.

    • CHRISTINE CAVANAUGH: In the voice of Babe.

    • MIRIAM MARGOLVES: In the voice of Fly a sheep dog, adopted Babe as her son.

    • HUGO WEAVING:** In the voice of Rex a sheep dog, he helped Babe win the Tournament.

    • MIRIAM FLYNN: In the voice of Ma an old sheep, she was very fond of Babe and was killed by the dogs that attacked the farm.

    • DANNY MANN: In the voice of Ferdinand the Duck who wanted to be useful so he wouldn't be eaten, he sang instead of the rooster.

    • RUSSI TAYLOR: In the voice of Mrs. Esme Hoggett's Duchess the Cat, she hated Babe and let him know that pigs were only good for human food.

    • ROSCOE LEE BROWNE: He is the Narrator of the Story.

    Personal Opinion

The movie Babe is so far the most tender movie I have ever seen, entertaining, funny, and very sentimental, for children and adults, where a duck wanted to be a rooster to not be eaten and a pig wanted to be a shepherd to not be the special dish for Christmas and he got it, we are all what we want to be, this life is full of misfortune but with dedication and discipline we can achieve goals, the part where Babe cries for his mother is really sad and when he loses **Ma, Babe teaches us that with kindness we can achieve anything we want, for example he wanted to talk to the sheep, but with anger, contempt and haughtiness he couldn't achieve anything, However with respect and kindness he got their attention, he also taught us not to be prejudiced and judge others by their appearance, as they did when FLy the sheep dog tells her little children that the masters only eat dumb animals, like sheep, ducks and chickens and now pigs. Anyway it's a beautiful movie and the ending made me cry, I wish he would have hugged Babe.

Babe - This little piggy is the cutest little sheepdog. Could he be your favourite animal in a film? (CineTV Twitter Prompt).

You know, I wonder how many people have heard of this film. It was an Australian movie, and is an oldie, going back to 1995. For people my age, we would have seen this film over and over again. It is a family favourite, and for good reason.

    A talking pig!

    • But more than that, it was a talking pig who taught us that we could be whatever or whoever we wanted to be. It was an empowering message and one that all young people need to hear.

Go figure that a pig could actually make an impact in Hollywood though, the film won:

    • Academy Award - 1996 Best Visual Effects.
    • Golden Globe - 1996 Best Motion Picture - Comedy of Musical.

Have a look at the trailer to get yourself back into a 90s mindset:

At the start of the film, Farmer Hoggett wins the piglet Babe at a country fair and is faced with the decision: What to do with the pig? The most obvious thought was 'Christmas Dinner', but Farmer Hoggett saves the piglet, by deciding he would show the pig at the fair the following year.

As a consequence of this narrow escape, Babe is taken under the proverbial wing of the mother Border Collie, Fly. She's a lovely and caring paternal figure - but these figures are limited on the farm, where social order is not questioned. The premise of the story is that Babe, a pig, wants to become a sheepdog. The sheepdogs would joke amongst themselves at the absurdity of the situation, and the talk of all the animals in the barnyard was a little bit judgemental. A pig, it was asserted, could not become a sheepdog.

Or could it? Across the course of the film, Babe talks politely to the sheep - politely requesting they comply with his requests. The sheep comply; they don't like how the dogs interact with them and demand them to move. This amicability makes Babe one of the most effect sheepdogs ever. His farmer, Farmer Hoggett even has the idea of putting Babe into a sheep herding competition - and, Babe wins. At the end of his competition run, the farmer looks down at his little porky friend, and speaks the iconic lines, 'That'll do pig, that'll do'.

Here's Babe having a chat to the sheep:

Have a look at the commentators watching over Babe's run, and as the 10s are given out, the crowd go wild. Not only is he my favourite animal (and a nostalgic one), he was clearly one of the audience's favourite too.

    Did you know? Film Facts

    • The film is full of talking animals, sometimes it is easy to overlook the fact that the humans didn't have much dialogue. Farmer Hoggett, for instance, only had 16 lines!
    • Piglets grow really quick, the film makers had to use 48 pigs over the course of the filming to maintain his size. Only 46 made it on screen though.
    • Malaysia banned this film, to avoid upsetting their Muslim population.
    • Following the release of Babe, global pork product sales dropped significantly.
